well, since we're taking half-bloods into consideration here... I'll throw my name in as being a little more than half Irish. :p

I'm actually Scot-Irish as well. My relatives tell me that neither my Irish great-great grandmother nor my Scottish great-great grandfather could live in either Ireland or Scotland without getting a hard time for marring the other. So they came to America where everyone immediately hated them for being both. True story. I usually claim Irish because the have such a great reputation. :D

Sis and I are ludicrously Scottish and Cherokee Indian. The Ulster Scot part of the family goes waaaay back when we were also Welsh. Jenn's gonna come in here and give us all a history lesson now about the cultural/religious-political demographic of North Carolina. lol :D

WEEEEELLLLLLLLLLL...

Most folks( whose families have been in North Carolina over the last couple hundred years) came from English, Lowland Scots, Ulster Irish/ Scots ( depending if your family was Irish or Scottish during the Ulster Plantation of 1603 ), Welsh and German. No Catholic Irish immigrants in any large number, mostly because this was a primarily British, therefore Protestant, area.

Just as an aside ~ North Carolina has the highest population of Highland and Lowland Scots outside of Scotland than anywhere else in the world.

Hmmmm........wonder if my family is included in that? you have to go WAY, WAY, WAY back on both sides of my family before you find someone not born in NC.

Oh, and welcome HockeyPat :spin:

Probably. :) Do you know what the date of the first immigrating family member was? Our family is the same way too ~ we've been here since 1645 or so.

My great, great grandfather came from Highland Scots. According to my brother, who attended a huge family reunion in Chicago many years ago, he came over to escape the bad time he got for marrying an Irish gal. He ended up in the coal fields of Southern Illinois. He ended up having three boys who managed to have a falling out so bad that each brother slightly changed the spelling of our/his last name. I think it was over how they split up great, great grand pappies land. Which is funny because neither the Irish nor the Scots are know for carrying a grudge. ;)

BTW, What's the difference between an Irish Wedding and an Irish Funeral?

One less drunk.

That was very very bad. I like that. :D
A lot of my family is from the North Carolina Highlands which had a large Scots settlement. They still have Highland games every year. Why oh why would anyone want to see how far they can throw a telephone poll?

You know...http://www.jordysworld.de/emoticons/conf46.gifI've always wondered about those things. Where do you put them at night and is it difficult when flying. Do they ask you to buy another ticket for your pole. I know that pole toters are much more persecuted than smokers ever could think to be. http://www.jordysworld.de/emoticons/schmuddel11.gifAlmost all public places have smoking areas but areas for pole toters... no. A travesty I think.http://www.stopstart.freeserve.co.uk/smilie/soapbox.gif

See.. now you got my little red headed temper up...oh the injustice... oh the humanity...http://www.jordysworld.de/emoticons/wut92.gif

Even more impressive that you can throw it several feet.
You know, I could really run with this

You know.. prudence would dictate that you not run with your pole. You could put your eye out. I'm a nurse. I know these things happen.

Honestly, the thought only occurs to me about other peoples telephone poles... I prefer to leave mine where it is. ( besides, the carrying case is WAY too expensive ) :p

Gracious, a girl makes an innocent remark about Scottish Taber throwing and people start whipping out their poles and waving them around. I just don't know what to make of you people http://fool.exler.ru/sm/obm.gif.... (as she sits on the veranda fanning herself)
