Ah well - a bad day on the roads in Ottawa I suppose. Sounds like they were both participants in some bad decision making (a different article said they were both gesturing towards each other after the "cutoff"), but I know I'd be scared as HELL if Ray Emery blocked my way with his Hummer and got out and approached my car!

OTTAWA -- Jean Therien says he feared for his life as the white Hummer he had accidentally cut off on the freeway Wednesday morning began jerking into his lane, forcing him to swerve to avoid it.

He says his heart raced when the Hummer stopped in front of him on an off- ramp and an enraged Ottawa Senators goalie Ray Emery got out of the truck and approached his car, yelling at him through the passenger side window.

"He started calling me 'You f---ing old bag of bones, you f---ing sh--'," said Therien, 65. "He said, 'You tried to put me in the ditch.' I said, 'No. I did not.' "

Therien says the enraged goalie stopped his verbal assault for a moment when he called him by his name.

"Then he said, 'Who the f--- are you?' " said Therien, adding that he told Emery the fact he owns a Hummer doesn't make him the king of the road. "His next words to me were 'Get the f--- out of your car you old f---er and I'll kill you.' "

Therien didn't get out of his car, but told Emery he was going to report the incident to the hockey club and the police, which he did.

"(Emery) then told me several times to f--- off," Therien said. "I didn't say a word. In the state of mind he was in, he was capable of doing just about anything at that point."

Therien says Emery then returned to his vehicle and drove away. Therien said he went straight to the Scotiabank Place to report the incident.

Contrary to other reports, Therien says he did not give Emery the finger after cutting him off.

An Ottawa police spokesman would neither confirm nor deny whether the incident is under investigation, but Therien said he filed a report.

"The (Senators) club is aware of the circumstances surrounding a personal incident yesterday morning involving Ray Emery," the club said in a release yesterday.

"We trust that Ray will address the issues to the satisfaction of the authorities."

Therien says he plans to sue Emery in civil court.

"I'm suing him for what he has put me through, the danger to my life and the danger to my health," said Therien, adding he had yet to contact a lawyer.

Would this fit under the "behavior that harms the NHL" rule? Fine could be a coming.

Considering that happens (getting cut off) in the Triangle and Charlotte on an almost daily basis, I couldn't see Emery ever playing for the Hurricanes...

nah, E... i'd be scared if he got out of his hummer and started walking toward me, laughing. Just ask Biron.

laughing or scowling, that's not the time that I'd want to encounter him...

I find that part to be fishy. Who knows what this guy did to provoke this, and then when he saw who it was the dollar signs starting flashing...

Not saying it didn't happen, but it may not have happened exactly the way Monsieur Therien says it did.

There's also a LOT of cases where people behind the wheel get utterly "set off" by not much of anything.

I'll never forget leaving a Canes game many years ago.. probably the first year at the RBC, because we didn't know that we wanted to park on the West side. After the game we were getting pushed out through the business area that leads to Blue Ridge. I had just let someone in (doing my duty, every other car), and some jerkhole in a big pickup was content on getting by me as his lane closed. I didn't let him.
He got in front of me when we hit 40, waited until he got up to speed, and jammed on his brakes in the middle of the highway. I'm talking going from 65 down to 10 in no time flat. Right in front of us. I couldn't shake him. Didn't really want him behind me either... but I slowed down, he slowed down, I changed lanes, he was right with me.
Eventually he gave up because I wasn't giving him any good opportunities to slam-brakes, run me off the road, etc.
Or maybe he was just afraid that we were calling the cops... which, I think Shell was.
All because he had to get by me in a merge, and I didn't let him.

You never know with people.

Since the guy mentioned that he shouldn't feel like he owns the road because he drives a Hummer, makes you wonder if he didn't purposely cut RE off just to prove a point. I have major road rage because of idiots. I can totally under where Ray is coming from! :D
