Anybody watching this? Its really good! I forgot to set my DVR, but I lucked up and caught it anyways.

This has made me a bigger fan of his than I ever was while he was racing.

CMW, thank you, thank you, thank you. I missed this last night but thanks to your post looked for a repeat and got to watch it tonight.

What a great feature. The combination of Dale’s own words, and interviews with the family and members of the racing world, was just outstanding. I think my favorite part was Brian Williams’ story about his son’s encounter with Dale at Talledega, and I really enjoyed Steve Park’s story about living at Dale’s house when he started his Winston Cup career.

The story ran the whole gamut of emotion for me. Dale was always my dad’s favorite driver, but I started out hating him because I did not like his style at all. I was at the Winston in Charlotte in 1987 and cursed him for what he did to Bill Elliott (my favorite driver at the time), and I also remember watching the Bristol race where he spun out Terry Labonte. By 1998 I was cheering him at Daytona though, because I really did want him to win there. The last time I saw him live and in person was at Richmond in September 2000 and clear as day I can see him and Dale Jr. racing side by side and I remember thinking at the time how special it was to watch the two of them race together. Little did I know then just how rare that sight would be.

That show reminded me how much I really enjoyed what NASCAR used to be and how much it has changed now that Dale is gone. I really miss those days, and I miss him too.

I think Mr nccanes watched some of it. My NASCAR experience totals attending the Winston once (the year the pedestrian bridge collapsed - we crossed it shortly before it collapsed and all commented on how the bridge was swaying).

Anyway - I wanted to comment on how Brian Williams acknowledgement and comments in the wake of Dale's death did NASCAR a great service I believe. I was never a Brian Williams fan, but thought his efforts to pay tribute to Dale were pretty impressive and gave NASCAR some nice credibility at the time.

Its totally worth it!

Speaking of Brian Williams. I was really touched by the story he told of his son meeting Dale. Brian's son asked Dale if he could touch his car before a race. Dale said that infact he needed him to touch the car so it would bring him good luck. Dale won the race and then in victory lane he let Brian's son hold the trophy up with him.

And that clip of Dale sitting on the window of his car driving with his foot reached over his windshield cleaning it off while going down pit road was hillarious!
