so whats your guys take on the mitchell report?
me, personally it really really sucks. I read the list of names, and there were quite a few that were guys that I liked watching growing up. Some have been saying ok, it was the past lets put it behind us, which is fine for those who didnt grow up rooting for these guys. :(

They're already calling it the worst scandal to hit the sport since the Black Sox.
It's going to be a long time before baseball recovers from this.

Quite messed up. Dykstra was one of them that got me. I almost remember him having a year where he came out a lot more solidly built than he used to be. But I was young enough at the time that I really wouldn't have known that it was 'roids. Was a big fan though. And some of those other guys too.
Baseball has already been through a lot. This definitely isn't going to endear people to it.

Dykstra is the one that hit me the hardest. He was my favorite player next to Nolan Ryan. I grew up in the wrong time in regard to baseball. I was too young to fully understand the strike (not that it would have made me feel better), and now everything i knew is like a fraud.
After i saw his name, i definitely went... "yeah, i could see that".
My dad pointed out two names that surprised him. Todd Hundley and David Justice. gotta agree with him there.
(and why did i post this in college sports  )

What a disappointment. I think of all the kids and adults that look up to these guys as heroes ..and then they crap on the fans and the game by doing this. I am very surprised about David Justice. Rocker must have been juicing several times a day with his temper.

Makes me glad that the worst thing hockey has to deal with on a widespread scale (so far) is Red Bull and decongestants.

Mark Prior is a huge surprise, since he's so scrawny. Kerry Wood got noticeably bigger and I had been wondering about him, but Prior really got me. I'm glad there weren't a lot of Cubs on the list, but the list itself is so long I have wonder how many never got caught and how long the actual list is...
My heros were in the 80's and early 90's though before most of this mess. Ryne Sandberg, Cal Ripken Jr., those guys.
I'm sure a lot were into stuff they shouldn't have been in those days but not on this kind of scale. It really is bad for the kids though. You try to instill the "hard work is the way to achieve anything, especially greatness" mentality and then all they see in a lot of professional sports is cheating.

heh. not surprised about Clemens.
Come on...some guy is going to go to jail for trafficing the stuff, and drops names to save his own butt. Until there's proof, I'll believe that he didn't take anything...for NOW anyways! :P
Then if/when he's found guilty, I'll accept that I was wrong... ;)

Time for the conspiracy theory:
George Mitchell is a member of the Boston Red Sox ownership group. As we all know this report has been ready for a few weeks to be released. There were no current Red Sox listed in the report. If the report had been released one week ago there would have been one, Eric Gagne....coincidence......I THINK NOT!!!!!!

I see some former RedSox on that list too. And as was pointed out on another board, Mitchell got a lot of his information from sources that were in--TA DA!--New York. Thus, the preponderance of current and former Yanquis and Mets.
For the record: I'm a Dodgers fan, and Eric Gagne was one of my favorite players. So to find out he juices/juiced was very disappointing. But hey, if it makes you feel better to think that this is all just some Vast Red Sox Conspiracy to smear the Yanquis, far be it for me to stop you.

Although i negelected to put a smiley, the conspiracy theory was meant entirely tongue in cheek. There had been a lot of talk prior to the release concerning the fact that Mitchell was a member of the Red Sox and whether there would be a conflict of interest. While I am a Yankee fan I do not think it was an attempt to smear them. Clemens did not surprise me especially if you look at the size of him while he was a Blue Jay compared to when he was a Yankee. Pettitte did surprise me, however, considering how close he is to Clemens I should not be surprised. Knoblauch should ask for his money back because not only did they not help him, they made it so he could not throw the ball to first base.
Now if Jeter had been named..........

The reasons are many and varied, I am sure. Some take them to help speed healing from injuries. Some take them to--of course--be able to blast the ball out of the park.
But the fact remains: Beisbol has become a dirty dirty sport because of its rules of "do whatever you want, as long as it doesn't involve betting on the sport, murder, or boffing little kids". Had the sources been in, say, Los Angeles and Minneapolis, I'm sure there would have been a preponderance of Dodgers, Angels, and Twins listed in that report. It's just sad.
