Anyone watching? We watched the first of three episodes on last night with Izzy (had some explaining to do with animals eating each other, but otherwise she was glued with some very insightful comments).
I don't have HD, but it's s'psed to be AMAZING in HD.

It IS amazing in HD. Just like actually being there. Hubs is totally addicted to the Discovery HD channel.

I saw it come on last night as I was about to go to bed. It is fantastic in HD. (both National Geo HD and Discovery HD are two of the most amazing channels on tv).
I set it to record and look forward to watching more.
Speaking of National Geo HD, they're also running a 3part show in similar fashion... but on the Galapagos. Insanely cool. Makes me glad we pay Dish so much money and get the NGHD channel. heh

edit: I only watched the 1st hour of the 3 on Galapagos, but that site has quite a video intro... I now want to run home for the other 2hrs. lol

I've watched two of the three Galapagos shows ... stunning as well. But i think the "Planet Earth" series is something people will look back on for years and say how amazing a piece of work it is.

I only watched like 20 mins or so of PE last night, I'll definitely make sure to give it a thorough watching when they hit the dvr :)
edit: Cory, that could be true.. maybe why they have a bunch of them on dvd for sale. hehe. http://shopping.discovery.com/category-1_DVDBOOK/3_DVDBK_SHOW_PLANETEARTH-27985.html?jzid=40588065-2-0
oh, and there are HD DVD and Blu-Ray DVD versions available on amazon. I'll definitely hold out until I have a player. Be a great series to have.

Yeah, saw that ...
The first episode opened up with how they spent five years making it, using cameras never before used for nature filming (with one camera, they could be a mile away and capture things they otherwise couldn't, with another they were able to film on the rainforest floor where it's so dark b/c of all the plantlife, yet capture perfect images as if it were day ... the birds of paradise were amazing).

I think that is what I was watching and got hooked on way too late last night.. it was the first time they had every captured a snow leopard hunting on film.

We watched the Pole to Pole and the Mountain one, and it was amazing! I don't think I could let Jackson watch the animals attacking each other, but the rest he would love!

That was it ... verrry cool. They also taped a panda with its baby in the wild for the first time.

I watched some of the first one last night, before we switched to something else. Cole was a bit confused about the wolf chasing the caribou. hehe. But otherwise enjoyed it. The birds of paradise were very cool, never seen that "face" before. :)

Oh yeah, baby! It rocks on Discovery HD. The Great Plains ep had night vision footage of lions hunting an elephant. Disturbing, but fascinating.
I love this series. It should win all kinds of awards. The making-of segments at the end of each episode are fascinating, too.
ETA: You should also checkout "Sunrise Earth" on Discovery HD. I saw it for the first time last Wednesday night. Wait, maybe it was the Science Channel? I'm losing track of all my new channels.

I watched Sunrise Earth for the first time last night... saw a Vermont sunrise with hot air balloons.
Honestly, I may be a bit spoiled with Planet Earth... but S.E. was horribly boring for me. I might leave something like that on as a "screensaver" while I was running cd's during a party or something... but sit and watch it for an hour? not me. (SE is also Discovery, btw)

FYI, for anyone who didn't get to see this the first time it aired, I just happened to realize they're showing them again. This weekend and the next two weekends they'll be airing them. If you haven't seem them, and especially if you have HD, you really, really should.
