Who will win? Buffalo is on a mission after last year. The Sens haven't forgotten their defeat by the Slugs last year in Round 2. The Sens won their series with the Slugs 5-3 this year. I call Round 3 even. Opinions, please.

Bottom line is that WE didn't even make the playoffs, so all mojo-making procedures previously employed have therefore forthwith expired henceforth. :p

We need to find the magic formula for 07-08!

SoCalcaniac

^ Yeah, we know we didn't make the playoffs, so we're talking about the Sens killing the Sabres. That's the objective eh? Creating mojo for the team remaining who obviously isn't the Canes, and sticking to our MANTRA = ABB, ABB.

Or did I miss the other memo?

Believe me I'm with ya on the ABB, just sayin' that given our results this year doing the stuff that people did all this season for our mojo (threadstarter, etc..), it seems they've gone past their expiration date.... scuse my attempt at humor, nevermind, carry on.

StormChaser, I appreciated your humor (I got the memo ;) ). And I think the whole effect of the mojo may depend on whether or not lucky undies are being worn when the game (series?) thread is started.

I'm almost past the point of caring about this one. Not that I don't want the Sens to win, I do, I really do. I've just grown tired of all things Buffalo, to the point where it's just become tedious to me, and I can't work up a good hate-on. No matter what they do, we beat them last year and then we won the Stanley Cup. No matter what they ever do now or in the future, we'll always have won it and we'll have won it before they did. And somehow that still makes me smile. Hopefully it will get me through the next few weeks.

ABB!!! GO SENS!!!

I'm on a travel board with some rabid Buffalo fans. They were giving me the usual guff about Raleigh not appreciating our hockey team, and how we didn't sell out the RBC like other "real hockey" cities. I said to the most annoying one ... "Don't worry about the Hurricanes or their fans. We're doing just fine ... after all, we have a STANLEY CUP!!! Now tell me, exactly what year did the Sabres win one?"

Haven't heard from her on that Board since!

I've just grown tired of all things Buffalo

You said it sister. I am SO over BUF it is not even funny. ;)

I'm not regularly listening to XM like I normally would because it's just agonizing to constantly hear the yammering about the slugs, their fans, their injuries "last year" and that stupid montage/love fest for Rick Jeanrette. Enough. This was what I wanted to avoid and the Rangers & Islanders couldn't help us out. Today it was the baffoon Gary Greene telling everyone who would listen that "if Buffalo had home ice last year, they would have beat Carolina, that was the difference in the series" (oh, I thought it was missing McKee, Talinder and all those injuries they had :roll) and on and on and on it goes. Now I get to see Briere do yet another interview with that Harwood dude on Vs, who I guess is his new best friend or something since that is the only guy who gets interviewed. So yeah, I'm weary and tired of BUF.

Oh, CL- the best part of the morning show on my way to the gym this mornng was your email getting read by Flair and the HTM crew...... good job- I was cracking up when they read it!

They're taunting Emery cause he talked junk about the City of Buffalo in the press.

Breakdown indeed. I'm already exhausted from this.

Why Forslund & Olzyck aren't calling this game, I have no clue; why on earth do they have those weasels Benanatti & Elliot the "C" team calling this game? The love letters to BUF and their fans are just friggin annoying. And I have been waiting for them to say the inevitable "the Sabres want to atone for the loss last year against Carolina" whatever.

Good for Saprykin. The slugs looked like slugs and very slow. Why can't one talking head give the Sens credit for their speed?

I wonder what the Party on the Plaza looks like right now; or has BUF burned down? hmm. And wow, the booing and empty seats after it went 4-2 was pretty cool.

And as others i'm sick of the love fest with Buffalo. Oh Buffalo was just not Buffalo. Well did you stop to think that maybe Ottawa was good enough to take Buffalo off their game. These people are tools.

And here I was earlier thinking that when Eaves is healthy, they should bench Saprykin. Thank you Saprykin for making me look dumb. One time I won't mind looking dumb. And McAmmond so deserved that empty netter. He worked his arse off all game. Fitting that he got it.

Forslund had it right on the morning Mojo this morning: the city of Buffalo is conditioned to losing. They are plenty loud once they are rocking, but Ottawa was dominant and the crowd was largely invisible, particularly in the 3rd for Buffalo's 5 shots on goal.

SouthernHockeyChick
05-10-2007, 09:28 PM

Just finished "spying" on a couple of Sabres message boards. It seems that they're essentially gone from taking cheap shots at Ottawa toward taking them toward each other - of course, one person reminded them that the Canes lost game 1 in the ECF last year and to essentially look what happened after that. Call me not surprised that it takes this for the Buffaslug fans to give us any credit whatsoever. Regardless, I'll be sleeping well tonight after that highly enjoyable outcome ;)

As expected, on the Sabre message boards they are blaming the refs for tonite's loss. Wouldn't have to do with the fact that they were outscored on special teams 3-0 now would it? What a bunch of dumba**es. SO can anyone tell me what the over/under is for Mindy blowing a gasket on the bench? Just cruised over to the Sabres board. Check out the comments.

