What a wierdo!!

Suspect arrested for impersonating NHL players
By DERRICK GOOLD
St. Louis Post-Dispatch

When police finally caught the man they suspect of masquerading as Blues winger Keith Tkachuk, he was carrying a Louisiana drivers license that said he was Brian Leetch, a defenseman for the New York Rangers last season. He also was the passenger in a car driven by a girlfriend who didn't know his full name.

Elander Mark Lachney, of Denham Springs, La., was arrested Tuesday in Pineville, La., on three counts of identity theft and one count of bank fraud, all felonies. All three counts of identity theft involved establishing credit card accounts in Tkachuk's name. Lachney is being held in Rapides Parish, La., without bail because of a violation of probation related to a previous felony conviction. Maryland, Texas, Arkansas and other areas in Louisiana also have interest in questioning Lachney, and extradition is being considered by two states, police said.

Lachney's arrest is the culmination of a far-reaching investigation into the theft of three hockey players' identities that involved the combined efforts of the National Hockey League, the FBI, the Secret Service, the Blues' director of security and law enforcement in four states.

Police said Lachney had three Louisiana drivers licenses made out with his picture and the names of three pro hockey players - Tkachuk, Leetch and Jeremy Roenick, a center with the Philadelphia Flyers. He also had applied for three credit cards in Tkachuk's name, receiving and using one, police said.

all that stuff about identity theft is scary. he must have gotten their SS# if he got a credit card. I mean, surely Roenick has a credit history on these computer searches companies do that would tell them his SS#. I guess if you are a smooth enough talker and get the right person, you can talk them into "bending" the rules

on the other hand, I think there is some basic information that is required before you consider yourself a girlfriend and his first and last name would be on that list for me ;)

DOB, SSN, place of birth, last known address, Voter Registration info, etc. can be found in a VERY short time online. it's all there for the taking.
hypothetical situation: this couple was looking for the SSN of a relative who had passed away several years ago... because of insurance reasons. it was thought there was an inheritance that was never doled out. but, the SSN was needed in order to find out. nobody in the family had it. the couple found it online, along with all the above info as well, within an hour. This was ALL of the important info, from someone who was dead. bingo, new identity.

Identity theft is entirely TOO easy. Something the government should deal with. they can lump it in with their "Patriot Act" (aka- 'know your neighbor') bullcrap, and fix a serious problem that is worthy of the resources it would take.

This is very frightening...as much privacy as athletes try to maintain, can you imagine how easy it is to find out an "average Joe's" info??

"He also was the passenger in a car driven by a girlfriend who didn't know his full name. "

well thats a girlfriend for ya!!

I was watching this movie before I came to work tonight about a hockey
player that was the only one left at the arena practicing.....as he was
dressed and leaving, he was stabbed and killed. The killer dragged him
out onto the ice. Turned the water on and filled the arena to over a foot
more water and froze it. So they find this blood trail to the middle of the
ice and then they go out on the ice and this hockey player is buried in
the ice............................................... .....SPOOKY!!!!! then I had to
leave for work. So I never really got the jest of why? Probably some
jealous boyfriend the hockey player was boffing his girlfriend. :p

ok I just found a HUGE flaw in that whole scene!! How could there still be
a trail of blood to the middle of the rink if more water was filled in? DOH!!!
Can't get anything past me!! Only took me twelve hours to figure that one
out.

arrrghhhh....I have been watching too much court TV on that Michael
Peterson trial!!
