I read over at FanHome that official team practices aren't allowed until September and this is probably a lot of the baby Canes getting in shape. Not that that's a bad thing, but there doesn't appear to be any "real" practices until September 14 IIRC from that post. Apparently the RecZone schedules the ice to be available for them if they choose to use it on those days.

No, I think the one hour practice is more of a mercy related function ~ after months of no hockey, we need to be eased back into it lest our heads explode from joy of it all. Two hours the first time out would just be too much. http://smilies.sofrayt.com/%5E/_950/wink.gif

I'm pretty certain that off-ice conditioning will be taking place as well. I'm sure they'll be doing *something* for more than 1 hour. Even kids train/condition longer than that.

Of course, unless they are going to let people into the weight room - I suppose the don't have to publish that part. ;)

I read a post over on the N&O boards by someone who says he/she has seen Brendl in his/her work place. They didn't say what type of work due to privacy policies. That person said he was in fantastic shape and looked as if he had been working out hard all summer. Hope they are telling the truth! It would be great to see what a fit and healthy Brendl can bring to this team.

From Today's N&O:

FINISHING TOUCHES: The Canes expect their new home at the RecZone in Raleigh to be ready for their prospect conditioning camp Aug. 2-7.

"The key rooms will be done then, and 10 days after that, everything else should be complete," Karmanos said. "The goal was to have it by Aug. 1, and it looks like we're going to come very close."

The Canes remodeled existing space at their practice rink on Hodges Street to create a 5,000-square-foot locker-room complex. Veterans will have ice time there for voluntary workouts beginning Aug. 11.

Basically, practices from tomorrow through September 11th are voluntary for the Canes, meaning that you may or may not see various Canes on the ice.

Unless I hear about a lot of Canes out there at the RecZone, I'm not sure that I will attend any practices until September 12th. But, I might change my mind based on reports I read here and elsewhere from anyone who does go. :)

Just got back from the Reczone Practice, so here's the lowdown...Francis, Brindy, K Adams, Cole, Wallin, Daniels were on the ice I beleive that Nasituk (sp?) and Bubba were in goal. Brindy and Francis were working pretty hard, the rest just shot at the goal the whole time. It was pretty much over by 11:00 which a little sitting a chatting before they left the ice at 11:20. News 14 was filming. Small crowd today, but glad I went.

I was there briefly (saw you AshleyGirl when you spoke to the camera guy about not ratting you out to your employer! ;), but didn't get a chance to say hello).

Actually it was DesRochers in the goal (along with Bubba).

Friesen observed. Very low key. Ronnie and JD didn't wear helmets. Ronnie didn't even have shoulder pads on .

The players used the new locker room entrance to/from the ice (and there was rope at the end of the bleachers). Hyena was there so she may know if any of them chose to walk thru the lobby or not when exiting the building.

I beleive that Nasituk (sp?) and Bubba were in goal.
nah, it was Patty D and Bubba. (girl, you should have found me, i had your poster in my car!)

short practice. the whole first 45 minutes was just skating. oh my it was so good to see brindy out there. (and erik too of course, but he was there last week...). :spin:

all the players left by the (new?) outside entrance...the small group of fans who were still there were all waiting outside by those benches in front. everybody stopped and signed except for ronnie (but he was the first to leave so there weren't many people outside then). i hate to think what's gonna happen when more players start coming and more fans start trying to get autographs -- surely it isn't easier on them (meaning the RecZone and the players) to have a crowd outside the front door instead of inside the lobby....

On a serious note. If anyone has the hockey withdrawals, I highly recommend you take in a practice. I've been lying pretty low this off season but once I got in there and saw Rod, Erik back on the ice, and looking exceptionally fit - well it just made my day. I kid like the rest of you about how fine our hockey team looks, but just seeing them out there, getting ready for a really promising season, well in simple words, I truly love the game.

Cole
KAdams

Boughner

Jeff Daniels was very clearly running the practice/drills.

