Good Afternoon fellow Canes fans. I am hoping some of our long time STH can give us a heads up on the Select A Seat Event today.

Interested in knowing how the available seats looked compared to last year?

Any movement of STH from the 300 level back down behind the nets?

Did they offer cheese pizza along with the hot dogs? (wife's a vegetarian)

Any information would be most helpful! Thanks. :spin:

Just hot dogs & soda. We got great seats! Section 128, Row D. I saw 2 people fighting over seats...pretty funny. There were sooo many seats available!

Wow JaroFan - you are waaaayyyyy down on the glass. Weren't you in 113 last season? I think you were pretty low there too.

Fighting over seats? Care to elaborate? :D

Yeah, we were 3rd row in 113 but decided to shell out the $5 more dollars to see them attack twice. Plus Stormy can get very annoying!

A husband & wife were sitting in seats & some other woman came and just said "i'm taking these". The couple said they were sitting there and the woman said "well you haven't bought yet". Some poor old man security guard had to go get someone. When we left there were 2 ticket reps down with them. I'll be interested to see who ended up getting them!

That's what I am talking about! Free Hot Dogs and watching fans fight over seats, priceless.

Fourth row in 128 is sweet.

Thanks for the update. :smoke:

We got seats 1-4 and 9-11 on row A in section 304. Last year we had the 1-4 seats and then 2 seats in section 302. We moved the two seats in 302 to 304 and added a seat. So that's 7 of 12 seats in the row!

Anyone else get the impression that the video that was shown to us was filmed well before the draft? JR mentioned the draft in the past sense but limited it to that we had a great day there, I would've thought he definitely would have mentioned some players by name had the video actually been filmed since the draft, which would be a bit unreasonable I suppose since the draft was only days ago and they had to put on those little things with their names. I just got the impression for some reason that video was filmed back in April.

What time did you guys go? Our time was 5 P.M. yesterday.

And to answer Ramhorn's question, I didn't see any cheese pizza and none was mentioned....perhaps if you asked they would dig up some but I doubt it. Sorry.

Hey ours was 5 too! Where were you sitting during the video? We were right side, 2nd row. I had on a blue shirt.

I was on the far left side, 3rd row, wearing a white shirt and tie (with music notes on it) and dress pants as I had just gotten off work. My father was in the row behind me wearing dress clothes but no tie and I was sitting next to a guy that works at the same place I do (Employment Security Commission) who was wearing a striped shirt. So...did you see any of us?

And I'm 20 years old if that helps at all.

Doesn't really ring a bell. Did you end up looking for seats upstairs? Then you probably saw the woman who asked the question about how she was looking for seats but they hadn't given theirs up yet and the guy told her that her seats weren't tagged (she would have been in front of you). Well she was one of the ones who was fighting over the lower level seats.

Yep, she was in the row right in front of me. That was the woman who the guy that was running the thing asked her to repeat her question. I wasn't really sure what she was talking about myself. I figured it was settled though from the way they left it there. Hehe, figures there was argument. I just ate the hot dog for dinner tonight by the way with some mustard. I had saved it in my refrigerator. It was exceptional.

Hey guys..I was there at 5 with my sister....we looked around but decided to stay in the same seats...113, Row Q, 1 & 2.....I did go and sit in Section 106 and daydream about having those season tickets!! :D

Everyone working there was so excited about the new season..the girls giving out the hotdogs and drinks were saying that this year, the Canes will be awesome...we were all excited talking about it! :spin: Can't wait!

Cool Mona! You have great seats. We were in 113/Q on the opposite end from your seats season before last (and for all playoff games) and really liked them (as you know we were further back this past season). I think those lower corner seats are great - and on that corner you can see the Canes bench really well too.

Can't wait to see the schedule!

We got our seats tonight! Section 332, row A, seats 9-12. Right in front of the glass! Can't wait for the season to start!

All in all, things went much smoother this year than last year. The four of us ended up in two different places because they wouldn't give out more than two seats in the wheelchair accessible section. They must have dropped that provision this year, cause no make a fuss. And we didn't have any problems at the box office either! Unlike last year when they insisted the seats we'd picked didn't exist!!

I'm hoping this is all a good omen for this years season. Last year's fiasco getting our tickets certainly turned into an omen for this past season!!

I went the select a seat event tonight and picked seats for next season.

I ended up selecting seats in section 324 E 12 and 13. I was debating between those and 304 D 18 and 19.

The Seats in 324, although a row higher, are across from the benches and a bit more centered so I went that route.

What a difference a year makes! Last season when I attended the event, I really had to search for seats. Most of 324, 325, 326, 304, 305,306 was taken last year. This year other than the first row or 2 everything was open.

I looked in the lower level, while eating my hot dog :) , and looked over the seats there as well. The sideline premier sections and the first say 6-8 rows were full, but everything else was open.

Finishing 30th in the league was great for the draft (happy to get staal :) )
but I don't think it helps sell tickets.

