Hi all!

I thought some of you would like to know that our part-time 8 year old anthem singer has been selected to participate in the CBS Early Show's "Living Room Live, Kid's Edition". During Tuesday morning's show, (2/6) they should show a brief excerpt of Katherine singing the anthem (along with two competitor's videos) and then list them on their site for viewing and voting. The voting is shut off on Thursday at noon.

I'll have updated information on my blog (http://www.canescountry.com/blog) as it is available and post it here as well. The website for the voting is here. Living Room Live (http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/12/03/earlyshow/series/main2223619.shtml)

Her video isn't supposed to be listed online until Tuesday morning after the show. Go Katherine!

I'll vote for her, however I still say that she needs to speed it up a bit when she's singing at Canes game.

The novelty of her amazing voice at 8 years old has worn off on me. Let's get her singing it correctly... I'm tired of falling asleep standing up while she's belting out the tune.

OK, I'll help keep it bumped :D

I was wishing they'd have used video from her singing it at the Canes game, but I suppose that wouldn't have worked with the "Living Room Live" theme, ey?

grrrr.... sorry again, I was right the first time. Voting shut off on Thursday at noon and winner announced Friday.

FYI, she'll be singing the anthem at the RBC again on the 13th against LA. :) Would be great to see the streak go to 5-0!

I have no idea how this contest works as far as determining an ultimate winner, but Katherine won this round with over 70% of the vote.

Wow! Never underestimate the appeal of a little kid with a big voice, cause those other two were REALLY good too!

So far, 3 out of 21 kids featured on that segment have been local, and the first one, Madeline Edwards (11 y.o. opera singer from Goldsboro) has already won 2 rounds !

I never saw any of the videos until this morning (I'm off today), so I only saw those 5-10 second snippets. The others WERE very good.

But if the others haven't been singing in front of 18,000 fans who are pleased with the 4-0 outcomes - they are at a disadvantage - talent aside. ;)

Got this via a CASL (soccer) email communication.

Katherine Fritsch: KK (our CASL Under 8 player) will perform again next week on the CBS Morning News and voting will occur through Thursday on the CBS web site as Katherine has moved on to another round.

I know this is not 100% Hurricanes related, but I figure it would not hurt anyone. Please read this email from Katherine's Dad.

Katherine Fritsch is now entering her second round of the CBS News Early Show Living Room Live Talent Contest. This round is referred to as "Finalist Round 3" on the CBS News Early Show Website (see below). Katherine would never have made it to the second round without your votes! This round will be much harder.

Voting for Katherine in the Finalist Round 3 will take place Monday February 26 through Noon on Wednesday February 28. The winner will be announced on the Early Show Thursday morning.

You can vote for Katherine by going to the CBS News Early Show website, click on Living Room Live Kids Edition, scroll down the left hand side of the page (sample below) and you will see the three contestants, click on the button (preferably beside Katherine) and click submit. Typically a "thank you for voting" box will pop up right after you vote. It is my understanding that you can vote again each time you visit the website.

Thank you all once again for your enthusiastic support of Katherine!
Tom

Katherine received more than 59 percent of online votes cast by viewers of the morning show. If she wins the finals against two other children next week, she will be flown to New York to sing the national anthem live on "The Early Show."

Her father, Tom Fritsch, said much of the credit for Katherine's success goes to support drummed up by local e-mail rings and Web site postings, including the site for the Carolina Hurricanes. Katherine has been singing the national anthem (and, depending on the Canes' opponent, the Canadian national anthem) at RBC Center hockey games since last fall.

Keep voting guys! She's winning!!!!!! :D :D :D

Aww. Katherine lost in the final round. The G'boro girl won.

Goldsboro girl wins 'Early Show' contest

An 11-year-old opera singer from Goldsboro will travel to New York next week to sing on the CBS "Early Show" as the winner of a kids' talent contest that included two North Carolinians among the three finalists.

"The Early Show" announced this morning that Madeline Edwards, a pupil at Eastern Wayne Middle School, won with 41 percent of viewers' votes in the show's "Living Room ... Live! Kids' Edition" contest.

Madeline's winning video segment, submitted by her family, had her singing Gianni Schicchi's soprano aria "O Mio Babbino Caro."

She is scheduled to appear on the TV show Tuesday.

The other contestants in the finals were 8-year-old Katherine Fritsch, a second grader at St. Timothy's School in Raleigh who regularly sings "The Star Spangled Banner" at Carolina Hurricanes games in Raleigh; and Crooked X, an adolescent hard rock band from Coweta, Okla.
