View Full Version : Restaurants On Thanksgiving Day?

My mother and her husband are coming to visit for Thanksgiving. We've discussed it and realized that I will not have the time to do any type of cooking for Thanksgiving (nor the money, nor the space, nor the equipment) so...I'm looking for a nice restaurant (not Cracker Barrel!!!) that will be open on Thanksgiving day, possibly serving a Thanksgiving dinner. Preferably in the Raleigh/Wake Forest/Cary Area.
Anyone heard or seen any of these?

I'm sorry I've left you to them on your own. :(

If you're not limited to traditional thanksgiving food, I know that many oriental and Indian restaurants are generally open on the holiday. Nothing says "thank you" like a meal of Chicken Tikka Masala and fresn naan. I highly recommend Royal India on Capital for a higher-class Indian meal.
If you do want traditional food...I hate to say it, but my first reflex when I saw the thread name was Cracker Barrel!

Got Reservations at the Top of the Tower in the Clarion Hotel. $15.95 for their buffet!!!!! And it sounds delish!! And the best part, I don't have to cook or clean anything

We are doing dinner at the Angus Barn for the 2nd yr in a row, however I think they are sold out.
We have done one of the holiday meals you can get at Lowe's grocery store before and they are actually pretty good and you get a good amount of food as well. You take it home and heat it up. Not sure if Harris Teeter has anything like that or not for Thanksgiving.

I believe Carver's Creek does Thanksgiving dinner, but I've never been there and I haven't been over that way in a while, so I don't even know if it's open.
Ah-ha! I thought Citysearch usually had something like this. http://triangle.citysearch.com/roundup/38070/
Also, peep through this Sunday's paper paper. Usually there are ads -- I want to say in the Arts & Entertainment section -- for restaurants that specifically mention their Thanksgiving dinner.

Yeah, that's where I started since its just right down the road and found out they were sold out. I'm thinking that's one you'd need to definitely call early. I'd like to try that out one year
^kermelbar...totally forgot about Carver's Creek.

I went there years ago when it was still a Holiday Inn. The food was very good and most of all I remember the awesome pecan pie with homemade cream on top. Enjoy!

I'm not the greatest cook (and really don't have much time to do it), but I would NEVER serve any pie w/o REAL whipped cream. Seriously, NEVER. :)
(and it's really not hard to do and makes a WORLD of difference!)

I haven't been there for Thanksgiving... but, Carver's Creek is one of my favorite places to get a good meal. A little on the pricey side for a standard night out... but they make a mean filet with an outstanding whiskey peppercorn sauce. Hmmm... think I need to go soon... lol

I just KNEW there had to be a reason why we get along so well! ;) My grandma taught me how to make whipped cream when I was teenager (sweeten w/powdered sugar, and add a dash of vanilla).
Anytime I've made a pie to bring to a dinner or whatever, I can't tell you how many people have, like, oo'd and ahh'd over the fact that I made real whipped cream instead of bringing along a tub of good 'ole Cool Whip.

EXACTLY!
I've never used powdered sugar, just granulated and then some vanilla. If I'm not in the same place as my Mom, it's my tradition to call her and along with telling her Happy Thanksgiving I ask here how much of each (sugar and vanilla) to add before I whip it.
I remember seeing a Martha Stewart interview on some talk show and they were talking about how everyone must be so nervous to host her at their homes for a dinner because she's so perfect at entertaining/cooking. She happened to mention that she'd gone to Barbra Streisand's home for a meal recently and how it was "lovely". The interviewer kind of pressed her on if she was just being nice. She finally admitted that they had angel food cake with fresh strawberries for dessert but that she'd used Cool Whip.

I like Cool Whip..but I know Martha was curling her lip. I hope they had the sense not to pass the plastic tub.. Martha would have fainted.
I have never made homemade cream.. but I just might have to try it now. The only thing better than the cream is ice cream. :)

This thread reminds me of a great song from a movie! Even though its not Christmas time yet I'll get the chorus...

We're off to the Umstead Hotel's restaurant-- Herons. They have a Thanksgiving Buffet during the day and then are doing something different for dinner. I have been wanting to go see what the hotel is like and didn't want the fuss of a big dinner at home, so the two came together...

I had never watched that movie all the way through until the Canes gave us the trip to Norfolk during the lockout. Going up we saw Miracle (cried) and on the way back, we saw Christmas Story and Christmas Vacation. Most people were asleep on the way home but I was laughing my arse off at those two movies.

This year is the first year I have to prepare thanksgiving ever being a single daddy. And I'm sticking with the pig! (Piggly Wiggly is making my thanksgiving dinner :) )
Although a restaurant tradition sounds nice too :)
And I bought my kitchen aide stand mixer just to have home made whipped cream for my pecan pies. (made with steens sugar syrup, just like Emeril does at his restaurants.)

Mona, you are usually known for making the pies. I'll put one aside just for you for all your pie donations of the past :)
You better watch out though. Women have fallen in love with me just based on my cooking. Then they can't get me out of their heads. Then they give up watching hockey all together. Then they beg me for pecan pie for the rest of their lives. Then they fall depressed when they can't get the pies as often as they wished. Then they start a ladies thread based on guys who bake pie.

I have baked a lemon meringue pie or two. :( :) One of them brought on an OT win! ;)
Well I have never had a man bake a pie for me. But since you warned me, I will stay away.. I don't want to have to start a Ladies' Thread based on my broken heart and a belly full of pecans. ;)

Good decision. Piegasms are just too powerful a tool to throw around loosely.

I told you I wasn't giving you any more of those drugs for your pies this year.
:p
And you're not kidding, Cam. My Kitchen Aid changed my life. People don't get that, but it's for real. I even bought a Kitchen Aid fridge....it's not so awe-inspiring as the mixer, though.

You know-- I have a kitchenaid, but I find it so bulky and heavy to get out of the cabinet, that I don't use it as much as I thought I would. I find myself still pulling out my 20-year-old hand mixer from the drawer! I just like the way it feels in my hand. :)

Now you know, in addition to its function, a KitchenAid mixer is also a work of art, so it can be proudly and prominently displayed on your countertop at all times!
Real whip Cream is like Real Maple Syrup.
No substitute. ( I am biased being from VT).
This year will make my 17th year making Thnaksgiving dinner.
Always have real Whipped Cream.

Well.... my countertop space is pretty limited... and..... I got tired of having to dust it (it was an excellent dust/dog hair collector)!!
But don't listen to me, anyway. There's 2+ week-old mail, and old N&O's laying on the top of our stove, which shows how often we actually cook in our house!
