Caniac, normally I would just send you a PM but I thought I'd post here in case anyone else is having similar issues.

I haven't changed my User Profile recently other than to change (and change back) my avatar. But all of a sudden, I can't see locations anymore when I'm viewing threads. Also, I have PM pop-up notification set up, and it's not working anymore, I just happened to look up in the right hand corner and catch the unread flag.

I checked my User Profile and everything is enabled. Any ideas? Anyone else having similar issues?

I use IE 6.0, if that matters.

Thanks!

Yep, Locations are gone. Did a quick look to see if there was a flag for it that got unchecked or something, but didn't come across one. (Not that I spent much time, don't have much atm)

I have no idea about the notifications thing. I'll have to look at it.

I turned the locations off, because there were quite a few that were very long strings, and it was making some people's posts really wide and throwing the formatting off.

The locations are supposed to be about where you are, ie "Raleigh, NC" not "In the middle of the desert watching the Canes game on a generator powered satellite tv and hoping Staal get's a hat trick and Joe Blow wins a lawn tractor courtesy of the Hurricanes and John Deere".

that sucks. I know I used mine for miscellaneous phrases because we couldn't have signatures. oh well.

Well the status message can do the same thing. Those that have made a donation get that feature.

I'll look into what we can do with a signature, we just didn't like the bigass ones people use on other boards with photos and crap that show everytime they post over and over again and makes threads really long top to bottom...

Maybe we can restrict images in signatures and let that be the replacement for the location. It would wrap instead of making the width all wonky.

I'll look into it.

I have no idea about the notifications thing. I'll have to look at it.

The notification thing just happened today so it could have been a fluky timing issue between the time the PM was sent and when the notification was going to pop up. Because the location thing was already on my mind, seemed a good time to file a report.

If someone wants to send me a PM, I'll check and see if it really is a problem or was a one-time issue.

I thought locations capped out at a certain number of digits? It definitely used to because I remember trying something that was too long once. Maybe that was the old board, though.

Anyway, not that you're taking votes but, I vote locations over signatures. Although I think that depends on where the signature is. The location is up with the user name so, it isn't easy to mistake it for part of the post.

Just my 2 cents!

I thought it capped out too. I remember having to spell something a certain way because the real way wouldn't work.

Either way, I guess I should be happy my location can say "Raleigh, NC" (although I wouldn't mind if it said 15 min from the RBC :D

Oh, god, NO... please..... I hate those things.

(if I have a vote on the matter )

yeah I can't stand the sigs either!
I guess the Location problem was a firefox thing? i don't recall it ever happening on my end.

I sent Guyute a PM this morning - i'm wondering if it's working, I haven't heard anything!

I only ever use firefox, and I keep the window a little smaller during the day and certain people's Locations being so long made their post's really wide, so therefore it made the formatting screwed up.

It also looked terrible on a Windows Mobile phone, as well as on an iPhone.

I prefer the location over the signature, and admit I'm one of the violaters who uses it for creative (or not so creative) messages. Locations are in the header so they stay neat and tidy. I think signatures eat up too much additional real estate and disrupt the flow of being able to actually read posts.

But, regarding signatures, if they're chosen over locations and folks don't like to see 'em, the good news is they can be suppressed via your user profile options.

The pop-up works for me, I did have to tell my pop-up blocker to let pop-ups from this site pop-up though!

pop-up works fine for me. JaroFan, sorry for the delay. Busy weekend, and to top it off, it seems both my and Shell's laptop shorted out. No laptops all weekend was odd...

As for sigs, I kind of like them and don't. I like them because I enjoy making sig graphics. I do it all the time. Some for a particular mood I'm in, some related to a current game I'm playing... etc. But yeah, when you read a board where people post 30x a day, it's excessive. I liked the Locations. I never had problems on standard sized screens. If I have to scroll on a laptop, well, I chalk it up to being a 15" screen. It happens on tons of pages. Part of dealing with a laptop...
until I get one that has an 18" widescreen. But then I'll be scrolling vertically all day long. :p
