Bobby Hull was in Asheville today with a group of people with the WHA 2 who are trying to bring a hockey team here. It was pretty neat to get to talk to him and get his autograph. He's a funny guy. Hubby joked about how Brett kept us from winning the Cup last year....
Oh well, there were actually a lot of Canes fans there who lived in Asheville. It is so awesome to see that there a bunch of hockey fans here who would travel miles like us to see our Canes.
Just thought you guys would be interested.... :)

Did you get any idea of how likely Asheville is to get a team?
Mountain hockey. That would be interesting...

Asheville did have a UHL franchise - the Asheville Smoke. I don't know when they went defunct but they were doing pretty well..like 2 points out of first place? I hope they can bring a team there again. At least to call poor Irbegirl down until she can get her Canes fix. ;)

They are definitely getting a team. It's just not for sure whether it will be from the WHA 2 league or the ACHL. Believe me, the ACHL didn't present their plan that well, so I pretty much think the WHA 2 deal is going to win out. Either way, i am pretty excited about it. :D
I believe the name of the team will be the Asheville Aces. I got this from a quote in the Asheville Citizen Times, so it must be pretty accurate. I'll keep you posted on it though, captain! :)
We'll have to have an lgc get-to-gether in the mountains soon! (nah-i wouldn't put you guys and gals through the long 4 1/2 hour drive... )

And oh how I will need my Canes fix come October! :D Hope I can get tickets for us opening night...
Yes, the smoke (despite holding a great record) went bankrupt. I honestly think there was some poor management to blame because there are plenty of hockey fans to fill those seats...
I miss you guys though, skits... It's not the same as our little lgc group...I need an lgc fix too before i whither up into nothing ;)

The Smoke hasn't been defunct that long I don't think? If so, they left the banners and stuff up. I saw Trey Anastasio (from Phish) where they played and there were still "Let's Go Smoke" Banners everywhere. Twas quite amusing when you consider the culture Phish breeds LOL. Fit in with Asheville well too ;)

I know the Smoke played the 2000-2001 season. Sad that they were a good team and now they're gone. Sniff.... Thats just wrong.

Cool Alice....kind of OT but a friend of mine worked a golf tournament for a couple of years and he met Brett...he said he was the nicest guy you would ever hope to meet......but I am still booing him in the RBC Center!! ;)

Hey, no sweat off my back! I love being in the mountains! I went to school in Boone and my sister-in-law used to live Asheville. :)

No kidding...my husband and i went to app! He got a degree in CS and we moved to Raleigh when he got a job with Nortel. He got hit by their 9th layoff and here we are again, back in the mountains. I do love it here though, very beautiful country. :)
I can probably organize a lgc road trip for whoever wants to come watch a game with us. :)
