Andrew Ladd placed on injured reserve
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE—Oct. 15, 2006
RALEIGH, NC—Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager for the 2006 Stanley Cup champion Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that forwards Keith Aucoin and Ryan Bayda have been recalled on an emergency basis from Albany of the American Hockey League. Left wing Andrew Ladd has been placed on injured reserve after suffering an upper-body injury in Carolina’s 4-3 win at Atlanta on Friday.
Aucoin, 27, ranks tied for first among Albany skaters with two goals and one assist (3 points) in the team’s three games this season. The Waltham, Mass., native made his NHL debut in 2005-06, earning one assist in seven games with the Hurricanes. Aucoin (5’9”, 187 lbs.) ranked 10th in the AHL last season with 85 points in 72 games with Lowell, Carolina’s former AHL affiliate.
Bayda, 25, has played in just one of Albany’s three games and has not recorded a point this season. The Saskatoon, Sask., native re-signed with the Hurricanes after playing the 2005-06 season with Manitoba of the AHL. Last season, after returning from a knee injury, Bayda scored 13 goals and added 25 assists (38 points) in 59 games with Manitoba. In 69 career NHL games, all with Carolina, Bayda has scored seven goals and earned 13 assists (20 points).
The Carolina Hurricanes will take on the Tampa Bay Lightning on Monday at St. Pete Times Forum (7 p.m., Versus, Hurricanes Radio Network). After games next weekend at Buffalo and the NY Islanders, the Hurricanes will return to the RBC Center on Oct. 25 to host the Atlanta Thrashers. Tickets for the Oct. 25 game and all Hurricanes home games in October and November are available at the RBC Center box office, all TicketMaster locations, by calling 919-834-4000 or via www.CarolinaHurricanes.com. While it's not good that we have all these injuries so early in the season, it's great to see these two guys get called up.

Bayda's definitely been on a roller coaster from "Yeah! You made the big team!" to "Oh, sorry, back down you go!"

They'll bring some more energy.

Must say I'm surprised it was Aucoin and Bayda rather than Bayda and Willis or Isbister.

^I'm a bit surprised by that, too.

But, JR knows what he wants, and he's seen the guys more than I, that's for sure.

I'm glad Bayda's getting his chance! Ladd getting put on injured reserve a little while is no fun certainly, and I'm surprised by Aucoin getting thrown in the mix...but good luck to them! :)

Aucoin got 2 of the 3 goals last night in Albany. Guess that's the reason.

May be trades in the works so somebody may want to see how someone plays in the NHL. Aucion has shown some scoring ability in the AHL! Hmm...

I think we need forwards since we've only got 10 healthy with Ladd and Letowski out.

It seems that Aucoin has made a pretty good impression so far in the AHL, I'm sure they would like to see how that can hold up in the NHL as well and give the guy a shot now that we need players

Our beloved Ziggy only had 7 points in 57 games...Aucoin's on pace to beat that!

have to admit CL - your question awhile back about how to distinguish Gove from Aucoin has come in handy for me. 'Tater picker got the call this time. (although he doesn't look as bad w/o the big playoff sideburns)

Is anybody else starting to get worried about Ladd's injuries? I know he's young and hasn't been around long enough for a real pattern to emerge, but he needs to stay on the ice.

I notice that Ladd's always injury prone.

maybe it's because of the way he plays, but he's had some injuries each of the last 3 seasons -- i'd say you could describe him as injury-prone at this point.

I notice that Ladd's always injury prone.

That's cause hes a scrappy player. He might be young, but he's also always in the mix, being physical and hurting. Plus its a contact sport, and if you do all that hitting your bound to hurt something.