Overall, a walked away very happy. Got much better seats, ate 2 hot dogs and realized hockey season is only 13 weeks away. ;)

The Deck area isn't considered sideline premier - it's LL North. And LL North has always had lots of seats available it seems. That's where all the Leafs fans ended up during last year's playoffs  - all sitting behind me  .

So true Eileen....in 113 the ENEMY is everywhere... and I noticed all seats on our row were still available except our two....I wanted to move down about 5 or 6 rows in the same end seats but there were none available...

Hope I didn't confuse you.

The sideline premier section were pretty full. The rest of the lower bowl, other than sideline premier sections, only the first 6 or so rows were full.

I left the arena at about 6:45 so most everyone had finished picking seats.

Another thing cool about this year, compared to last year, was in the event you found 3 open seats, you could pick 2 and leave 1 open.

All of the staff went out of their way to answer any questions. After the Stanley Cup run, I felt like I was "running with the bulls" to get seats. This year was very laid back. :smoke:

JOR........I don't think I realized that you sat that close to me. I am in 111 D-1,2 or 3 depending on who in my little family/friend group is there. If my brother is there, I will not be on the aisle! I'd rather sit on the steps than listen to him complain about leg room :p those center ice sections would be a dream, wouldn't they? I do like my seats so I'll just be content with them

We will have to say hello this season... :spin: Speaking of leg room, I would like to have the row right behind the first 4 or 5 rows in our end zone...lots of space between you and the railings..of course they were all taken....an idea for your brother in the future....to keep him quiet!! :D ;)

those rows with all the leg room are great. season before last we sat in 108 and my brother's seat was in the front row on the aisle. it was perfect for him. then they put up the nets and we moved. at least when he's on the aisle, it's kind of OK, but still........... He is 6'4" so I can see his point, I just don't want to hear it every game ;)

we'll definitely have to catch up for hellos. maybe once practice starts, we can have a LGC practice and give folks a chance to meet if they haven't already.

Nothing of substance, but there was this article on the News14 website:

Hurricanes let fans select-a-seat
6/25/2003 10:42 AM
By: News 14 Carolina Staff

Some hockey fans are already looking forward to next season. The Carolina Hurricanes hosted a Select-a-Seat Open House Tuesday.

Fans interested in buying a full season ticket package had the opportunity to choose their seats and check out the view of the ice. Die hard fans like Colin Wahl said the trip was worth it.

"I couldn't resist the opportunity to get seasons tickets here at a gorgeous facility,” Wahl said. “It's 15 minutes from my home, with a great team that's going to have an amazing year next year so all the ingredients were in place."

Hurricanes season tickets cost the same as last season. The prices range from $750 for the least expensive, all the way up to over $3,000 for center ice seats.

Our letter came too! We are picking at 5:30 on the 29th. Since we're upgrading from a 9-pack this is our first time - can anyone answer some questions?

1. About how many people are in each group?
2. For those of you full STHs - did there seem to be any mezzanine seats left? Or am I fooling myself?
3. Is the premier parking worthwhile for someone who usually gets there right before the game?

Thanks for any insight.

Got my letter on Saturday and we are picking on the 29th at 6:30 PM It cannot get here fast enough. I am of the opinion that I am going to try and get as close to the same seats as possible. 1. seems like it's usually around 40'ish.. though I've never counted.
2. not a full STH (yet)
3. if you get there late, it might be... though from what shell told me was included in our letter about the parking passes.... it'd have to be REALLY worth it to you. I think it worked out to be a few dollars MORE per game paying in advance. I hope I mis-heard her, but I don't think I did.

I went to a late STH session since my friend is a first time holder. #2) We were there on June 24 at 6:30 and there were plenty of mezzanine seats left. #3) Last year (24-plan) and this year there were about 60 people in my group. There are two options I believe. One is to just prepay your parking for regular/general - you save $1 per game. The other is Premier parking which I believe is $13/game (I could be wrong on the exact amount).

At least that's my undersanding. :)

Thanks, that must've been it :) I could see paying for parking in advance (to save a buck a game)... but wouldn't be paying $13/game. then again, we're people that show up a couple of hours before the game and park in the same spot all year (every year), hanging with the same people, etc..
so having good parking doesn't help us. hehe

Yes, it's the seperated row in the upper level which cost about twice what the next row does. About half of the mezzanine looked available when I was there - in the area where we (usually) sit...Section 328

We're in Row C seats 11 & 12. They put up a railing in front of my seat (11) and we're working with Jason Karmanos to see if it can be shortened so I can see over it. I'm really short and it's directly in my line of sight unless I lean over almost double and put my chin on it. My husband, section328crazy is 6'7" so he needs to keep his seat (12) because it has a lot of leg room. Besides, we love our seat mates so much we wouldn't dream of moving elsewhere.

