He definitely doesn't seem to care for the Eastern Conference much judging from this quote. "Sorry, but Eastern Conference teams don't count when it comes to discussions about actually winning the Cup instead of just competing for it."

I don't care for this part of the article though...

"But Burke knows the law of the playoffs ... and why his teams haven't gone very far in them. Sure, the Canucks are better than that TRENDY 2002 EASTERN PRETENDER, the Carolina Hurricanes, but the they simply don't have the top-to-bottom intangible that recent history deems necessary to win a championship. "

I really hope the Canes can bounce back next season and prove these guys wrong. Prove to them that they won't wind up at the bottom of the league next season.

Okay, Rob Parent is now officially on my VERY long list of "Annoying ESPN Psedo-Sportswriters Who Think They're Hot Stuff But Really Couldn't Know Less About What They're Talking About."

Sure, the Canucks are better than that TRENDY 2002 EASTERN PRETENDER, the Carolina Hurricanes,

All I have to say to people who make comments like that is look in the rafters at the North end of the RBC Center. The banner hanging there says "2001-2002 Eastern Conference CHAMPIONS ".

And there isn't a damn thing they can do to take that away from us. :p :p :p :p

 Ok. Looks like I will have to make a side trip into Bristol tomorrow when I take my jet-skate trek up to Montreal. If only my jet-powered skates could register frequent miles...I'd have millions from all my "revenge trips" to Bristol alone.

Yeah, really... i seem to have missed the part where the Hurricanes became trendy as well.

No sweat in this article... i've grown immune to ESPN anti-Cane sentiments. Hell, ESPN is an anti-Cane sentiment.

I agree with you noMo. ESPN is pretty much anti-hockey in general too. Now with them having the NBA.

They remind me of how MTV is anti-music (since they never play any music)

(sighs) Yeah...it's always going to hurt ESPN to see the very team that is the reason for their being do so well. Obviously, they've never heard a ditty by the Eagles called "Get Over It"...

For those of you not in the know, ESPN was supposedly formed to cover the Whalers and their games. The Whalers used to give ESPN free tickets and other such goodies...at least in the eighties and early nineties anyway. It wouldn't surprise me if they stopped doing that due to budget concerns and/or ESPN starting to not give a whale's tail about them. Honestly though, if ESPN had any sense of sports history like they claim they do with ESPN Classic, they would have shown the Whalers more respect than they did in their final years in Hartford, along with showing hockey more respect than they do now. As I said somewhat above, if it weren't for the Whalers, we supposedly wouldn't have ESPN...

Now, now... i must jump up and defend MTV. Look right there... in the top right corner... tilt your head a bit to the left... squint your eyes a bit... you squinting?... good, see that blur right there? That's almost music!

What... you missed it? Cripes, dude... you weren't supposed to blink...

if it weren't for the Whalers, we supposedly wouldn't have ESPN...

And that's the shame of it all. People seem to lose their sense of history, eh? I can also remember Hockey Digest proclaiming the Whalers as one of their semi-finalists for the Cup and when they lost to Quebec in the playoffs, they published an article claiming that they had predicted the loss. ESPN lacks focus, and these comments are nothing new for this franchise. The only way, I thought, to change their minds was to do it on the ice. But I guess a Stanley Cup run doesn't amount to anything anymore.
