Some notes:

1. If you're viewing this and have had trouble logging in, click the link about being emailed a new password. The passwords were encrypted in the old board and the new doesn't know how to decrypt them, but it can regenerate a new one to use.

2. You'll notice a LOT of duplicate posts. I've cleaned up most of the threads on the first page of Hurricanes Discussion, but there are just too many to clean up. After talking to vBulletin's support people, manually is the only way to do it. We started out with 180,000 posts and the import managed to pretty much quadruple that with duplicate posts. Way too much to handle.

If you want to continue a thread that is all messed up with duplicated posts, just start a new thread. Pretty soon the duplicates will fall off the bottom of the page.

3. Post counts are screwed up. Most everybody lost some posts in the count. Others have reset to 0 for some reason. Good thing I don't care much about post counts. If you're anal about that and remember what your post count was, PM me and I'll set yours to that.

4. PM's may have disappeared. I know several of the more recent ones disappeared from my inbox, and it's probably the same with most everybody. I can't look at other people's inboxes, so I don't know for sure. You may have lost some. But you'll talk to those people again. ;)

5. You'll have to re-upload your avatars.

6. Any number of other little issues, I'm sure, would fit here. If anyone has any issues with anything they'd like to report, PM me and I'll see what I can do.

So, play around with it. It has quite a few more features than phpBB and it should be fun!

However, in trying to set my avatar I don't see how it can be done from the "Edit Avatar" part of the User Control Panel.

Wow...this board looks so...important! Looks great... I was a bit confused at first - it was loading on one computer at my house, while the other computer kept going to the old board - but I got that figured out...now I just have to get used to everything else!

And...I'm going to be anal and ask you to pleeeeassse fix my post count. I'm not sure what it was exactly up to on the old board, but I know it was over 700...so anywhere around there would be awesome. Thank you!!! :)

Go to User CP-> Edit Options, and go down to the bottom... you're set to Basic text editor. Choosing Enhanced will give you editing buttons, and smilies. :beer:

I think I just fixed that problem. After I changed the setting your post in there appeared.

Oh and to quickly PM someone, just click their username and then click "Send Private Message" in the drop down menu that comes up.

For the mean time, I think we'll be trying to get standard-use issues nailed down (pending approvals on posts that should go straight through for instance). Once things are back to normal, I'd love to see some of the stuff that vB has added since I last used it 7 years ago. (like the reputation stuff is intriguing).
Everyone's patience, and help in finding snafus will be most appreciated. :D

Just noticed that I have the ability to delete my own posts when I hit the "edit" button... Does this mean that when some buffalo fan calls me a monkey butt muncher, and I call him or her a pyrophillic poppycock, they can delete the post so I look like a fool? Just wondering so I can be careful.

I tried to help out by deleting all the dupe posts in the flea market but got sick of doing it.

Also it keeps saying I can't send messages because I am exceeding the private message quota. and everyone I try to send to is also exceeding the quota

I liked the horizontal better I think. It got a lot more accomplished in a smaller amount of space, plus gives more room (for less scrolling with wider pics on a page).

Also, I always used the "view new posts since last visit" button. Is there one like that here?

as far as new posts go, in the red title bar near the top of the screen, there's a link for "New Posts". That's the same as "view new posts..."

It's the way DNS operates. When her ISP's DNS servers update, she'll show up here. Some ISP's take longer than others.

Also, they switch back and forth for several hours before settling on the new one.

There's nothing anyone can do to speed up this process. It takes 24-48 hours for these things to happen and I started the process around noon yesterday.

As much as I like FireFox... all bet's are off on page oddities, as nearly everything is still written for IE... and FF just handles things differently... especially table-based stuff.

Like the new look of the board, I had looked at VBulletin when i was playing with putting a forum on my site before using PHPBB, mainly due to always using the LGC.com board and it was on PHPBB.

Looks like VB is the way to go now, the official Canes board is also switching over due to PHPBB issues from what ive been told.

Nice job on the transition, from what you've said it seemed like a nightmare that Im bet you're glad to be done with.

Looks awesome!! It will take some getting used to for me, though. The thing I've always hated most about vBulletin is the horizontal username thing. I hate having that username block there breaking up the posts when I'm reading. But, it's not so bad when you don't have everyone's signatures, too. And I trust you guys if you say the vertical username thing was worse.

I'm in FF and I have no problem with the similes list, BTW.

Oh, and I went in to empty out my PMs and noticed that in my "sent" box it had duplicated all my sent messages just like you were saying it had done with posts. Sometimes 4 or more copies! That's probably what happened to you too, Guy.

