This is not good news...
Carolina Hurricanes wing Erik Cole could miss as much as four weeks after tearing a muscle during pregame warm-ups Tuesday night, coach Peter Laviolette said today.
Laviolette said the tear was in the same area as the hip pointer that Cole suffered last month but was not sure whether the two are related.

Well, if we are still in the playoff picture 4 weeks from now - then Cole could give us that motivation and umph to finish on a high note.
But honestly - I'm just not sure we'll be in the picture even a week from now and don't know if we've got enough to fight our way back into the picture.
I also wonder if 4 weeks is enough time to heal an injury like this.

Laviolette was just on the Power Play with the doofus' Tatti & Green on XM- talking about it, he seemed resigned to it, but "cautiously optomistic" that it'll be 2 weeks instead of 4.
Brad Richards had a similar thing last season and he didn't jump right into it- but then again he wound up having hernia surgery too.
Laviolette seemed so calm and chipper in the interview even with all the commentary from those two on the 'state of the team'.
EDIT: I just re-read this release- Laviolette divulged what the torn muscle was in the interview with Tatti & Green; he said "he tore his oblique muscle in warm ups" so how is the oblique 'close to the area of the hip pointer?'

Guess a call to Albany is in order. Wonder if Bayda is coming back or if we will see someone new. I wouldn't mind seeng what Willis has to offer.
Get well Erik, we need you more than you know.

I did a quick google search and it looks like the oblique muscle is around the lower stomach area which would be above the hip if I am not mistaken (which I probably am)
Looks like Bayda will be on his way back to Raleigh.

^you're not mistaken...easiest explanation is that your obliques are on the sides of your abs... right?!? lol (can't think that far back into my health classes in high school)

Yes, the obliques- are the six portion of the elusive (elusive for me and my lame 4 pack, lol) "6pack" in your abs.

He's been practicing the last two days and has not been wearing a blue jersey so I think we'll see him back on the ice tomorrow night.

Well, back in the day they could have used 2 hockey sticks and rubbed those together, but now that they are using freakin flexible composite space shuttle material, that won't work.
