I've heard it maybe so? I think thats a heck of a deal. We would have a great defense with him, Wesley and Markov plus the guys we allready have. But I don't see us getting him and Markov. Although I don't think your Dfense can ever be to good even though I know alot of caniacs think we need better offense I think we have guys that can put the puck in the net if they can keep it out of our own zone.
But just to try and add some credibilty, I done some checking out and it seems that he is on the trading block from dallas. Dallas is apparently wanting to dump alot of sallary at all costs so this could be a liley price for him.

It would be a steal for sure...which would ordinarily lead me to believe that he comes at too low of a price-but the Stars are trying to get rid of some salary.
We were mentioned to try to trade for him if the Markov trade fell through...if we can ink him and Markov we'll have a much improved d-corps. I only hope Wesley wasn't the only FA signing...

Matvichuk ready to fill friend's role
By News Wire Services
July 7, 2003
Two emotions tugged at Dallas Stars defenseman Richard Matvichuk on Thursday.
Matvichuk the teammate was crushed to see Derian Hatcher sign with the rival Detroit Red Wings.
Matvichuk the friend was thrilled to see Hatcher sign a once-in-a-lifetime five-year, $30 million contract.
"Well, we have been together and best friends for the last 12 years," Matvichuk said while vacationing in Canada. "So I am delighted for him. But if we played our lives out, we'd play together forever. It doesn't work that way."
Without the benefit of signing another Hatcher, the Stars plan to move on to Plan B.
Specifically, that plan includes Matvichuk filling a large portion of Hatcher's role. Though Matvichuk is coming off the worst season of his career, he views this as an opportunity to restore his reputation as a player mentioned in the same breath as Hatcher.
"I want to have a major role in this organization," said Matvichuk, who in 68 games last season finished with one goal, six points and a plus-one rating.
"It slipped away last year. I want to get back to where I should be. I have one year before I am a free agent, so I am thinking this is the most important year of my career."
The comforting aspect to this is that Matvichuk has assumed this role before. He thrived in it. Two seasons ago, he was regarded as one of the top physical defenders in the NHL and enjoyed a much better season than Hatcher.
"This is going to be a challenge for Richard and our staff," Stars general manager Doug Armstrong said. "There is 30 minutes of ice time that someone will have to fill."

I just posted for a different perspective.. I have no idea which is right. Kind of like JR saying he isn't trading anyone before a big trade.
