Hey all. Can anybody recommend a good eye doctor in the Cary/West Raleigh area? My current one is a ripoff and every time I go there I end up waiting 20+ minutes after my appointment time. Plus it is too far away from me. Thanks in advance. :D

My eye doc is Dr. Osama Said ... but he's at Calibre Vision Care at 3905 New Bern Ave. (231-6040).

Is that within the area you want to be in, b/c I've always thought he's very god.

The Eye Care Associates at Brier Creek are very good. And they've got the office decorated with Canes stuff.

The Eye Care Associates in Cary are good too..at the Barnes and Nobles plaza. I've been going there for over 20 years. I've seen Dr. Cloninger at some of the Canes games and per their sign, they are the "official" eye dr's of the NC State Wolfpack ;)

I will throw in another vote for Eye Care Associates. I go to Dr Whittington in the Brier Creek location.

FWIW, I am a somewhat hard to treat patient. I wear gas permeable (hard) contacts, have an extremely high prescription -- more than legally blind without correction (~-14 or ~20/2600), and astigmatism in one eye. She has me seeing the best I have seen in years, even considering the specialist I used to go to when I lived in Pittsburgh.

I also found their prices pretty reasonable, plus I have vision insurance and they take it. :)

i have been using Dr John Ward with Wake Opthamology at Cary Parkway and Kildaire Farm Road. I have been going to him about 20 years.

I go to Eye Care Associates at the Cary Crescent Commons location (Kildaire Farm and Tryon). I also have a very difficult prescription, in fact, I've had major problems with my eyes over the last month and they've been great trying to help get me straightened out, in fact, I owe the doctor a call because she called yesterday to check up on me.

And yeah, when I was first looking for an eye doctor, I chose them because 1) they're the Hurricanes team eye doctors  and 2) they support my vision plan. Gotta love a doctor's office where you see a picture of the whole office with the Stanley Cup when you walk in the door. My optician was telling me that the Canes gave ECA a private party with the Cup so all the offices got to get their pictures taken with it. And another BTW, Brian Hoyle is their Media Director.

When I lived up there, I went to the Eye Care Associates in the Crossroads area--forget exactly what center it was in. I saw a Dr. Silver. She was good.

I do remember them giving me a 10% discount for being a Wolfpack Club member as well as something for being a Canes STH -- probably because I didn't have vision insurance at the time.

I absolutely LOVE Custom Eye Care. They have two offices -- one @ Leesville @ 540 and one near 440 on Capital.

Dr. Tart is an awesome guy, and their prices are great too, in case you don't have insurance (they used to do $129 for a visit+discount glasses).

I see Dr. Silver also. The Eye Care Associates at Crossroads is at the Centrum near Kohl's and BJ's.

Next month will be my first appointment with her since I got Lasik in January. It'll be so nice not to have to buy contacts because my vision insurance coverage is terrible. :D

QM, who did your Lasik? I need to get some stability in my eyes then I'll be in the market.

A girl I work with just got Lasik done last Monday and went to Dr. Lowry at Lowry Opthomology. (Millbrook and Falls of Nuese). They did an excellent job and they have a special going on right now that made it a lot cheaper. She said his people skills were a little lacking but he definitely knew what he was doing. She went from not being able to see the first line of the eye chart to seeing the 12th line and hasn’t had any problems at all.

I had mine done at LasikPlus in Raleigh by Dr. Lori Ann Travers. It only took 4 minutes to do both eyes, and I've been thrilled with the results.

The only downside to LasikPlus is they run the place like a factory--it's all business and the waiting room is always packed with people. I chose them because it's all they do and Dr. Travers has tons of experience. I was also pretty impressed by their free exam. They had more equipment to measure prescriptions than Eye Care Associates and told me that my glasses/contacts prescription (the same one I'd been using for over 10 years) was way too strong. Since I've had Lasik, I've had fewer headaches than I can remember, so I think they were on to something. :)

There's nothing quite like not having to worry about where my glasses are or how quickly I'm going to run through my contacts. It also makes traveling so much easier because it's one less thing to worry about.

My vision is now a bit better than 20/20.

Man I wish I could do Lasik... prescription is too high, though.
