Nashville Predators Executive Vice President/General Manager David Poile announced today that the club has acquired a third-round selection in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft from the Colorado Avalanche for defenseman Karlis Skrastins.

Karlis has been a good pro and solid contributor for the Nashville Predators, said Poile. With our emphasis on rebuilding the defense, weve decided to go with our younger prospects in a move that we think will make us better in the long-term.

Skrastins, 28 (7/9/74), posted three goals and 10 assists (3g-10a-13pts) in 82 games with Nashville this past season. The Riga, Latvia native recorded 13 goals and 41 assists (13g-41a-54pts) in 307 games with the Predators over the last five seasons.

Colorado has so much depth in all positions (except goalie- I'd love for them to give Irbe a good home :spin: ) that it would seem unlikely, you're right Mikus. Seems like a move for depth more than it is for getting an NHL player, unless one of their veterans like Foote is going to unexpectedly retire.