"Thing is, Buffalo was better than Carolina last year, and we all know who won that series. So no point giving up just yet. Things could still happen to allow Buffalo to advance."

"I had a feeling it was going to start like this. Saturday is a must-win game. Ottawa is better than last year's Carolina team."

"Look at what happened to the Canes after loosing to us in game one of the ECF? I mean, yea, Buffalo was injured like hell and probably could have won it, but fact remains that Carolina still lost game one and went on to win the shiny thing."

Gotta love how we are scorned in one sentance, then look upon for inspiration the next.

And it looks like the Leafs fans are making thier presence known there as well.

Another interesting stat they mentioned on Versus but I didn't want to mention during the game......going into last night's game Buffalo was on a 5-game Game 1 winning streak. They won all three of their Game 1's last year and were 2-0 this year in Game 1 going into last night's game.

IceSun
05-11-2007, 07:09 AM
LTD - You didn't need to worry about mentioning it during the game. In addition to Versus "mentioning" it, they also scrolled it (along with several other Slugs are Great stats) for a good part of the game on the BuffaloGasm Sports Ticker on the screen.

Awesome finish!

And as for their message boards and who was the better team last year (yada yada), I'm not going to be distracted by their serious case of Cup Envy. We got it - we deserved it - none of their pathetic whining will take that away (especially since that series was the source of their last most lopsided loss  )

That lopsided loss stat is really amazing.

Anyone know their 'come from behind' during games stats this season?

So this is the first time the Slugs have been behind in a series thus far. I'm glad the Canes got that out of the way in Round 1, lol. My recollection is we were behind in the MTL series (0-1 and 0-2, before our 4 straight wins) and then in the BUF series (0-1 and 1-2), right? I know it probably belongs in the "memory lane" thread, but that Game 5 of the BUF series was the most painful experience of all of the playoffs for me. It was exhausting and tense and I was physically ill (and unable to move from my seat from the 1st intermission on).

Hyena's right there.... I'm sure it's only temporary. ;)

My heart is so full right now; I was listening to bits of XM as I've been running errands and hit the gym this morning, and to hear the usual suspects ("Alan in Connecticut" specifically) call in to the show and souning like they are ready to slit their wrists, just makes me smile. Yep, it's just one game, OTT has to get their full game on - and all that, but there is now a little panic in their smug fanbase. I mean they left the game last night, that should tell us all we need to know, but you know the self entitleds are freakin' and that makes me hoot.

And the fact that they are now in bed with the Leafs fans, or the Leafs fans have gone over to the dark side THAT is friggin hilarious.

E- Versus had a stat that had the slugs come from being down 2 goals 29 times during the regular season; I don't remember the rest of what they were yakking about, as my ears started bleeding cause they were on that continuous blather.

Oh and they can keep on talkin' about who was the better team last year; blah, blah, blah, blah, blah- wah, wah, but who's names are on the Cup? He-l-lo? purchase a clue oh deluded ones........

I liked the other stat they were throwing out last night: Buffalo and Ottawa have never been behind a series yet this year. Well throw that stat out for Buffalo cause they behind now :)

No doubt Buffalo will come out with a vengenance Saturday, but you gotta think that Ottawa will be a bit more relaxed and Buffalo will have the pressure. I'm sure Ottawa said before the game that if they can take one of these 2 in Buffalo, they'll be happy. Well getting that W in the first game has to release some kind of pressure for game 2.

But I can say, if Buffalo doesn't get that PP going, they aren't making it to the finals.

And can we please get our hands on Ottawa's PP book.

Oh, Baby — 14 pounds!
Mercy Hospital arrival is biggest newborn in memory

By Henry L. Davis

Tammy Dougherty is a happy but tired mom. She gave birth Tuesday to a healthy 14-pound, 5-ounce boy in Mercy Hospital.

Evan James Dougherty is the largest newborn anyone can recall at the South Buffalo facility. He is also tall — measuring more than 23 inches long.

“I’m still stunned,” his mother said. “It’s amazing that anything that big was inside me.”

For safety, Dougherty’s obstetrician delivered the baby 10 days early by Caesarean section, surgically removing the baby through the abdomen.

After nine months of carrying Evan, Dougherty said she was excited to see her second child and relieved that she could breathe easily once again.

“For the last month and a half, I couldn’t do a thing,” the Buffalo woman said.

Dougherty said that after Evan was born, she and her husband, Robert, just stared at each other in disbelief as the nurses weighed him. “We wondered if someone’s hand was pressing down on the scale,” she said.

Officials at Mercy, part of the Catholic Health System, said they don’t have a record of largest babies, but this is the largest anyone can remember, said JoAnn Cavanaugh, director of public relations.
