Well..... it's Cam vs. Grahame in nets....

And after only 8 seconds, Canada is up 1-0, from a feed off the opening face-off by Commodore.

Hmmmmm..... it's 2-0, Canada. PPG from Cammerelli.

That penalty kill looked anemic, and out-of-character for the U.S.

The Canadians were really dictating play for the first 5 minutes, but the Americans seem to be settling down.

Ohhh... Cam really had a nice save on LaRose Which is just kind of weird to see. I want Team USA to win.... but how can I root against Cam????

Team USA is just not as aggressive today.... but I also think this is probably the best competition they've had so far.

Goal by Lombardi and it's 3-0, Canada. :(

The Staal brothers are playing together on a line. That must be fun for them.

Ooops.... as I was fixing my spelling..... it 4-0, now.......... I wonder if Grahame can stay in this one, now....... sad......

Thanks for the update. I can't watch it and checked the score and saw it was 2-0 already. Was wondering who scored for Canada.

Keep the updates going.

Well... Ryan Suter takes a dumb penalty, and the last 2 minutes of the 1st will be spent in another penalty kill for the U.S.

Oh.. Cole had a good chance for a shorty, but kind of got pushed into the goal and into Cam. They both are laughing!

O.K...... E.... so the story is:

Pretty one-sided 1st period. Hope the U.S. gives themselves a good pep-talk during the intermission break. The Canadians are doing a really good job of shutting down the agressive skating that the Americans demonstrated in its other games.

(And... I just want to add that watching this game is very challenging this morning. For some reason... and I've re-booted a couple times... but my picture has been very flickery, but I discovered that if I kept the mouse button pushed down the flickering stops. So, I'm having to keep a stapler[something heavy] on top of my mouse so I have a clear picture!!)

I didn't see this thread and was all by myself in the Canada thread- lol.

what a nightmare. poor Crackers. Canada is on a mission and it's pretty obvious. Good news for Grahame so far is that none of his team mates has scored on him (Hurricane teammates) - yet.

It's great to see Eric & Jordan playing on a line together again. they looked like they were having fun yesterday....

Cam hasn't been busy.

And this dude on the WCSN broadcast keeps calling Jay McClement - jay MAClem-ent. It's too wierd.

Goals by Lombardi, 2 by Cammelleri and McClement.

I wonder if Grahame will come out in the 2nd or if they'll switch.

Oh, how funny-- I just discoverd that YOU had been writing in the other thread!

Yeah... I'm wondering if we'll see a new goalie, too....

Well... Grahame's still in, as the 2nd Period's underway. They just did one shot of Cam, and then switched to a shot of Grahame--- and it just ocurred to me that both guys are proudly showing off their 'Canes artwork on the their helmets. It's a good thing that red is a color effective for both national teams. :D

Thanks for the updates. Just back from lunch and my out-of-town colleague will be here shortly! Good timing.

(but the result thus far sucks, lol)

And also good that breast augmentation is such an American thing to do.

So, Justin's going to the box for Canada -- roughing. He's not too happy about it! A little whiney, there, buddy!

Oh, no!!! Erik's somehow hurt his left knee. He looks like he's in a lot of pain. He's off to the dressing room. That'll be horrible if we lose him......

SoCalcaniac

Yeah Willy needs to stop whining- he's taken penalities in EVERY game I've seen for Canada. He's playing with that 'edge' but needs to reign it in. They call EVERYTHING in Int'l hockey.

And now EC is getting sent to the box- for basically bumping into Jamal Mayers. And in this little collision- EC is HURT. Great. Just went to the dressing room.

Hip hip hooray!

Paul Statsny scored on Cam.... Commie was out of position to stop Statsny, and Cam couldn't get there.....

4-1 Canada...

The rookie, Paul Stastny picks up a juicy rebound from Cam to finally put the U.S. on the scoreboard!

It's now 4-1 --- aobut midway thru the 2nd Period!

Now it's 5-1. Another Lombardi goal. OY.

The Staal brothers are flying out there together...... just haven't put one in yet....

And no sign of EC......

OHhhhhhh.... POOR CHAD.....but awesome save by Ward on the break-away. It's just like the regular season!

Someone please tell me they saw Rosey go in on a breakaway on Cam??? Cam stopped him cold. It was a pretty play.... go Chad!

And how many times is this dude gonna say that the Canadian's have been 'concerned' about their goaltending? and it's been 'shaky'??? I'd say most games I've seen, the D has looked disinterested.....

SoCalcaniac

Stepniak for USA makes it 5-2! It's the St Louis Blues guys getting it done!

You two are lucky that you get to watch this.

Any news on EC? Hopefully he will be ok. We can't afford to have him hurt the start of the season.

It was funny hearing how Cam stuffed LaRose on the breakaway. Poor Rosie..LOL.

Haven't heard more about Cole.

It's cool to be able to watch these games online. And for just $5, quite a bargain, too.

05-07-2007, 02:16 PM
Well, Grahame's going to be watching the rest of this game from the bench.

Jason Baccashihua's in goal, now. Just made a nice save.

U.S.A.'s getting in penalty trouble, again, though-- 2 Americans in the box for 45 seconds of 5-on-3.

Cam just robbed LaRose again! Ha.

05-07-2007, 02:26 PM
And Lombardi with the hat trick-- 6-2, Canada.

Not enough time to pull this one out, I'm afraid.

6-2. Come on boys. Make it a good game. Don't let the slaughter continue.

Stasny just caught a puck near the ear. That couldn't have felt good.

And the game is over. Canada 6 USA 3.

Tough loss; Canada was all over it; and poor Crackers.....

Time for USA to regroup and come on back for the qtrs vs FIN- do or die time now.....

KaniacFever

Looks like Staal, Williams, Commodore, and Cam get the bragging rights for now.

Sounds like Canada pretty much dominated that game. Did the US test Cam at all. Funny that he robbed LaRose twice.

Canesluver
05-07-2007, 02:46 PM
Well, I think that was the toughest competitor the U.S. faced, so far. It'll be interesting to see how they rebound from this.

We now move into the quarter-finals, playing against Finland on Thursday.

Hey, thanks all for the play-by-play! I wish I could've watched but fun to read the commentary.

And......I just hope Erik is going to be okay. :(

Damn, didn't want to resurrect that old phrase.

From Luke:

Hurricanes forward Erik Cole appeared to escape serious injury to his left knee during the United States' 6-3 loss to Canada at the World Championships on Monday.

Cole collided awkwardly with St. Louis Blues forward Jamal Mayers and had to be helped off the ice, but a USA Hockey spokesman said Cole was OK and expected to play Thursday against Finland in the quarterfinals.

Canada's Jay McClement scored on Hurricanes goalie John Grahame only eight seconds into the game as the Canadians jumped out to a 4-0 first-period lead. Cam Ward was in net for the Canadians, making it an all-Carolina goalie matchup.

With the win, Canada wins the group and a soft quarterfinal matchup with Switzerland, while the Americans draw 2006 Olympic silver-medalist Finland.
