I'm waiting for that site to melt down at about 2:59. Not that anyone will be there checking for opponents...*coughAvscough*
To somewhat quote Cecil Adams when someone asked him about the nine Eskimo words for snow (http://www.straightdope.com/classics/a1_297.html)...
"kaniktshaq moritlkatsio atsuniartoq"
or
"Look at all that freaking snow."
Seriously, even this masked warrior fears the Avs...they shall definitely not be a mere sleigh ride or ski trip... :eek2:

I hope I'm not the harbinger of bad news, but if I had to bet, I would go with the Canes invading Joe Louis Arena this upcoming season instead of the Wings invading the RBC to get their collective rears handed to them again, since the Wings came to the RBC last season. Also, I would also bet that the Canes get the pleasure of going west and into the Pepsi Center to take on the Avs, since they came to the RBC last season too.
I *really* hope I'm wrong here...

Well maybe out inter-conference wild card thing would go to the Wings so we would play them twice, once in Joe Louis Arena and once at the RBC. Why the heck was that game not nationally televised anyway? I would think someone would be interested in a Stanley Cup Finals rematch! I can't remember what night of the week the game was on though.... but if other hockey games were being shown in lieu of it on ESPN it makes little sense. They made sure to nationally televise the Leafs beating us the first time they played us this season!
The anticipation is killing me.

(sighs) Well, we are talking about a network that has never really supported the very team and sport that is their reason for being since...I don't know...maybe 1990, when Ronnie was traded to the Pens. So, anything ESPN does that disses the Canes and/or hockey AND doesn't make a lick of sense, like not televising last season's Canes/Wings rematch, doesn't surprise me.

Aha! We play Detroit twice! Once away and once at home! New Year's eve against Jiggy and the Ducks sounds great! With the final home game comes a chance for revenge for last year's final home loss against the Islanders. No complaints from me about the schedule. Too bad we don't host the Avs but oh well. I can't wait for the Detroit game.

It's on the Offical Canes site. Who hoo NJ on opening night at the RBC.
The stuff I like:
Home opener against New Jersey - A chance to "dethrone" the Stanley Cup champs automatically at home? I love it.
New Year's Eve game against Anaheim - Here's hoping they don't pull a NYR on us...
Home AND away games against Detroit - I'll take "More Revenge" for $1000, Alex. :D
Homestand - Not counting the November 12th game against Washington, the Canes practically have a seven game homestand during Turkey Month.
Stuff I don't like:
At the risk of sounding selfish... - WHAT?! No home game on or right next to Halloween? Darnit...guess I'll go to whichever is the Halloween Celebration game for my birthday, which will be either the game against San Jose or Toronto.
Snowbound - The Canes have the joy of going to the Pepsi Center to take on the supercharged Avs...joy.
On the Road Again - While I'm happy that the Canes get the Devs for the home opener, why couldn't the opener be the season opener too?! Oh well...razzin' frazzin' Florida puddytats. Why them for the opener AND closer, WHY?!

Dammit. AGAIN?
This obviously goes into the stuff I don't like (and don't think we should've gotten 2 seasons in a row) category. Homestands after the new year = GOOD. Homestands (7+ games) in the first 2 months of the season = BAD.

Actually, the Canes are hitting Steeltown twice, October 22nd and March 19th. :)

Just glancing through the schedule, more intense study will occur later on, I see we do play in Colorado and since I now have friends there............. ;) Of course it is on a Tuesday which will require more vacation time, but I am willing to make the sacrifice!
I think we have all those home games in Nov. and Dec. because of the lack of them in Oct. I am all for games on TV during State Fair week! Sounds like a really good plan to me

Exactly how I feel. At first glance, I see 3 games a possibility ( sad, I know) - 2 in Buffalo, 1 in Ottawa. Others are either too far away or during the height of Lake Effect Season. As the season progresses, maybe more dates will seem possible. I'm not wishing away my summer just yet, but it's great to have something to look forward to.

Hey ya'll I need your advice/help:
It looks like my hubbie and I will be in New York Oct. 15-19. Looking at the schedule, as it turns out we'll be playing the Rangers on the 18th! How cool that would be to see a game in MSG-- something we've never done!! Anyway-- two questions for those of you in the know:
1) How hard is it to get tickets there? Is that even possible?
2) Should we wear our sweaters, or would we be beaten senseless and unrecognizable?
folgersnyourcup

Sounds like that should be a lot of fun! I have no idea how hard it or how easy it is to get tickets there, sorry.... I think as long as you don't wear an Islanders jersey you should be fine! ;) Otherwise, I would fear for my life. I hope someone here can give you info on getting ticket tips. Good luck!

Smarter? I don't know about that, but I do think it all depends on which arena you are in and more importantly, how you conduct yourself. I also think it helps if you are female ;)
I probably wouldn't wear mine, but it's more an issue of not wanting to pack it or leave it somewhere than concern. I intend to make more road trips this year so I guess I'll have to decide whether to take a jersey or not. I do dress in Canes' colors with Canes' earrings.
I'll say this though, based on the info Puckin and I got at game 5, don't come to NJ in a Rangers' jersey, especially if it's a Holik jersey. That would be dangerous ;)

I can atest to wearing a Hurricanes jersey (hat, coat, etc.) in the ACC and not getting treating anything but top notch. The Leafs fans actually went out of their way to make me feel at home. I can't speak for NYC, but after entering the belly of the Hockey Beast with my team colours on and leaving with myself intact, I say GO FOR IT!

Back on the topic of the schedule, I have yet to go over it with a fine toothed comb, but hope to do that today.
It's certainly nice that the schedule and mini plans have been received with excitement! Those poor Tampa fans I keep talking about are pissed. They have two 3:00pm games - New Year's Eve (a Wednesday) and January 2nd (a Friday). Guess they presume everyone has those days off and will be able to get to a 3pm game?
Another little gem is that apparently for years they have had a 20 game plan where you PICKED the games you wanted to go to. This year, after taking people's deposits, etc. they have come out with two different plans of predetermined games - no "you pick 'em". I suppose the material concerning these plans may not have explicitly said they 20 game plan was still flexible, but apparently ticket reps and materials didn't say it would be predetermined games either. And there is nothing on the team website showing which games are in which plan.
The Canes management get some knocks now and then, but I swear the folks in Tampa get screwed over and over. I know people were underwhelmed by the STH "dinner", but in Tampa it was listed as a benefit of being a STH and they never even had it.
So here's to the Canes - the DO do somethings right! :)

What is wrong with Tampa management?? Are they trying to drive away the fans that they made with their successful season...not to mention that ones that have stuck by them through the good and the bad???
I don't understand how these people think.....they need to ask the "Regular Joe" his opinion more often...in my opinion!! ;)

I just got back from the Tampa/St.Pete area and my friend told me that the people around there are apathetic about the team. First, the Tampa people are pissed because the arena is called the St Pete Times Forum .Its the old "Tampa hates St. Pete" and vice versa. Second, he said the parking there is atrocious and very costly (like 10-15 dollars)and traffic is a nightmare on game night. Third, he says that there are more opposing team jerseys there at the games due to all the transplants. I'm going to see about going to a game down there in the winter some time . I haven't seen the schedule yet(I told y'all I just got back) but I'll go and wear my 'Canes stuff for whoever is playing. Later.
