Yeah, I posted a similar poll to this at the trade deadline. So sue me!

Since teams traditionally have one A from the defense and the other from the forewards when having a foreward as captain, the Alternate should come from the defense. The obvious choice is Hedi...he is the bona-fide leader of the defense and a great role-model for the team. The veteran, level-headed leadership provided by him places him far above other d-men. A case could be made for Sean Hill, but Hedican seems like the better choice as far as level-headedness (how do I put this right? Hill takes too many stupid penalties! Though his leadership qualities are superb, and he generally sets a great example as far as hard-nosed play, how is getting 141 PIM, many of which are the result of stupid play during a fit of anger, setting a good example for our young guys? What kind of picture would it paint for our Alternate Captain to get these kind of hothead, though spirited, penalties? Then again, his vocal and physical leadership might just be what we need for our Alternate C.)

I also think O made a great Alternate in the last month of the season. Darkhorse is Jeff Daniels, who wore the A for one (1) game last season. (http://turbulence.20megsfree.com/images/alternate_daniels2.jpg) He's a great leader but he doesn't get into every game, which makes it less likely that he'd be considered. I'd also hope that this new free agent d-man we're supposed to be getting will be captain-quality. And if we get Ray Whitney (C with Columbus) or Magnus Arvedson as a LW free agent, either of them are obviously great choices.

Unless something odd happens, Brindy shall definitely remain the Canes' forward alternate captain. I have to be boring and go with Heddy being the defensive alternate captain. Though, Hilly has potential to be that second alternate captain too...despite all the penalty minutes he can rack up, Hilly can be a good leader. But, I'm willing to bet that Heddy will be the next AC.

Yea, Brindy will definately wear a letter on his sweater as long as he's a Cane....He'll wear the C after Ronnie retires.

Why is it that goalies can't be captains again?

I think they are going to continue to alternate it. I mean really, when was the last time you saw Paul Maurice make a definite decision? ;)

Seriously though, why not alternate it? Not necessarily nightly but maybe monthly or something. Aren't there a couple other teams that do this....or am I imagining things?

If they do just pick one I'm thinking Hedican will probably be it. And then after Ronnie retires O'Neill will probably get Brindy's A....if he doesn't bail on us.

Yep, a couple of other teams alternate the A's, as well as the C, Minnesota being the only one I can think of at the moment.
I guess alternating would be ok, but I always think consistancy and having things set in concrete is good. Then again, it is just a little letter on the crest of a jersey...but it does mean alot. Call me crazy...but I'm a consistancy-freak.

Too bad we don't have future-captain anymore...our problems would be solved.

Now the question is....Bret or Wes?

Both are worthy, Wes has experience wearing the A for this team...but Bret had it last...

It'll go back to Wes.

Just like I said about Brindy, unless something odd happens, Wes will definitely be an alternate captain since he was one before he left the Canes.

Not so cut and dry as many think. Remember---he was contemplating signing with another team...

Give it to Mr. Yamaguchi

Well, I want to go on record as saying that yesterday, I cast my vote for Hedican. . . . . . but after today, I'd sure like to see that "A" back on Wes' chest!!

The same goes for me...............uh, I always thought that Glen would re-sign here and just waited until he did before I voted, but otherwise.................. what Canesluver said!

I'd like to see Wes get his “A” back. The letter “A” for Alternate that is, please don't read anything dirty into the first line.

Glen was traded, he looked around and he made the right decision.

I think Hedican is also deserving, but only one Dman should get it and I vote for Wes.

Maybe we should give it Hill so he could stay out of the penalty box for mouthing at refs.

Never stopped him after Wes left!
