Seeing my man G Love and Special Sauce Friday at the ampitheater but have never been there. Need advice on
1. can you bring food and drink? Coolers? Picnics?
2. lawn chair or bring a blanket? or either or? Are those foldable lawn chairs allowed?
3. Best way to get there from westbound I 40 and to avoid traffic?
4. How early do I need to get there for a 630Pm show
5. Any other tips? Do I Need bug spray?
6. Anyone else going and want to connect blankets to hoarde real estate?
It's been a while since I've been to a lawn seating venue so need all the info I can get. :)

1. don't think so
2. yes for all
3. exit going south on 1/64 and exit on the Regency Park exit (which is 64 I guess) - the 2nd exit, which will clover leaf you around to going East, then just follow signs, but you are making a right into Regency Park almost immediately.
4. depends on how full you think the show will be and if you care about chair/blanket location - I imagine 6pm is fine
5. I went to two shows there last summer and don't recall bugs - I'd bet they spray the area before shows
6. can't go - but I'm sure you'll love the show and venue, it's really a fantastic site. Have fun!!

Generally, the only concerts where you can bring food/drink are for the Pops and some of the free events like July 4th. The Koka Booth website will give more details. I have been able to bring a bottle of water in without issue.
Do bring your own bug spray. I always bring a small flashlight-- when it gets dark and you go to the bathroom or concessions, it's nice to be able to see your way back.
I get to concerts fairly early to get a good place for my stuff-- chair and blanket. You get a better view from the grass-- not worth sitting in the paved area in front of the stage if folks start dancing/standing up they'll crowd you and/or you won't be able to see. However, you can always make your way to the stage if folks start standing/dancing-- I like having a "home base" of sorts.
A few pointers on the blanket/lawn chair-- don't try and sit in one of those low to the ground beach chairs-- your view will be less than desired. One of those chairs with matching condom should do. A blanket is nice to have if you get stuck in the pine straw, otherwise, it's not really needed, unless you want the real estate.
I like concerts at the Koka Booth amphitheater- small, well maintained venue with really good site lines from the grassy area-- I don't enjoy the tables or the reserved seating.

What don't you like about the reserved seating, OTB? We've got reserved tickets to see Elvis Costello there next month and I've never sat there before.

SHC, I think every show can be set up differenly out there. I was out there for 2 shows last summer and neither had reserved seating. There is a pavered flat area just in front of the stage - like an apron. The lawn is ever so slightly on an incline.
I would imagine the seats they put up reserved seating are fine - they just limit the people that can try to squeeze into the area like they do in the general admission concerts.
Remember I told you about the Bela Fleck show and how during one of the warm up acts someone who'd plunked down their folding chair was having a hissy fit because two young girls were standing and rocking out to Marc Broussard? She even called security over. The girls agreed to sit down following Broussard so the woman relented. I LMAO when the next warm up act came along (Humphrey's Magee) and 100s of college kids from all over the place came flooding in and stood between rows of chairs that had been there over an hour. In that scenario - being further back might have been less of a hassle.
So I think OTB is saying that it can get pretty congested in the pavered part. I think it would be a totally different experience in the reserved set up though.
But I want to know what chair comes with a matching condom. :D

Thanks for answering the question, nccanes...but no.
Reserved seating is fine and I will get seats there sometimes-- if it's a big concert or if I know I will be late arriving due to work or something else. It's sometimes nice to be hassle free like that. However, while reserved seating gets you close to the stage and it's ok-- but it's on flat ground and sometimes sight lines are blocked by that guy with a hat or the woman with big hair. Seats are also pretty close together so beer runs/potty breaks/late arrivals can be a challenge. If I can get to Cary in decnt time, I'd just rather sit in GA where I can still see and not feel so squashed.
Additionally, with reserved seats, if you don't have a ticket, you're not getting through the folks in yellow shirts so no worry about troops storming the stage as described for Bela Fleck and Umphrey's Magee...

OMG! Do we ever think alike! I was wondering the same thing!!
And then I was wondering... I would REALLY like to meet the man that would need a condom THAT BIG!!!
Has anyone ever gone to see a show at the amphitheater at the Art Museum? I've always wondered what the sound's like there.

And yet somehow I knew exactly what OTB meant by the chair with the matching condom because I have one -- it's one of the captain's chairs from WalMart. My friends and I got them to watch rugby games and movies at the museum and when we're packing up to go, we always joke about re-sheathing our chairs. LOL.
