What the heck, figured she deserved her own thread.

There's a nice article about her in the North Raleigh News section of the News and Observer today.

http://www.newsobserver.com/1253/story/514049.html

Says she's got "O, Canada" memorized. Woo hoo. I might have to buy tix for this one after all, lol.

For those that missed it, here's the video of her performance

http://www.newsobserver.com/1338/story/513506.html

SoCal will love this:

Watching the clock count down before her performance in her Carolina Hurricanes jersey, black pants and her signature pink boots, Katherine said she was a little nervous.

Wow. I hadn't heard her before watching that video. She nailed it! I would love to hear her sing 'O Canada', but I can't make it to that game. She seems to have a very bright future.

Funny story....during today's game, there was an RBC Center commercial advertising Christina Aguilera. LTD Jr. looks at his dad and says "Daddy, is that Holly Wilver singing?"

Mr. S said, "does she sing or just strip?"

After experiencing Katherine sing for the first time, I have this to say:

Holly Wilver: YOU'RE FIRED!!!!!!

I'm gonna go ahead and be the bad guy...

I thought she wasn't nearly as good as the first time. She messed up "thee" in the Canadian national anthem and got something caught in her throat or something at one point. Definitely more nervous doing the Canadian anthem. It happens. There's no denying she's an absolutely wonderfully gifted singer, but honestly, the random booming words, while impressive to say the least, just seemed "all over the place".

I guess what I'm saying is, amazing talent, but you can tell she's still just 8 years old. ;)

I'll agree with that.

Still, rather have her than The Wilv, though. Especially for O' Canada.

I'd certainly like to see her get a second chance with "O, Canada". It's clear she was totally nervous and I know she could do it really well.

My wife always has us watching American Idol and one of the words they use is "affected". That's the impression I got last night. She seemed to be trying a lot harder, especially for our national anthem, and it wasn't necessary. Like someone had told her she needed to pick it up more (thus the random booming words).

Katherine has performed remarkably! Hopefully folks are not looking for perfection from an 8 year old. Part of Katherine's charm is that she is an 8 year old girl just having some fun!

The girl is very good. And right now she is 2-0. I say bring her back every home game.

She needed a metronome badly. Her tempo was all over the place. On the plus side, to my untrained ear, she only missed 3 notes total.

While we shouldn't look for perfection from an 8 year old, let's cut Holly some slack, too. She's a engineering student, not a professional singer.

I'm not a professional singer and I could do a much better job that Wilv. Though I haven't gotten to hear Katherine live yet, anything would be better than being subjected to the Wilv again.

I also love the idea of bringing in a kid instead of a girl who looks better than she sings. My $0.02.

thank god for that! i'd hate to hear we pay her to sing.

Your wasting your time defending Holly here Andy. Most of this crowd would have hung her from the highest tree if they could have after the first time she sang last year.

That's what we get when there is so little to criticize on the ice. Holly just had poor timing.

(but for what it's worth, I think I'd keep Holly if we could get Tony Gilliam back as the PA guy )

I think she put a little bit of fear in Holly; the Wilv was better tonight than she's been in a long time.

Yea! I'll be there...I thought she did great! Her ability to hit the notes and have such good tone at her age in unbelievable. Even though she sings in a key that I can't join her in...I enjoyed it throroughly!

She's also got my future "rock star - hockey - ice princess" daughter convinced she's only got 3.5 years to go before she can sing the "hockey song" (Nat'l anthem) and O' Canada at a game! Way to go!

I can say a good thing about Holly...she sings in the key I can sing and totally drown her out! LOL! - I'd venture to say that no one in the 15 seats in front or on either side of me has heard Hiolly when I'm at a game! If you can't beat them - join them!

Maybe the Canes org paid for singing lessons or a metronom...
