Wow - I really bought those Wolfpack ads on the JT at Canes games....talk about overrated I guess.

"Overrated"? LOL. I don't think we've ever been "overrated" by anyone except a segment of our own fanbase that buys into self-invented hype and blows it up exponentially before the season even starts.

We're not a good team. That's all there is to it.

Oh - I thought they were preseason ranked or something. Isn't that what the ad on the JT said? Maybe not.

I did enjoy the Herb article in the N/O this week. Seems like everyone is happy with how things worked out in that deal. Loved the "Herbivore" shirts the students wear. Cracked me up reading that Herb roamed the student section at football games with a bullhorn.

Oh, that's what you were referring to. One of the polls had us at like #24 at the beginning of the season. Most of us never really understood why.

Yeah, I never thought NCSU was that good either. Now if we had beat ECU, yeah, that would have been like App State beating Mich.

well, the good news is, everyone makes the ACC tournament, so we can jsut get it all together by then and win it this time

The only time I watch ACC basketball at all (ok, most of the screens at Blinco's had the NCSU/ECU game on and I snuck a peek every now and then when commercials were on during the Canes game)

And that's the whole point from an ECU fan. We are always looked down apon and are expected to lose. When we play in-state rivals like NC State and win, yes we enjoy it and might give it to you State fans, but at the same time we are expected to lose before we even start the game. We are in a lower conference and beating an ACC team is like beating a "high" up team. It's like when the media was saying the Canes had no way of winning throughout the playoffs in 2002 and how mad we all got and wanted to win so much more bad because of it. It's not about if NC State is better or not, it's just the fact when we do win big in-state games like this it's like climbing a big mountain of adversity and finally winning...:) I try to keep college sports talk out of this (not a big fan anyway) because this is a hockey board and I enjoy hockey talk a hell of a lot more instead of college fans bashing each other, especially when we all go to Canes games together..:D

Yup - sports are about those moments. Sure ECU won't win a NCAA title, but if that's the only mark of success or joy, then I guess there's no point in playing a season is there?

Normally I'd just skim an ACC b-ball article and look for player/coach quotes (actually do that for most sports articles), but I read this entire one. Seemed like quite a special night in Gville.

State was definitely highly regarded heading into this season. *Many* publications and sites had their frontcourt among the best in the country. The issue is in no way talent ... there's huge amounts of friction concerning playing time. Costner plays at about 40 percent most of the time, and McCauley's energy has been deflated by playing behind Hickson. On top of all that, Grant's the lone senior and not a true leader. This is definitely the first true test for Lowe as NCSU head coach.

No matter how bad things get, they'll never be as bad as the single worst half of basketball I have ever seen in my entire life: 10 points in the first against St. John's in '04.

That's what I was going to ask/bring up.

I was kind of surprised to see their playing time issues so publically discussed so early in the season (or at all really).

Will be interesting to watch...
