That would be the last time I ever wore That wetsuit, regardless if I got out alive!

I wonder if that is photoshopped. Either way, that is a sweet picture.

I'm glad the only swimming I'm doing this summer is in pool water or Lake Ontario. I've always been chicken when it comes to ocean water (do...not...like...sharks... ), but I've seem to gotten over it for the most part.
If that were me on the surfboard, I'd die of fright.

Origins: The photograph displayed above is indeed real, but it doesn't depict the hair-raising scene most viewers think it does.

This picture was taken by photographer Kurt Jones on 9 April 2003 at Surfrider Beach in Malibu, one of California's premier surfing beaches. But as the version of the photograph posted on the web indicates, however, the ominous-looking finned creature lurking just beneath the surface of the waves is a dolphin (possibly a bottlenose), not a shark.

OK, I feel a little better.

I'd still be dead if it were me because I wouldn't have thought that, even if someone told me.

If you look close you can tell it is not a shark. If you have n eye for that sort of thing. The tail and nose are the big giveaways for me.

It reminds me of something my father did when I was a kid. We were surf casting in the Pensacola Bay. He would walk out to a sand bar cast the line out and walk it back to the beach. One time he started yelling at me all excited and pointing at this shadow in the water near him. And I see what it was, clearly a shark and it looked big to me, slowly moving toward him. He was acting like a kid in a candy store with a hundred dollar bill and I'm yelling at him to get out of the water. Been fascinated with those things ever since.

Pretty amazing picture though.

Nice picture indeed, but yes, that is definitely a dolphin's fin and not a shark's. Was getting ready to post a link to ze Snopes.com article 'til I saw Shell beat me to it. (Just got back from getting a filling done...and as Pink Floyd would say, my jaw is comfortably numb. ;)) Good work. :)

Note to self: Next trip to beach, bring Shell, Stormbringer, and rkbrasse as shark patrol.
Any other volunteers?

Wow...that's pretty cool.

Good to know it's a dolphin and not a shark, though. :eek2:

Even better to be that close to a dolphin...they are such cool creatures...every November at Myrtle Beach, they are always playing in the ocean....very cool to see them! :)

Whoa!!! I wouldn't have peed, screamed or done anything! I would have just sat there with my mouth open, unable to move, until the wave came down and pummelled me.

And I wouldn't have been able to tell if it was a dolphin, either!
