This was posted on fanhome, but Jim said to feel free to post here:

I am having another open forum with Chuck next Tuesday the 22nd at 8pm at Blinco's. He will give his usual unique insight on the Canes and anything to do with hockey and will be taking questions from anyone on anything you care to ask. Blinco's is at the corner of Falls of Neuse and Millbrook in North Raleigh for those of you who have not been there. Thanx and hope to see you there, Jim (former Raleighpig )

He added that:
this is a very informal Q@A. Chuck will probably talk for a half an hour to 45 minutes then answer questions for another hour or so. Feel free to post this elsewhere. Thanx and see you Tuesday, Jim

Yes, it is... and we have something on every single day/night through the 28th... meaning that adding Chuck's deal in there would effectively eliminate any 'downtime' for a full week. (which sucks, imo. lol)

Ohhhhh, I COMPLETELY misinterpreted Shell's post. I was thinking she thought it was not this Tuesday but next Tuesday based on the wording in the first post and that she was busy until then. I was thinking she would be unpleasantly surprised if she showed up there next Tuesday only to find no Kaiton! ;)

I feel stupid now.

lol, no reason to feel stupid folg... you were just making sure we didn't miss it. ;)

Thanks folg... my writing usually throws people off and is misinterpreted... thanks for looking out for us!

Did anyone go besides me, Canesluver, Cam or Hyena? I thought is was well worth the time and fairly interesting.

Highlights for me...

Irbe - still not out of the picture. We can't really trade him and we're still paying his salary. If the goaltenders don't perform as expected or if there is an injury we could see Irbe again.

What about that left wing - left wing is the hardest position to fill for any club. They are going to have to be creative to fill that position - ONeil has played it in the past as have some others. They may need to make a trade. Kaiton was very nebulous about this one .

Mo - management has been very patient with Mo but if the Canes don't come out strong the first part of the season- Mo may very well be gone.

Markov - was this a big screw or a little screw? This is yet to be seen. Kaiton felt that JR should have done more homework on that one. As it stands we still have Markovs rights and if he ever wants to play in the NHl again, he may have to come crawling back and accept 1mil.

Thats enough for now don't you think? Any particular questions I would be happy to entertain.. ;-). Or please jump in if you were there.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!

Look, I won't turn this into an Irbe bash (nor will I watch it happen), cause it's not about that. My prob here is that this is a BIG effing mistake. It's obvious (to me) that Weekes and Irbe don't feed off of each other like some tandems do. It won't work. And the 'tude that Irbe has brought to the table would make most of the team (especially Weekes) Very awkward if he came back. Criminy JR... do whatever you can and WHEEL the dude already.

oh, and thanks for the update Guin :D

No problem and I couldn't agree more. My comfort in having Weekes in goal (and he is by far not my favorite player) was that at least the Irbe drama wasn't going to mess with his head. With this possibility still out there who knows how this is going to effect him..... I would love to see Irbe back in form and playing but not with us. That boats has pretty much sailed unless something really wacky happens with the dynamics.

nice recap, guin.

i'll add a few things...

injury report: brindy is fine -- contrary to apparent rumor (?? i guess i'm out of the loop) and is still working on his hand. erik will be 100% by the beginning of the season. the bad news is jesse -- they're still wait-and-see with him. i'm paraphrasing here- "when he is better he could very well have a limited role, he can still be intimidating even if he can't be an enforcer, and he has shown before that fighting was not all he could do."

chuck also was very high on eric staal, saying not to be surprised if he ends up making the club, that it would be a very good opportunity for him to learn from Ronnie. he also said if we were to improve this year that Ronnie might end up having a more diminished role than in the past -- that he should not be the best player on the team.

um....somebody asked him to pick his lines and he had Ronnie, O, and Vrbata on the first line, Brindy, Cole and Bayda on the second and mentioned Murray, Adams, Adams on the third, and who knows for the fourth -- maybe a Czech line, it all depends....

overall it was very entertaining and informative...i had a good time. :spin:

now, i just want the season to start!! :D

Okay Guin, just make sure you don't share this with Weekes. I won't if you won't. Maybe it can be a big ol' secret!

Thanks for the updates ladies. I really like Chuck's lines. Interesting that he thought Staal could make the club but yet he is not mentioned in a line. If he is going to be a fourth-liner I would rather he get meaningful playing time in Lowell instead.

Someone with more brainpower can correct me, but I believe due to his age, it's either the Canes or back to Juniors. I don't think Lowell is an option.

Exactly Vandy. As much as I want to see Staal get in time with the very player they say he is projected to be like, what's the point if he gets put on the third or fourth line? And as good as Staal may be, I really don't want to see him rushed into the NHL. But hey, didn't Ronnie immediately play in the NHL right after he was drafted? If Staal is similar to Ronnie like they say, then maybe he is ready...but I'd prefer to be safe and put him in Lowell/Juniors if he doesn't prove to be first or second line material in training camp.

Thanks for the updates, I wish I could have attended.

I get a bit queasy when people start talking about the Adams family being on the 3rd line. Don't get me wrong, you couldn't find a nicer guy than Kevyn Adams and his work ethic is 2nd to none, even to Brind'amour from what I have seen. At some of the practices I watched last year, he was doing pushups on the ice while others were taking a quick break. BUT, the guy had a career year last year and scored 9 goals. Craig Adams scored 6. We must have more production from our 3rd line if we are going to get out of the NHL basement next year. In my opinion, they are both premier 4rth line players, They provide high energy, but little scoring and they shouldn't be expected to carry the offensive load.

Anyway, if Mo would roll 4 lines fairly equally for most of the game, and play the hot players more toward the end of the game, it probably wouldn't matter who plays on whatever line, but that hasn't happened much here in Carolina yet. I hope it does next year.

From everything I have read and heard, including this, really makes me wonder just how serious Jesse's head injury was!!

i got the impression from chuck's comments that he really thought staal was going to be surprising, and end up being kind of a wild card as far as where he would end up fitting in line-wise. his line of reasoning seemed to be that if staal shows in camp he can do something then why not bring him up here, that supposedly the talent he has will be quickly enhanced by playing at this level and with players like ronnie and brindy and there is no sense not to use him. that even if he starts off on the fourth line, with his ability, he could quickly earn more ice time.

i'm looking forward to possibly seeing this kid play. :D

Good question nccanes about Lowell vs. the Juniors. I had not thought about that. Certainly another year of Junior hockey would not seem to make much sense if he is that good. I am really looking forward to training camp! :D

The feeling I got from Chuck re: Boulerice

He thinks it's not health as much as confidence. Going down on one punch, and being hurt from that for so long may have shaken his confidence. He thinks there's a question about whether or not he'll ever be as fierce. He equated it to being in a bad car accident, and then for a long period you avoid having to cross that intersection again.

Someone also asked him about Hereema. He said he has a really low-key personality and needs to be more agressive, if he wants to win a spot. He made it sound like more of a locker room thing, than a skill issue.

He seemed happy about Tanabe being gone. When someone asked him if we got "screwed" on the Markov trade he said, "Well, we didn't give up much!" And speaking of defense, he hopes Ward will come to camp more determined to be more physical, and he thought the 7th spot could be a flip-flop between Wallin and St. Jacques. He thinks Malec needs more time in the minors.

I enjoy Chuck. I think I could listen to him talk for hours. He did say he was going to have another gab fest before/during the preseason game schedule.

I would be more concerned about other teams finding out. Picture it... running great guns for Weekes with the puck. Weekes is set. Just at the critical moment someone shouts "Irbe" - Weekes loses it and the puck goes in the net.