This is just a question out of curiousity - I'm not a attending a select-a-seat event. Shell I know you and Guy already have seats - do you "give them up" in order to have a new selection, or can you keep those seats and just see what else might be available?

since we're 24 pack holders, we are not guaranteed our same seats. I wish we were, because we're missing our first volleyball games of the season and love where we were last season but we have to go and select new ones. Eileen not to be a butinsky, but we went to select a seat just to take a look...if you want to keep your old seats, you do nothing. But if you want new seats, you just tell one of the customer service folks and they do a new form. Then you take it to the box office.... your current seats are not shown as available until you make up your mind...hope that helps! :spin:

Eileen not to be a butinsky, but we went to select a seat just to take a look...if you want to keep your old seats, you do nothing. But if you want new seats, you just tell one of the customer service folks and they do a new form. Then you take it to the box office.... your current seats are not shown as available until you make up your mind...hope that helps! :spin:

Of course you're not a butinsky - I was going to ask you next! :D Thanks!

bad news Mona, did you hear John is leaving?? also for a basketball team (at least I think the Cavaliers are basketball). He was at the box when we finalized our seats (had to move up a row from last year, from C to D)

I know how happy you have been with him, as soon as he told us Guyute said "Oh, Mona will be pissed!"
I think the only reason he told us is because we requested him as our rep for next years since ours is leaving for the Orlando Magic and he said no. The guy we got seems very nice though.. has emailed a couple of times to say he really loves hockey and to email him anytime just to shoot the poop.

Haven't met him no... but I've fired a couple of emails to him, and we've bs'd. he's good friends with Buzz (probably why he got to take over some of the good customers, like us. -ahem-. lol)... and classified himself as a hockey junkie. seems like a good guy.

Great....a hockey junkie is good!! :spin: I sent John an email this morning. Hopefully I will hear back from him and he will let me know who his replacement will be. Thanks!

So can we twist the recent departure of Buzz and John into some back-assward compliment to the Canes sales staff and ticket selling/buying success? I mean maybe those other pro orgs said "shoot - their ticket sales went up while they plummeted to the bottom of the league - they must be good".

In any event, it's better than last summer, when reps got kicked to the curb. :p

I dunno, maybe. I tried getting into it, but he didn't want to. don't blame him...

but I asked if this is a continuing phenominon in this org that we can expect to see more of... he just gave us an "eh, it's just part of the biz"...
something to it though... arguably the two best reps they had have gone to NBA clubs in the last month.

I got a call from John thanking me for my email. He said he is heading to Cleveland to work for the Cavs and apparently he is from that area cause he said that he and his wife are happy to be closer to family. He said that in the next week, they will be dividing up accounts and he would mention to his replacement about my request for GROUP tickets.. :spin:

What a nice fella..I will miss him!! He also said he would definitely be watching the Canes still and he thought we were going to have a really great year!! :D

Unfortunately, I'm gonna have to trust my dad to get good seats.

just got the following from our rep.. figured I'd pass it along:

I just wanted to drop a quick line to remind everyone that our open house is tonight from 7:30pm until 9:00pm. If you are looking to add on seats or if you have yet to select your seats, this is a great time to come out and see the best seats still available. This is something that is open to everyone if you have friends or neighbors who may be interested. Even if you don't want to look at seats and you just want to come say hello and get some free food, feel free. Thanks, and I hope everyone is having a great summer.

Best Regards,

Doug Warf

Wooo Hoooo! I pretty much got the seats I wanted! Yay! And as we were walking into the arena we met coach Mo coming out. My husband engaged him in some fascinating conversation. He looked right at him and said "Hey Coach!" to which he replied "How you doin'?"

Went to Select-A-Seat tonight and I am VERY pleased with where we will be sitting. But my main reason for posting, other than the rush of comraderie I feel at this moment even though I have parted with $$$, was the comment made by Canes management tonight-- following the amateurish videotape with JR, one of the ticket guys (mid-age, average height, chunky guy, dark hair, glasses) stated that the Canes felt pretty strongly that Markov would be signed this season. Did any one else hear this? Was this said at any of the other preceeding nights?

When I went back in June, they told us the same thing.

Great story Angie....did he look relaxed??

Mr. SHC (I'll have trouble calling him dboon) totally has the knack. I remember seemingly shooting the bull with Forslund at the airport that night. I remember over-hearing something he said that was quite clever and gave Forslund a chuckle (wish I could remember what it was).

So SHC, was that the extent of your chat with Mo?

Yeah, that was it. I was completely joking about it being fascinating. I just hid my face.

The bags under Mo's eyes were much better but he still looked pretty tired to me. But I guess he would after last season, huh?

[quote=nccanes] The bags under Mo's eyes were much better but he still looked pretty tired to me...

I think it's a family thing. Mo's kid skated in class with my son early this summer. Cute kid, but he's got Mo's eyes, I mean bags. Wallin and Wesley had kids in the class also. They'd show up on occassion, doing the family thing. Of coarse they draw some attention. I always felt weird talking them, like I was butting in on family time, but they were cool about it.

Coach Mo usually skated with the kids while he was there.
