Now that's what I'm talkin' about! Great for Ronnie. I love seeing players who retire from hockey, going to work for their OrganEYEzation that they had glory with, drafted them, or loved them.

A bright spot after a bad game. woo.

Definitely glad to hear that he's (officially) coming back to the organization. I figured he'd eventually miss the big boys :D

I had to laugh at ^. Hubs and I (both born and raised right here in Raleigh) always make a comment about that pronunciation.

Great to see Ronnie in the front office. I also thought he was a classy person.

always make a comment about that pronouciation.

Well... Canada is a different country. They might look like us and eat the same kind of food, but they do have their own speech patterns, and spellings that go back closer to the Queen's English than American English.

I always laugh whe Ron uses "y'all!" It's a sign he's truly adopted NC as home!

You know something, though? On my recent trip to Toronto. I had to ask for directions a couple times, and I found myself just naturally saying DYE-rections. I even prounced "been" as "bean," once!! :eek2: And that was by accident!

I just know it's because of listening to all the Canadians on XM radio!

Oh, I love to hear the Canadians talk. In fact, I'm fascinated by their accents. Sorry, I wasn't making fun, just commenting.

I just never really noticed the subtle differences until I started listening to XM. I mean-- everybody picks up on "about" being different, but hadn't noticed the other things.

And I'm a HUGE fan of "Kids in the Hall." You'd think I would have noticed watching those crazy guys!

It's funny...I love to listen to other accents. During the Fair I did a radio interview in New Zealand and I could have listened to the host talk all day. After the interview was over he said he enjoyed my Southern accent. I might have an ever-so-slight (that sounds like a Tripp-ism!) tinge on some words, but I'm not from the South and in no way have a Southern accent like the natives do. I just thought that was the funniest thing

Great for Ronnie! Great for us! :)

Quick question, is this a new role in the organ-eye-zation, or did he replace someone else?

I think the last person to have a position like this (or close to this) was Jeff Daniels between the time he retired and when Mo was fired and he was hired as an Asst Coach.

As long as he doesn't bring the 2002-2003 luck back with him.

No way did Brendan Morrow walk by you last night! He's in Dallas (or wherever Dallas is getting ready to play:lol: ) Brendan would be Guy's son-in-law, and he signed that nice deal with Dallas and unseated Modano as Capt. didn't he??? and maybe you confused Guy's dude, and former team mate, Kirk Muller with his son in law, Brendan??? ;)

For whatever reason, it amuses me to hear JR say Calgary.

Ronnie's own fault. Something about wanting to spend time with his family.
The Canes offered him a front office job before he even officially announced his retirement.

Now he can be a even more advanced mentor of the team. Young players like Gleason and Bayda will need his help.

Why is there negativity here- 'fault'? 'too late'? What's so bad about wanting to spend time with your family after a 20 year career?

I seem to recall Ronnie wanted to figure out what he wanted to do in post hockey player life; I'm glad that Ronnie took the whole thing seriously, wanted to make sure he was willing to commit to the workload involved, and get back to the day to day stuff, than just be some figurehead who didn't care; and the whole Cup thing- yeah he missed out with the Canes, but he did get his name on with PIT, and I don't know about anyone else, but I'm not thinking we're one hit wonders, and I'm pretty sure RF is feeling that way too and wants to be a contributor to that.

Oh yeah, I'll say it again. yeah, and great for RF to come back into the fold.

*pours ice water on SoCal's head* Get it together woman!! JK!

I thought it was serious too, when I first read it. I was like er...then somehow Toast came into my head, and I was like "ok people can be sarcastic sometimes..." LOL!

This is so great! I have the most wonderful memories of Ronnie. He was the very first Cane I really liked. It was that magical goal in Game 1 of the 2002 SC Finals I think that got the ball rolling (or the puck sliding, whatever LOL) for my love of the Canes. He just epitomizes greatness!

Great to see him back with the team, YAY! He belongs with the Canes! :D

Yup, sorry. Sarcasm doesn't show well on a message board. Guess I should have used a different word or a smilie.

But I did want to convey that it wasn't like the Canes had just now decided to offer him a position or had been snubbing him to this point. It's been there all along just waiting until Ron was good and ready to move to the next stage of his life. Absolutely good on him that he first took some time with his family, which as I understand it, included taking time to be involved with his kids' hockey teams.

And BTW, he won't be working with Gleason, but could with Bayda since he's back in Albany. His job is to work with the prospects in the AHL, ECHL, juniors, college, etc. The job of working with the guys at the NHL level belongs to Lavi, Kevin and Jeff.

Someone did raise an interesting question though. What might have happened had Ronnie been in this role last year and he'd had the opportunity to sit down with Jack Johnson and his family?

A little late to this, but I wanted to join in the mini-celebration of Ronnie being back among the Canes ranks. Needless to say, the news, upon reading it, made this nut's day yesterday. Especially as someone who has really wanted to see Mr. Francis take on a consultant/developmental job for sometime.

The best of luck and times to ya, numero diez.

He would have convinced him to play for Toronto? Sorry, couldn't help myself..*L*

Nice to see The Franchise take a job with the home team.

Now what would Ron Francis have against the kid that he'd torture him like that?

Or does Ronnie have a secret plan afoot to resurrect the Canes in TO? Did he mastermind the acquistion of Maurice, O'Neill and Battaglia? If the 2002 Canes could reach the Stanley Cup Finals, can he recreate that and finally deliver Toronto to the promised land for the first time since there were more than just 5 other teams to worry about? Interesting plan...