Another thing I don't like about vBulletin. After I post and I'm waaaaay down at the bottom of a page, I can't go back to viewing the forum I'm in without scrolling all the way back up to the top where the link cascade is. Know what I mean? There's a "Next Thread" and "Previous Thread" button down there but no way to go back to the entire forum. Anyway to change that?

SHC, you can use the forum jump that's at the bottom of the page.

LadyJ, the smilies are over on the right of the post box, with a [More] button that shows you the rest. It's also at the top of the post box, in a drow down menu that shows a smiley face.

If you don't see any smileys there, go into your User CP, click on "Edit Options" and go to the very bottom and change the Editor Interface to the Advanced WYSIWIG Interface.

Then you should see the smileys on the right of the post box when you go to post a message.

The new board is wonderful! I like that I don't have to keep scrolling left and right (of course, that could have been me, who knows, but it is "fixed" now!). I've actually been able to add an avatar and I've got the smilies working!:) And the board looks great!

I know this may seem a bit much, but if you get the time, could you update my posts to 21? This would be my 22nd. I know I had at least 20 on the old board and it took me FOREVER to get to there. And I was just getting rolling! Now I have to start back at #1 all over again.

If you are overwhelmed with requests, don't worry about it, but if you happen to have some time on your hands (yeah, right), it would be greatly appreciated. Sooner or later I'd like to get off the "bench"! :lol:

RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication. I use it for podcasting, but it's big for news/rapidly updated content too. What it does is allow you to set up a news reader or podcatcher (Juice is what I use) that will automatically (and you can adjust those setting) deliver content to your inbox, mp3 player, computer, etc. In the various Firefox (and I'm sure IE) extensions, there are RSS readers that will allow you to 'make sense' of the RSS feeds.

Like I mentioned--I'm not really sure on the news side (which this would be), but with podcasts, I have my catcher update every four hours for shows, then download to my player once a day.

Hahaha. Yes I had to pay for vB and we're using more bandwidth than Google. ;) There will be a link to make donations coming soon.

All the other stuff will be back too, but better. There will be a real gallery (Gallery 2.0) for IS, and my blog and all that stuff.

There will also be other features both for the site and the users in the near future.

But I think I'll take a week off of making more changes to the site. :)

I'd like to re-state that most EVERYONE NEEDS TO GO INTO THEIR PMs AND DELETE A BUNCH!! PMs got duplicated just like posts so even if you didn't have many in there before it could be full now. And everyone I've tried to PM has a full box so I can't send one. It really doesn't take long. I just emptied out my "sent" box and you can click in the little check box at the top right of each page and then hit delete and you'll get that entire page.

I think the first PM I ever sent (after the re-birth) was in there, lol. PMs to people I'd forgotten existed....and wish I hadn't been reminded, lol.

If not, that's the deal. It times you out after 5 or 10 minutes.

If you did check it, then clear your cookies and try again, usually that's the problem.

There's no way to link remotely to an image for an avatar. The only way is to increase the size here, which I'm not really wanting to do.

It indicates whether the user is currently online browsing the boards or not. Green means they are.

When you're in there, click the Forum Tools button and do the Mark This Forum Read or something like that and see if that clears it.

Well the problem is that there are no posts at all. It says: There have been no posts in the last 30 days in this forum. Try using the controls below to search for any older posts that may exist.
So I changed the settings to show the threads from the beginning and I still get nothing.

Okay, I'm getting that with the Political forums too. I thought I was a member. I keep "marking" everything "read" that I don't want to read but it still shows up with new posts :huh:

Doesn't it time you out after a certain time after posting? To prevent you from editing way down the line? That was my take anyways....it gives you like 10-15 mins? Then I don't see the edit button anymore. :) It took me awhile to get used to editing on this board that's for sure! It's Staal good!

Edited to say I lose like 5 posts a day...kinda annoying. Like I had 2,044 yesterday...hmm...Oh well! I'm gonna start a new game where I guess my new post count before I come here. Awww hehe.

Yeah, I think every night when the board indexes posts and threads, it recalculates the post counts...

And yes you have a period of time, 10 or 15 minutes, to edit a post and then that window closes.

also, anytime I post in an older thread, I always delete the dupes from the last page which may be why your post count goes down.

yep, I do the same, and some threads I even went all the way through all of it. (ie, couple of weeks ago I did the parent thread, I cut out about 600 posts total there.)

I've been doing the same. Generally when a thread with a lot of dupes comes to the top, I've been deleting all the dupes from that thread...
