This is too funny!!! Wonder if it'll play the Met? :)

Czech Hockey Champs to Be Commemorated in Opera

PRAGUE, Czech Republic (Reuters) - Jaromir Jagr (news) and Dominik Hasek (news) may not be able to hold a tune but their talent for ice hockey is about to become immortalized in song.

The Czech National Theater said on Monday it was working on an opera to commemorate the surprise gold medal victory of the Czech men's Olympic ice hockey team in Nagano in 1998.

Jiri Nekvasil, artistic director of the theater's opera productions, told Reuters preparations for the opera, with the working title Nagano, have begun.

The opening night is slated for April 8, 2004 in the Estates Theater, the same stage that Mozart premiered his masterpiece Don Giovanni in 1787.

"It is a kind of modern Czech legend and operas have always been based on legends," said Nekvasil. "We know it is an unusual motif but it is quite interesting and able to carry some kind of a musical form."

The Czechs, led by Jagr, the now-retired Hasek and more than a dozen other NHL stars, shocked the hockey world when they beat heavily favored Canada, and then arch-rivals Russia to clinch Olympic gold.

It was the first Olympic tournament where the NHL halted its operations in mid-season and allowed players to play for their countries.

The team celebrated victory in this ice hockey-mad country with about 100,000 screaming fans just a slapshot away from the theater at the ancient Old Town Square.

Yeah Moonstomper...as I was getting ready to say, first Jagr has his own album, and NOW HIS OWN OPERA? Dang. And, for those of you who don't know what the heck "Jagr Hity" is...

The funny thing about all of this? I could see stuff like an album and opera being done for Gretzky. But Jaromir "Ramblin' Gamblin' Mullet King" Jagr?

I was going to say something about Jagr's jersey being on wrong, but I wanted to see if anyone else caught it. :)

BTW, speaking of hockey players with their own albums, lookee what I found on Amazon...

Hmmm...no wonder Ronnie doesn't get enough credit, he doesn't have an album like his former teammate and fellow fifty point season record partner! Then again, as much as I like Ronnie, I'm not sure I want to hear him sing...
