Quarter Final is at 12:15PM. We're in the elimination rounds, now.
I'm hoping to be able to watch at least the 3rd period uninterupted. Being at work sucks!!

About midway thru the 1st ..... Grahame's made a couple really good saves.
No score
Ooops! Almost forgot a BIGGIE...... Erik Cole's playing!! :D I guess the injury to his knee appeared worse than it really was.

Only about 3 minutes left in the 1st, and Finland scores first: 1-0, Finland
A wrister from J. Ruutu on Grahame's stick side from low in the slot..... after a giveaway by the U.S. :(
and with a minute left, the U.S. is heading to the penalty box........

:usa: A beautiful high-light reel goal -- SHORT-HANDED..... a 2-on-1 with our own, ROSEY saucering a beautiful pass over to Toby Petersen who gets his first shortie of the tournament.
It's 1-1!!!! :D about 2 minutes into the 2nd period
And Zach Parise was just robbed of a breakaway! :eek2: I feel a momentum shift!
One more thing....
It looks like Team Finland has CHEERLEADERS! They're in space-looking jumpsuits -- silver mylar!!
O.K.... remember my coment about momentum shift? I take that back..... a breakaway... this time for Finland...
Score: 2-1, Finland

It's 2-2!!!!! :usa:
Tyler Arnason evens things up--- not officially a PPG, but almost just a second or two after it expired.
:D
Of course it would happen while I ran out to get my ear buds (I'm on a lunch break now, and want to listen better).
Well... CRAP!!!! Finland scores.... yuck!!!
3-2, Finland.....
KaniacFever
05-10-2007, 01:25 PM
Crap we can't seem to keep the scored tied long enough.
keep the updates coming. Hopefully the next one will be, US ties it again.
Yeah for Rosie for picking up an assist SH. This kid might be racking up the points for us next year SH if he keeps this type of play up.
Canesluver
05-10-2007, 01:30 PM
And Stempniak evens the score!!!
3-3
:usa:
Welll.... SH!T.... I don't even finish typing and Finland gets a PPG!!
4-3, Finland
This is a wild 2nd period!! :eek2:
U.S. have GOT to stay out of the box. Finland's power play is too good.

Damn. Once again, we score then they score right away.
How's our guys look?
Canesluver
05-10-2007, 02:17 PM
USA scores!!! :usa:
Hutch with a PPG!!!!! :D
It's 4-4, folks!!! There's about 4 minutes left in the 3rd.
I think we look very good. Finland is a VERY good team, and we're keeping up.
Our problem is that (IMO), Grahame is a good goalie--just not a great goalie. Wish we were stronger in that position.

Oh dear, one of the Fins took a jolting hit. He doesn't look good. Helped off the ice. #3 -- can't read his name
OHHHHH-- HUGE save by Lehtonen. Stempniak was robbed with 15 seconds left in the 3rd. Man!!

No clue CL - but he's probably better than Grahame. :(

It seems to me that shootouts should only be for pool play, but obviously the powers that be don't care about my opinion.

OH.. and by the way... with Chris Clark out, Colesy's the acting captain. :D

When they've got multiple games on one day (like this) I guess it's not feasible.

05-10-2007, 02:50 PM
That was the first time it did that.
Grahame says NO to the first shooter!!! :D
And Kessel is denied, too, for the U.S.
Canesluver
05-10-2007, 02:50 PM
Grahame denies the 2nd shooter!
And Stempniak is shut-out, too......
And Grahame stops the 3rd shooter!!! And Parise is stopped, too!!!
We've moved to SUDDEN DEATH!!!

05-10-2007, 02:55 PM
Awwwwww......
the Fins win it.... We are done. No semi-finals for us.....
Grahame stopped the previous 5 shots, and looked good through-out. It's a shame the game had to be decided like this.

Damn. Sounds like they played one hell of a game though. Sounds like Grahame did well in the SO, we just couldn't get anyone to score for us.
Atleast we still have 4 canes in the tournament, so its not all a wash.

They're giving out some presents -- I'd call them parting gifts -- to some U.S. players. They're calling it best players of the tournament. Something in a big, colorful shopping bag for Stempniak, Stastny, and Petersen.
They look sad.....
O.K.... now I really need to get back to work.

Thanks again, CL and everybody, for keeping us updated. I've been in a conference call all afternoon so couldn't watch but at least I was able to get the updates here in near real time! (at least I didn't know the difference  )
Sure sounds like all our guys made contributions, which is a positive. Oh well, pull for Canada now?

I think it was a really good game. One of those, where you just sit there, thinking, "Man! I wish I could be there!."
They worked really, really hard, and I think they were coached well, too.
That Jere Lehtonen shot in the end was just a perfect, shoot-out goal. It's a shame none of the U.S. players could get one past K. Lehtonen.....
The guys really surrounded Grahame at the end, though, trying to give him support before the handshakes. You know it'll be a hard one for him to shake off.

Jere Lehtonen scored the shootout goal? Well sh*t, no shame in that. He scores in the shootout on EVERYONE.
Thanks for the play by play! I get to come home from work and almost feel like I saw it!

Late to the party - I was alternating watching and doing other things so I missed all the fun on here- great job CL ; tough loss- Poor Zach Parise, he flew all the way out there when the Devils got tossed, and only played one game and he's done. UGH.
That misplay of the puck by Crackers was brutal. Good job by the guys to keep battling- I don't like that shootout in International play, but hey, that's the way it rolls.
That saucer pass by Chad to Toby Peterson was a beauty; and he was everywhere. Nice to see Hutch have a good tournament, maybe a good confidence booster.
And yeah, Jere Lehtonen is money in the shootout- I just closed my eyes when they said his name:lol: .
Good luck to the Canadian Canes- I'll cheer them on....
