View Full Version : Anyone else have a problem with "SHOW ME THE MONEY" audio clip at the RBC Center?

I was catching highlights from last year and was reminded how much I disliked them blasting that "SHOW ME THE MONEY" audio clip at the RBC Center during hockey games.

Just a personal dislike I guess... but it's an anti-team statement that has nothing to do with hockey. I don't lose sleep over it, but I think it sounds rediculious at Hurricanes hockey games.

Do they still play this often? I've been to a few games this year, but it doesn't stand out to me. Please tell me they've killed that clip!

Anyone?

I second that...I hated hearing that clip when the players were raising the silver. I thought it was kinda tacky and a little disrespectful as well.

I find it extremely annoying when watching the clips. In fact, sometimes it's startling! I must admit I never associated it with lack of teamness or anything more intellectual than "shut the hell up."

I don't like it either.

I also don't care for the Tarzan yell, but little boys probably like it, so it can stay.

I generally think there is too much non-game related noise, and it is sometimes so loud out of the speakers that you can't really hear each other to talk about the game unless the puck is in play. I noticed several people around me started wearing ear plugs last year, and I started bringing them myself. It's not the cheering or crowd noise that gets to me; it's the PA volume with **** that has nothing to do with the game, especially during the playoffs.

I hate everything not game-related (or team related) at the games so, obviously I'd be no fan. But, I seriously don't ever even remember hearing them play it until Cuba Gooding was in the building for the Finals. Did they do it during the regular season? I'm super good at blocking stuff out so I could have missed it but, Mr SHC doesn't remember it before then either.

I only noticed that Show me the Money mess when they kept playing it during Game 7 and then flashing Cuba Gooding Jr. on the J-Tron. That annoyed me, because it was like quit showing him, it's not about him. I'm sure they were glad to have some celebs in the building, but knock it off.

That was the only time I ever noticed it, and I try to ignore alot of the surrounding noise that's in the building, especially the incessant chatter about things that have nothing to do with hockey,(such and such's kid's football/basketball/cheerleading etc. phone calls to people letting them know "I'm at the game!" ) or people who talk about players/ask about players who no longer play for the team (i.e Irbe, Malik and such) I think I'm seriously going to go the way of Mr. Socal, and bring my earbuds and listen to Chuck's play by play in the arena, lesser of two evils. Unlike SHC, I have no ability to block anything out. plus for some unknown reason, I always get the loudest of the loud mouths.

I only noticed it on the replays after the fact. I don't even remember hearing it on the night. Like SHC, I can block out most of what goes on off the ice. I remember seeing Cuba Gooding Jr. at some point, but whether it was during or after the game or on video replays is the real question;)

I remember the overkill the night of Game 7 during the post game as it unfolded. I was shocked they did it when Cam rec'd the Conn Smythe - it's horrible...tacky....completely awful imo. I noticed that one in particular at the moment, but it's far more grating that it's forever included in any video footage that includes audio. Didn't they dub over it during the highlight section of the DVD though?

I never minded it before because it was used sparingly, but it was OVERKILL that night for sure. I hope it's been retired at this point.

I also can't stand that they show exactly ONE replay of opposing team's goals on the JT and then a litany of movie clips. I get the movie clips "entertain" and I'm not completely opposed, but I could stand a couple of replays before (or after) they show the goal a few times.

But honestly? I think the staff is so thin for Canesvision and ch.com that my expectations are basically non-existent. They can't even spell our own players names correctly (Canesvision) and they can't get game times correct on the website (the last 2 games have been wrong on the main page the entire week).

They did overdub that crap on the DVD....and I know because I just got done watching it...needed a nice cleansing cry, I guess. :D

I saw Cuba Gooding during the game...cause he sat about 4 rows in front of me, lol.

The replays of opposing goals, do then even always show one? Other than during intermission, anyway? I get SO annoyed having to see Martin Lawrence have a temper tantrum rather than a stinkin' replay.

You know, I called the RBC today to make reservations for The Arena Club for Friday night and even the woman taking my reservation told me Friday's game started at 7pm. Even the website got that one right (though I did confirm that with NHL.com before believing it, lol). I almost corrected her but decided it wasn't worth it.

I agree with most of you but I like the song, just not at hockey games. It has nothing to do with the game. But I dont think I've heard it at a game this year.

AMEN! It sickened me to have them blast that thing when he was getting the Conn Smythe. Horrible! It upsets me still.

Also, they played it more than once when we're setting up for the faceoff at with 1:17 to go in the 3rd of Game 7... just before we get the empty netter. I love the empty netter so I grit my teeth through the two (that's right, not once but twice) times they played it just before and right during the faceoff.

Regarding Cuba Gooding Jr....

http://blogs.rockymountainnews.com/denver/fashion/archives/stanley3.JPG

He was just there for the Bud Light.

What kills me about the "Show Me the Money" crap is if that was played at a college sports tournament final, we'd probably never hear the end of it from the media and/or fans about how tacky that is, like we should. But, because it's a professional sports event, it's ok to play such a clip as the team is being given the "bling" they won/earned!

Obviously, the CanesVision crew (what little there is) has never seen Jerry McGuire and/or Arli$$.

some of you have spent way more time thinking about this than I have. I just found it annoying. I didn't find it to be a message or a deliberate act to disrupt the proceedings or anything else other than an overused phrase from a movie.

I find it hard to believe there would be much chatter about it no matter where it was used, at least in the sports world. if it was played in church or during a funeral (it may actually be what someone is thinking at a funeral, but screaming it out may be just over the border of tacky:lol: ), maybe it would warrant angst. at a sporting event, it's just a phrase.

I'm sure they've seen the movie - they just inserted what they thought was funny. And they were wrong.

It's hard to be critical about anything related to June 19th - which is why I'm sure it's taken this long for all of us to chime in. I'm sure the CanesVision guys had good intentions and were a bit out of their minds at that moment. Doesn't make me like it at all, but I guess I can understand. They've proven dumb judgement before when they projected their own humor (involving a coworker) and the "Mexi-cam" thing.

At the time, I didn't think anything could be tackier than when Red Wing fans were chanting "whoops, there it is.....whoops, there it is" when the handlers brought the Cup out for presentation after game 5 in 2002.

But then again, maybe I was just pissed at the world at that particular point in time...

I didn't even notice it, until I watched the recording of the game when I got home...... and for some reason, I thought Cuba had found a mike or something. It just made me chuckle, and I forgot about it.

That's the one, and only game I ever heard it (and only from the recording), and I don't remember hearing it in the arena at all.

It's just nonsense to me. Like TC, I'm like -- what? it's an issue?... um... okay....

I'm not sure if I would classify it as an "issue", I simply asked "Do they still play this often?"