No seriously (well actually the chin hair did suit him), he seemed to be working hard, tied up some sticks, etc., and didn't fall down as much as Hill, lol (actually he didn't fall down at all). Ronnie did the customary shoot the bull by the boards with him at breaks. Seemed low key.

hhmmm, a defenseman who can score? He Cannot be #8!!!

wow, just realized that Marty Murray is listed at 5'9", 180.. he must be teeny tiny if Vrbata is listed at 6'1", 190!!

 ...chin hair...

If Radim is 6'1" and 190 lbs., I am the same height and I weigh more..and oh yeah, I will marry O and have 10 kids!! LMAO

wow, i was about to die during those 4-on-4's today. too much like a real game. i had to contain myself from cheering when they scored (i was pulling for the white team, haha). they were working hard, too. already brindy and erik looked sharp together. :D

because i was watching the white team so hard i didn't really see much of boughner.... he did stop to sign afterwards and he seems to be a nice guy.

Of course you were cheering for the white team with #17 on it.. :D ;)

It is hard to contain your excitement...when I went to the Rookie Conditioning Camp, when I saw the jerseys, I wanted to applaud when they came out on the ice..but since no one else did, I didn't either!

I was HIGHLY impressed with Boughner. It was only and hour and a half of observation but I'm excited about this guy. I thought he looked quite skilled. I also have a Ladies Thread sorta comment to make about him..... ;)

Seriously though, he seems to have great positioning, is fast enough and looks big enough in his gear to lay some mean hits. Just what we needed! :spin:

OMG. That's TLT-sized! (Martin St. Louis) ;). In fact, according to team rosters, TLT has 1 pound on MM.

Those measurements HAVE to be without gear....surely! If it's the same as TLT it HAS to be.

Amanda and I saw a guy come out of the locker room today that we did not recognize for sure. I know what Murray looks like and I didn't *think* it was him....the guy's hair was pretty light. Wait, I just looked at his pic again and I think that was him. Cool. He seemed very nice! And I didn't notice him being tiny or anything.

nobody new at practice today. they did a lot of skating and then more 4-on-4. this time the red team won. :D if someone goes tomorrow, please give a report.

here is a pic from yesterday...SHC took it actually, hanging my camera over the glass. clear RecZone pics are hard to come by so i'm posting this even though nothing exciting is happening. :D

just for kicks i checked the RecZone's schedule for september and for some of the days during Training Camp, they have two practices a day scheduled...is this normal? just curious.

Regarding there being two practices in one day, I would guess that one practice is for the veterans, while the other is for the rookies/Lowell dudes. Other than that, I'm really not sure why there are two practices... :)

I think it is something like that. At the very least, it splits up quite a large group of players. That ice surface is crowded enough with 23 in the regular season.

Two practices? Oh lord, they'll have to start charging me RENT at the RecZone!

Okay this guy looks stupid laughing by himself at the top of the page. Just thought the JeffORocks/SHC detour from the Ladies thread was funny. Funnier here than it would have been in the Ladies thread.

You know SHC and I are in so many places, we can't keep em straight!! :p ;)

ron's#1 and I went to practice...not a big crowd. All the guys were there from yesterday except O  , but Marty Murray was there. He is a little fella. They did a lot of drills..my favorite was the two stick "horse and cart" thing. And I also liked Nicky throwing that huge tire around..he acted like it was nothing!! :D Lots of upper body strength training and conditioning today!! Once again...just great to see Canes on the ice!

They were the same drills....they had sticks on the ice....a trainer standing on the net as a Cane pushed and pulled it....a medicine ball, a tire :D , cones for skating back and forth and the stick pulls...it was very interesting watching them..

Murray looked very small!! :D I can't think who he was paired with...it was Erik and Brindy; Ronnie and JD; Nicky and Malic; maybe it was Ziggy..... He seemed to have good speed. I didn't really see him take any shots on goal...they really didn't practice that before I left!!
