You think a dog is bad, try a cat sometime.
Our Franco (bless him) used to let some serious SBDs fly, back in the day.

This animal (Miss Fargo the wonder Rottie) is by far, the nastiest gassiest dog on the planet. I love her dearly, but I think the lack of a tail just amplifies things. She poots very loudly and then gazes with wonder at her rear as if to say: Did I do that?

Our GSD/Lab mix is good for one or two SBDs a week, usually during a third period with about 5 minutes to go. The DVR pause feature comes in very handy at those times.

Thank god my cat doesn't do this.
OT, but the author of the farting dog book, William Kotzwinkle, has another book everyone should read called The Bear Went Over the Mountain. It's not a kid's book.

This thread has made me LOL.
Is it a daily thing or can you nail it down to certain foods? I had a dachshund -- who slept with my parents -- who could wake them up after some pasta. =.)

QueenMerry, that is a pretty Rottie!! I had a Rottie puppy once. Died of Parvo at 12 weeks. :( I was so heartbroken. (and he had his shots).
Now I have a beautiful RED LAB. No one believes he is a pure lab because of his color. Yellow labs can be anything from Cream color to Fox Red. He is a 10 month old monster ;) 80 lbs already. I hope he stays about that weight. I adore him. SO SWEET!
BUT HE STILL STINKS UP THE PLACE!! and he SHEDS like crazy!
So everyone hear about the dog food that is killing dogs?? I hear it's all kinds of food but it's wet food and we never give our dog wet food. Just dry food and veggies :D

Not sure about dog food.. but friskies in a can almost killed my cats.. took a couple of emergency surgeries to save him and he has only been able to eat Science Diet for the last 12 years because of it. Friskies is Horrible for male cats. It causes crystals to form in their urinary tract which blocks them from going to the bathroom and then the waste backs up in their system and poisons them. Magnesium is the culprit.
and that really is an adorable rottie!!

kermelbar, I have not been able to nail it down. Seems like all foods do it to him.....(dry foods)....
he does get milk bones for snacks.....maybe that is what's been the common denominator.

Changing food will do it to them too. consistency is key! :)

Thanks guys. That was one of those rare camera moments when she wasn't trying to lick or pounce on me. :) Here's what she looks like after she lets loose a really bad SBD. ;)

...I think she's part hyena in this one...hehe!
I wish I could offer some advice, Debs. Have you called your vet's office? Sometimes they can offer simple fixes. I just suffered through the gas attacks. My dog Sheba, man. No lie -- she was a room clearer. I had a bunch of the boys over one night and we were hanging out in the living room and then, suddenly, eruption. Everyone FLED. Imagine me, LadyJ, three or four huge guys flying out of the house, coughing, eyes watering. Scott said, "Meg, I think your dog has actually been dead for years and you just don't know it yet..."

Does he eat a lot of rawhide? They're known as "rawhide farts" in my household! There is a definite cause and effect, though the dogs do poot occassionally no matter what. My male dog tends to do the "What was that noise?!" audible farts mentioned above. I figure it's just part of that male mystique. :D My female dog is the SBD room-clearer. I like to give the dogs a good neck scruff scratch followed by a hearty pat-pat-pat on their sides... which sometimes leads to poot-poot-poot!

Also -- buy the most expensive brand you can afford. The higher quality dog foods (or any pet food, really) have more food value in their product, which means there's a lot less "filler." The dogs poop less, because their body uses most of the food (i.e. less waste)... and less pooping = less gas.
And defintely-- pick one brand, and stick to it. You're doing your pet a disservice if you're just always buying what's on sale. Animals' digestive systems don't need variety, and they really don't get bored with what they eat--unlike people! :D

Hey guys - I normally don't post a lot, but this thread is a riot! I have a bull terrier with outrageous gas. I went to the Petsmart and they have a product called STINK STOPPER. :D I'm serious. I thought about getting it to try, but didn't. I love to hear feedback from someone who has tried this product. Just a little FYI.

try canned pumpkin(in the fruit aisle with the canned apples for baking-usually bottom row). got lots of fiber in it and may help your little furry one get claned out and the stinky air to go with it!
