And your prayers (or however else you "send the message across") are needed.

My sister is battling a little known disease or disorder called RSD.

What is RSD?

Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy Syndrome (RSD) - also known as Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) - is a chronic neurological syndrome characterized by:

severe burning pain
pathological changes in bone and skin
excessive sweating
tissue swelling
extreme sensitivity to touchToday, she went in for the last in her series of nerve blocks for this to hopefully help numb her pain and basically stopped breathing while under anesthesia and had to be resuscitated. When her breathing still did not return to normal she was sent to the ER. They believe she also had a stroke today and on the last phone call I've received from my mother, well she's now regained her feeling in the right side of her body and her lips are no longer drooping but....she has extreme pain in her head (combined with the pain she has in her right arm), her speech is slurring and she's now lost her vision.

While my sister and I have never been real close, never been really good friends, I've never wanted her to experience anything like what she's experiencing now. I'm very very scared that I'm going to lose her and I know her daughter and my mother are very scared also. We are truly the only people who care about her at this moment. While my father says he's praying for her, I wonder (I'm not on good terms with him either and its been hard for me to call him and let him know what's going on with his other daughter).

So, all I'm asking is for some prayers, or whatever it is you do to get thru things like this. I'm somewhat in a shock right now, not knowing what to do or what will happen and its hard when your whole family is in Florida and you are so far away from everything that is happening.

And if you want more information on RSD go to: http://www.rsds.org/index2.html and/or http://www.rsdhope.org/

Also, to find out what a day in my sister's life is like please read: http://www.rsdhope.org/Showpage.asp?PAGE_ID=1&PGCT_ID=2953 It's not a pretty picture, believe me, I've seen it.

Thank you all!

Oh no. :( I hate hearing this stuff, it happens to the best people. It was so nice meeting you (if only briefly) when I was down there, you're so sweet, and I'm so sorry to hear this.

She, you and your family are definitely going to be in me and my family's thoughts and prayers, girl! :(

So sorry to hear about your sister's troubles CHC. God bless her, I hope everything works out, I can't imagine what a scare that must have been. I lived away from my family for a while, and I know it has to be hard on you being so far away especially during times like this. And, if you can muster it, I do hope you can talk to your father. Good luck and god bless.

CHC, I work for an attorney who handled a case for a woman who had RSD/CRPS and I have a teeny ifrs of how difficult your sister's life is, based on what our client's life was like. (Her case was related to the RSD/CRPS because it was a result of an injury she suffered at a store.) Of course, I can't begin to imagine what it's really like to be in that much pain all the time.

My thoughts and prayers go out to her, you and your family.

Oh dear - I'm so sorry. I hope the good signs continue chc.

I've had numerous friends and family have bad news health stories lately and it's very scary and depressing.

Some of you young LGCers (well, not TOO young) need to start having babies and give us all a reason to smile. :)

Big hugs, chc.

So sorry to hear about your sister. :( The wife of a former co-worker of mine had RSD. It's not someone I would wish on anyone.

OMG. I just saw this, how awful. I hope CHC got to Florida ok, Lots of good thoughts to you and your family CHC, especially your sister.

Having experienced my own health crisis a couple years ago, though nothing even close to this, I wish your sister the best with lots of prayers in there too.

I'm SO SO SO sorry. My twin sister and I deal with a chronic pain/autoimmune disorder ourselves on a daily basis, and I can't tell you how sorry I am about your own sister. That's horrible and frustrating. You have our deepest sympathies. :( We'll say a prayer for you both.

I've found a library right down the road from the hospital my sister is currently at and thought I would come here and thank you all!!!!

In the end, she didn't need surgery but they still don't understand what is going on in her head. She had another MRI yesterday and an EEG today but we seem to be missing the Doctors when they come around. There is some bleeding in her brain and right now they are giving her some antibiotics, anti-seizure meds and something to get the swelling to go down. Her vision has returned although she can't focus for too long. And she doesn't remember the previous days. Hopefully we will find out soon what is going on.

Again, thank you all for the well wishes and the prayers. It must be working :D

Asking for those blessings and prayers from you guys again for my sis...whew...I wonder if eventually I will use them up

I'm trying to stay positive here but she just recently went in for her checkup and possible bad news...the doctor found lumps in both her breasts  We just found out last week that our Aunt in CA had surgery on her breasts and now my sis gets hit with this. I declare, if it weren't for "health" bad luck, my sis would have no luck at all. She goes in for a mammogram and ultrasound tomorrow so we won't know for sure anything for awhile but this worked last time so, here I go again.

DAMMIT...SHE'S ONLY 32!!

CHC, I only read this thread today. I want to say how sorry I am that your poor sister is having to go through all this. I presume your sister recovered from her terrible episode a few weeks ago? Her vision is okay, and she recovered from the stroke-like symptoms? Sending many good thoughts out for your sister!
