Looks like WRDU finally called in quits today... I woundered with the switch in format at 100.7 that it must have been in direct competition with WRDU.

yep-i was going to the game Friday night/afternoon and kept hearing rdu/106 play "Rooster' from Alice in Chains and was like 'wtf'. I thought something was broken/stuck until I was talking to a friend who said they went country-called 100.7 the rooster(thus the song). now, all the rock stations are classic-what about current rock? guess we are outta luck. I would love to get XM radio but me getting to work in 10 minutes I don't see it's worth the 12.95 monthly price tag. I would love to listen to NHL radio though...

Worse than the format change is the loss of the "Bob and Tom" show...I really hope another local station picks them up. I just can't stomach John Boy and Billy.

Commercial radio sucks.
And it's glaring when you have satellite radio.;) I don't know how we've survived without it all this time.

This past week my oldies station (93.1) changed to country too. What the heck...I can pick up at least 4 other country stations & now have no oldies to listen to. What's a girl to do?

You know... you can listen to the radio in other places than just your car. :p

 That was about the summary of my reaction as well. Good stations are slim pickins now. :| The only station that plays anything interesting is 88.1, but since its a college station, what you get from hour to hour can be very different.

Poor Bob the Blade. Poor RDU. A station that was once truly great has now been put out of its misery. Anyone who ever listened to RDU raise money for the Food Bank by playing Alice's Restaurant on Thanksgiving morning will be a little bit sad at this news.

What a shame. It was one of the very few radio stations worth listening too.
Though as I look at it, 100.7's last 10 list online right now has Bad Company, Steve Miller, Kansas, Rolling Stones on it...not bad, but why couldn't they have stuck with more recent poppy 80s and 90s music like I thought they were destined for? Not a bad station but Classic Rock is still its own niche.
There's still 92.3 from the Triad (usually comes in well for me here) and 103.9/103.5 (can't remember which one) which is a rock/classic rock station from Fayetteville, not wholly unlike 96.1 is trying to be.
I think I'll stick to just CDs now, though...

Commercial radio sucks.
Yeah. One of the last rock radios here in São Paulo turned onto almost 100% hip-hop radio.
I hope Allen didn't listened it...

WRDU has consistently had the worst ratings in the Triangle and the Bob and Tom Show had terrible ratings as well. With 96 Rock changing its format to include some classic rock, RDU's death as a rock station was accelerated. It was going to happen regardless.

I like the format change at 96 Rock. It's a little heavy on the Hair Metal, but that's better than hearing Nickelback-, Shinedown-, and Staind-like songs 30 times a day.

Um, North Carolina? The south? Hello!! ;)
Nickelback-, Shinedown-, and Staind-like songs 30 times a day.
UGH!!! The only thing worse than that is perhaps 105.1 playing nothing but crunk and Pukeycat Dolls. HORRIBLE.
