Fayetteville Fireantz playing for the Championship!

Hey, did ya know? -- The Fireantz are playing for the President's Cup of the SPHL. They're up against the Jacksonville Barracudas.

If you want to see some live hockey, head to Fayetteville this weekend.

Game #1 is tomorrow, Friday night at 7:30PM

Game #2 is Sunday at 4:00PM

Mr. CL and I have a previous commitment tomorrow night, but we're seriously thinking of driving down on Sunday. So, if you're hungry for some live hockey, it's close by!! :D

my wife and I will be there tonight as we go to the Antz games every once in a while. Leaving Sunday open, but we may go to that game also. It's not the Canes and it's not the RBC Center but it's live hockey and you're almost certain to see a fight!!

Thanks for making this thread. I posted about this a while ago in the other thread and nobody seemed to care. Anyway, the Antz won again this afternoon and can now go for the sweep in Jacksonville. Go FireAntz!!!!

Yay, Antz!! We just got home. Were you there, H?

Steve had a media pass, so he was all around taking pictures. I asked for the best seat available. I got to sit right on the glass, right beside the visitor's penalty box. I've never gotten to pound on the glass at a game before -- so much fun! :D

There was this old guy, who's thing was that whenever there was a Jax player in the box, he'd come running down the stairs and then crouch by the box where there was about a 6"-inch gap in the glass and stick his face in the gap and just harrass and torment the poor guy sitting there for the entire 2 minutes. LMAO! Sometimes he'd even stick his hand in the gap ringing a cow bell at them! Most of the players would just ignore him, but one guy just yelled sh!t back to him, and one time said, "Go back to the museum, grandpa!" :lol:

I loved the crowd's standard chant after a goal: "1... 2... 3... He shoots!... He scores! ... Goalie!.... You suck!" :laugh:

It started out all Fireantz. After only 4 minutes into the game, it was 3-0 Antz!! :eek2: But things settled down, and the Antz sat on their heels a bit in the 2nd period. The 3rd period then was just back and forth and in just a couple minutes in was 5-4, Antz.

Antz hung on, though -- Final score: 6-5 Antz!!

Now they go to Jacksonville for game #3. It's the best of 5, so Fayetteville only needs one more win, and the President's Cup is theirs! :D

I went to game one with my 4 year old and we had a blast too... the little kid dancing the cotton eyed joe dance was his favorite. He liked the dancing girls and unfortunately now says, "And that was the taco bell." after every playoff goal he sees on tv. Brainwashed.

But no fights in game 1! Were there any in 2?

Not really. They were pretty spirited, but they got separated pretty quickly. Only once, when they're best forward, Rob Sich, got speared behind a goal, did I see gloves flying, but again-- they ref and the linesman jumped in really fast.

Also-- something funny -- The ref's last name is "Fish," so whenever he made a questionable call, the guy next to me would shout, "Hey, Fish?! You smell like tuna!" :beatup:

My wife and I were there Sunday also. Pretty good game even though it looked like it was over in the first 5 minutes or so. In the third the teams trading three goals in what seemed like three minutes was fun. We caught the ref's name also. I told my wife the Barracuda's brought their own ref.

Part of me wouldn't mind if they lost two in Jacksonville so we can go to one final game this season.

YAY the Antz just won the SPHL Championship!! Final score: 5-3

The Antz just WON THE PRESIDENT'S CUP!!!

They have live streaming video at the SPHL's website, so I watched the 3rd period. Antz won 5-3.

Their cup is quite lovely. A big silver loving cup-- you know, with big handles on either side of it, mounted on a wooden base. It's close to the size of the Stanley Cup.

And the guys were kissing it and raising it over their heads, and skating around-- each getting a turn with it-- just like it was the Stanley Cup. :D

For some reason, the Jacksonville arena wasn't available to finish the series, so they played at their practice facility. It looked like a RecZone-type place. They said only about 600 people could get in. :eek2:
