View Full Version : Trade deadline.......

Theres been lots of talk about the trade deadline. I was curious to see how you all felt about moving it further away from the end of the season.

I have to agree that it would be best, I mean being able to go out and stock up on players you have no intention of keeping, just for the playoffs, kind of sucks. I mean look at how different the NHL elite teams looked before and after. The rangers went and got alot of people, granted they werent all deadline deals, but how many expect to see that same team at the start of next year, the leafs, wings, avs all did the same thing. There wouldnt be as many deadline deals because there would be more teams still in the playoff hunt and wouldnt be willing to trade their top guys. I just dont think it reflects well on the NHL to have 40 + players switch teams on one day. Thoughts?

IMHO they are deflecting where the blame should be. Let's fix this CBA, put a cap in, then we won't have the 11th hour trades we now have. Really, when 50+ players change teams in a week, what a joke!

Amen, rcf.

I have mixed feelings about the whole thing....I can see noMo's points but at the same time the rent-a-player system seems crappy to me too. I'm hoping if there is a league left after the CBA expires they will have implemented something that makes the Garbage Pail Kid card trading like thing we saw last week unnecessary.

I'm hoping if there is a league left after the CBA expires they will have implemented something that makes the Garbage Pail Kid card trading like thing we saw last week unnecessary.

I remember talking about those--was it on here awhile ago?

Yes, I've been on both sides of the trade deadline question. Happy with someone my team (either PGH or Canes) got, or devestated at who left. Either way, I ultimately want that not to happen. I want the days where a player plays with the same team all his life to have a chance to happen again. Some, like SHC's fav, Lemieux (WOOO-HOOO) have, but few do. I know free agency will still occur, but it gives this a better chance.
