The beer and scenery at the mellow mushroom are great (being into the dead, etc as we are) but I am a freak and don't like pizza or sandwiches so their food sucks! LOL :p

This is off-topic, i know, but do you happen to like Phish?

I'm definitely into Phish.. saw them almost a decade ago (god how the time flies) and have seen them 50 or 60 times since. You a fan?? Going to the show on the 27th here? They'll be on HBO on Friday night -- "Phish and Phish fans are featured on a short segment this Friday night on "On the Record with Bob Costas". The show interviewed the band and filmed footage out in the lot and onstage last week at Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, CA. "On the Record" airs at 11:30 PM EST on HBO Friday July 18."

I also have a Timbrho! license plate on our ride. hehe

I started summer 95, have done a full summer tour (97), many 4-8 show runs, and have seen around 60 shows. *wanders off singing The Boys are Back in Town"

sorry for the continued OT-ness. I expect I'll get a lashing from one of the mods. http://tridead.net/canes/images/smilies/naughty.gif

No but my husband loves them and he doesn't have anyone to go to the concert with! He's tried so hard to get me to like them, and i'm slowly coming around. The only song i really like is "Bouncing around the room".

Jaro - Go to a show and you'll have a blast (as long as strange and unusal cultures don't bother you).. I didn't really like them before I saw them either, but after that first show I was converted :)You should go, I bet you'll have a good time.. even if you get bored with the 'noodling', the people watching is never better LOL

went to my first show after not being sure if I'd enjoy it or not... had only listened to a couple of cd's (dozens of times) before that.

planned on doing the one show, and getting back to life. walked out of that show feeling something I'd never felt before. called out "sick" for the following 6 days and hit the next 4 shows in 5 different states. :D

being there is the Only way to get a feel at how damn good those guys are. though it was easier to see back in the mid 90's, when they would do Keyboard Army or something, where they all rotate instruments throughout the song. They all play every instrument in the band (and some others, like a Theramin, an old 60's Electrolux vacuum, etc..) so watching them switch is quite fun. If you get lucky you'll get one of the songs where Trey breaks in the middle to tell a story. Quite the storyteller he is.

Well, I am slowly trying! I just can't get past the songs he used to play for me, about getting a woman with a cleaver and putting her in the freezer?

I did watch a special on them on CBS Sunday morning about a year ago and it did show how amazingly talented they are. They also go into middle/high? schools and help teach the kids music. Pretty cool guys.

that thread had been properly hijacked... so I moved this out of it ;)

yes JF- quite a few songs have Very silly lyrics... which is what makes it hard for most people to get into them. Most of phish is about the music though... they lyrics are something to add to the grin on your face. ;)

the song you're referring to is Tweezer. which doesn't have any cleaver references in it... just tweezers. hehe

example of a song that is really an instrumental. they just added some silly words to make the title... and to entertain those people who aren't as into instrumentals.

Won't you step into the freezer
Seize her with a tweezer

Won't you step into the freezer
Tease her with a tweezer

It's gonna be cold cold cold cold cold (4x)

Won't you step into the freezer
Please her with a tweezer

Won't you step into the freezer
Please her with a tweezer

It's gonna be cold cold cold cold cold (4x)

Look who's in the freezer
Uncle Ebenezer

and for kicks, here's the epitome of silly phish:

Weigh
I'd like to cut your head off so I could weigh it, what do ya say?
Five pounds, six, pounds, seven pounds
I'd like to go to your house and gather all your razors and pick all the
little prickly hairs so I can weigh them, what do ya say?
Five pounds, six pounds, seven pounds
I'd like to gather all your friends and squish them all into a small
swimming pool so I can weigh them, what do ya say?
Five pounds, six pounds, seven pounds
Why weigh on a sunny day?
So much to do so why, why weigh?
On a sunny day, why wei-igh-hey?
Why weigh, why weigh?
I'd like to hear my options, so I can weigh them, what do ya say?
Five pounds, six pounds, seven pounds
Why weigh on a sunny day?
So much to do, so why, why weigh?
On a sunny day, why wei-gh-hey?
Why
Oh Why[x11]
Why weigh?

You will be sorry you brought this topic up. lmao.

here's a very good, non-silly song:

Silent in the Morning
My glance is always darting, when I stroll the avenue
Avoiding all the obstacles that terrorize my view
If you are here with me, I trust you to lead the way
When you're not I follow you, and always go astray

Silent in the morning
Suspended in the trees
Lunch time comes you've found your voice
It brings me to my knees
The volume just increases
The resounding echoes grow
Till once again I bask in morning stillness, I love so

The target that I shoot for seems to move with every breath
I tighten all my arteries and make one last request
Divine creation hears me, and he squashes me with fear
I think that this exact thing happened to me, just last year

Silent in the morning
You found your voice that brings me to
Silent in the morning
You found your voice that brings me to
Silent in the morning
You found your voice that brings me to my knees
I will not dismiss you, shelter you, speak with you
Smile at you, trust in me, He'd like to brush you off, and I'd agree

That is another song that i do like! I like one of their silly songs, about "when you're there, i sleep lengthwise". That's cute

while we're on it... Guyute:

Guyute was the ugly pig
who walked on me and danced a jig
that he had learned when he was six
then stopped and did some other tricks

like pulling weapons from his coat
and holding them against my throat
he lectured me in a language strange
and scampered quickly out of range

I'm bouncing like a newborn elf
I can't remain inside myself
Guyute glances in my eyes
and manages to hypnotize

me as I sleep the sleep of death
he suck from me my only breath
that I had breathed since I was ten
I hope this happens once again

yep, that is cute. another 40 second song about how a guy sleeps when his woman is/isn't there. what's the point? lol. i love it.

"and when you're gone, I sleep diagonal in my bed"
