Hopefully this makes him wake up and be the kind of player that he can be...get some time in Albany, showcase yourself, prove you can do it.

This will actually help the guy in the long run, I think.

Just a hunch. :D

Yup - he's got something to prove down there....can go either way I suppose.

Yep... a defining bit of time for him I think. Grab the chance and show your hunger... or... Brendl it.

PLEASE Laddy, make it the former.

Thank GOD. I've wrestled with this for a couple months so enough of that; and let him stay there for awhile. 4th line duty does him no good. Period.

Ladd should look only to his former partner in crime/linemate on the CGY Hitmen and star on the rise, Ryan Getzlaf for 'inspiration' in this matter. Getzlaf AND Corey Perry were both sent down to Portland/AHL during the year we won it all for about 6-8 weeks, and were recalled and they just blossomed. They were both like Ladd, not playing well to get minutes, then alternatiing one in the press box and one on the 4th line, and Carlisle & Burke decided to send them both back to the A. Egos hurt, blah, blah, and they both said screw it, we're gonna get back to ANA. I should've saved the article from one of the Orange County papers on the whole journey they documented it all in this article, and both guys have OBVIOUSLY benefitted from it.

There is no shame in playing in the AHL. He will do fine if he decides like Getzlaf and Perry that he can do this at this level and mean it every night, and prove to the coaches that he's good for that.

The first thought that popped into my mind was "who we making room for".

Seriously though, this is probably the best thing for the kid. I like the kid and think he's got potential, but I think the org rushed him a bit. This will do nothing but make him better IMO.

yeah, thats about what i was getting it. See, after what g33 said regarding forslunds comment, there's two ego dings that could come out of it.

a)sending a message that they're tired of him phoning it in, and knock him down a peg... which I really really could see that being the case... He won a Stanley Cup as a rookie, it takes a special kind of guy to not let it go to your head too much. And honestly, i think it might have a little.
b)it's none of that, and he's putting in honest effort and still gets sent down. and as a result gets frustrated.

It's all going to be what he makes of it, but in the long run, it should help him. He might be a bit more humble and work harder realizing that he's still got to earn that spot, and it should give him more minutes. Like socal said, look at Getzlaf

It's the right move. But, now what?

This should have happened a long time ago.

Are they making room for somebody? He doesn't have to clear waivers to come back up does he?

This is where Ladd should have been all year. Playing on the 4th line here only hurts his long-term development. Being "THE guy" in Albany should only bring him up to where he ought to be, re: Perry & Getzlaf.

I wish him all the best, but I hope he's there for a long stint.

He should have gone to Albany when he came off IR. A move to Albany shouldn't damage his ego-- what should hurt it is the fact Tanabe was pulling more ice time than Ladd. If anything, Ladd will regain his playing form and get the confidence to skate on the 2nd or 3rd line.

No, he's still on his entry contract, so no waivers.

According to NHL.com the assignment is a 4 game conditioning assignment. I am curious if that can be increased to longer if necessary without having to jump through any hoops.

he's on his entry contract, he can come and go as the team pleases (with the exception of not allowing a move within a certain number of days after the previous move)

At least he won't Babchuk it

Seriously, I hope it gives him the practice he needs to get back into the top 9 and regain that force in front of the net.

If Ladd drives some scoring and is combined with Leighton's recent goaltending, Albany should rock. (At least for four games if the conditioning notes are correct)

I will miss his grit but hopefully this will make him a stronger player. Nothing makes them hungrier than to play a few weeks/months in the AHL and realize how good they have it in the "big time". Unless of course you are Babchuk or Brendl. :D

I think Andrew has a good work ethic and this will be a tremendous benefit for him.

Ladd played tonight, no goals, no assists, no shots, no pims, even +/-. Don't have ice time numbers.

Bayda, however, had a 3 pt night (1 G/2 A) and Aucoin 2 pts (1 G/ 1 A).

Casey Borer was the 1st star (2 G/ 1 A/ 1 fight) and Peters got the win (stopping 28 of 31).

from I can tell, it looks like Ladd was supposed to play with Bayda and Aucoin, as they were the starting forward line. But who knows how long that lasted....

yeah - here's the other summary, that shows he was on the ice (and PP) with Bayda and Aucoin for goals they scored.

Times Union article about Ladd's arrival.

Some great quotes from Rowe and Ladd and mentions the impact on the existing players that a move like this makes (Dwyer demoted and Gove scratched).

Ladd has been recalled and will be available for Tuesday night's game. Guess he isn't playing for the Rats tonight like expected.

A big opportunity for him to show that he belongs in the Top 6 on this team or if he needs to be our trade bait.

The Hurricanes recalled Andrew Ladd today, ending the forward's stint in Albany (AHL) quicker than expected.

Ladd will be available for Tuesday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays.

In two games with the River Rats, Ladd scored a goal — the overtime winner Friday.

Ladd hadn't been getting much playing time with the Canes and was sent to Albany to get more ice time. But a potential serious injury to Cory Stillman on Saturday seems to have changed the Canes' plans.

The Top 3 signs that neither the Carolina Hurricanes nor the NHL get respect from AP

#3 Jason Williams of the Carolina Hurricanes
#2 Jason Ward of the Carolina Hurricanes
#1 The NHL Toronto Blue Jays (or is the Blue Leafs like the sweaters, I get confused...maybe the Maple Jays?...so many teams and sports to keep track of)

Unfortunately that wasn't an AP mistake, it was an error made by the Canes alternate beat writer Rachel Carter.

Luke deleted the original post and added this to his update on Stillman:
The Canes have recalled Andrew Ladd, who wasn't able to finish his four-games-in-five-nights stint with Albany (AHL) because of the flu. He sat out Saturday and would not have been able to play Sunday.

After hearing about how bad it's affected the Rats, I really hope he doesn't come back to Raleigh and get everybody sick. Maybe we should quarantine him for a few days first.

IceSun

Well, she has been covering college non-revenue sports. It takes a while to learn all these pro teams ;)

I hereby apologize to AP for saying they insult the NHL through their lack of careful editing. They only insult the Canes...:smoke:

^^ Quarantine would be nice. There's already enough going around in this area without bringing in outside bugs. lol

It really sucks Ladd went down for a conditioning stint, which he's partly missed because of the flu... and then called up early. Not much conditioning there....

he has the worst luck with regards to nagging injury and illness. he needs to take his vitamins or something!

So what happening with Ladd since Sillman is feeling well?

Ladd's probably out because he picked up the flu in Albany.

It's not just a "conditioning" thing. The same thing happened last season. Ladd has been no doubt taken aside and told that he needs to step up the effort if he wants a spot on the roster. I would guess that Craig Adams doesn't have too much time left before he is dealt with. Ditto with Letowski.

nccanes
12-17-2007, 02:20 PM
?? Craig and Letowski have played two good games recently. They are 4th liners, what do you expect from them? Hell, they'd both have another few points if Ryan Bayda hadn't decided to fight right when we were scoring in that game last month?
