good article on free agents. It explains the different groups of free agency and compensation as well. they are not optimistic about any big money free agents this year.

That explains it! :spin:
This will get very interesting after tomorrow...I can't wait to see where some of the big name$ like Hatcher go...or if they hold out.
Clarke noted that he was recently offered a player who would "floor" the media if they knew he was on the block.
Hmmm...Who's the untouchable man in Philly?.....
In other words, if a team were to offer $5 million a year to restricted free agent J.S. Giguere next week and the Mighty Ducks did not match within seven days, Anaheim would receive five first-round draft picks as compensation.
Darn! That is a lot of compensation... I didn't realize that much was at stake for making an offer to a Group II player. Wouldn't that mean that if we had in fact signed Federov, we would have given up 5 first round picks? Yikes!

Edited to clarify... I was referring to the offer we made to Federov a few years back when he was restricted. Detroit matched the offer.

I think Fedorov is unrestricted as of July1 and free to sign with whoever comes up with the $$$ he thinks he deserves........if there is that much money in the world

I'm curious too.. however, the only thing we know is that the player is Not on Philly.. unless Bobby is calling himself trying to make deals ;) (which you never know with that man!)

Ha! Guess I read it wrong... :D
How many players in this league are absolutely untouchable? Francis and Lemieux...and not many more.
