My wife and I started to watch this show last year (Big Brother 3). Any other lgc.com-ers watching it too? I have my favourites and Scott wasn't one of them (freak).

Michelle was voted out and DANA won the HOH. They re-visited Jason, Roddy, Danielle and another woman from last year, but I can't remember her name. That's about it in a nutshell.

Not both of them, but they did tell he that David voted against her.

If David had good sense..IMHO..he would have used the veto power and gotten rid of Dana...now she will be a thorn in everyone's side....

Michelle was the one X that I really liked...hate that she is gone..

I agree about David! I got my husband to watch the show for about 5 minutes last night and all he could talk about was how David looked like Clay Aiken (i guess it's the hair).

Doesn't it seem odd that WRAL will show BB, where we saw people in bed kissing & wearing lettuce bikinis, but they won't show Cupid?

Jarofan, you are being too polite - I think there was a lot more than "kissing" going on. ;)

Oh yes, but it does seem odd.

Not that I care for Big Brother and Cupid, or another show in their genre that I'm getting ready to mention, but I just had a couple of thoughts regarding WRAL's not showing Cupid...

One, maybe WRAL didn't realize or know that they would have a scene on Big Brother like the one mentioned here.

or...

Two, I can't help but wonder if not showing Cupid is WRAL's way of still pouting over Clay's "losing" (It's never like he really lost...he still has and will always have it made with all the money he's won/earned and has yet to earn.) on American Idol. Afterall, as most of us know, Simon Cowell, who is the host of Cupid, has a huge involvement on American Idol. Not to mention how WRAL is the only CBS affiliate in the US of A not showing Cupid, which was mentioned in the N&O. I would post the article, but you need a membership on the N&O's site to view it now. For those of you who watched American Idol, who did Simon seem a little more biased towards, Ruben or Clay?

If the second thought really is the case...that is incredibly petty of WRAL, and shows that they need to get over Clay "losing" and move on to greener pastures.

Is it just me, or does it seem like WRAL got over the Canes losing in last year's Cup Finals a little quicker than Clay "losing"?

WRAL's reason for not showing Cupid is that it "demeans the institution of Marriage". Big Brother doesn't involve people getting married, so, they'll show it (no matter how bad it gets). This was the same arguement made when CBC's other station didn't show Married by America.

Yes, but wouldn't you like to think that if that really was the case, another station or two would pull Cupid? I seem to recall hearing or reading somewhere that WRAZ wasn't the only station who pulled Temptation Island in its heyday.

But further regarding what you said, I wonder if WRAL would have pulled The Bachelor if it aired on CBS instead of ABC? WDTV certainly didn't/doesn't have any qualms about showing that... Not to mention Who Wants To Marry A Multi-Millionaire, didn't they show that on Fox here, or was that yanked?

BTW, welcome to the board E2. :)

Personally, and this is totally just my opinion, I think another reason WRAL would never pull BB is because it is so much more hyped on CBS; for example the morning show will have the evicted guests. I think they'd get a lot more flack about not showing that one.

Doesn't Cupid come on at 10 pm anyway? I can understand the point about maybe demeaning the institution of marriage, but have you seen how much BB has changed? You've got almost all young, single, attractive people there, save for one older guy. They are ASKING for hook-ups.

Are the people supposed to get married after Cupid?

Damn Jaro, your not making my case to become a contestant any easier. First CBS won't allow Canadians to take part, then my wife says she doesn't like the idea of me being away that long, and now you say they are asking for hook ups? DAMN

Well, I honestly don't know...but based on descriptions I've read at various sites when I was seeking the N&O article I mentioned in a previous post and seeing if it was elsewhere, Cupid is supposed to be a "dating game". None of the descriptions mentioned getting married, but instead made the show sound like a Blind Date clone with a hint of Love Connection. With that said, based on what little I've seen of him, I could envision Simon Cowell being a snide version of Chuck Woolery.

But, if those descriptions are true, and there is no marriage, I wonder where the heck WRAL got the "demeaning to marriage" idea from? Things that make you go hmmmm...

Which is why it's clear it has nothing to do with Clay Aiken/American Idol. They also pulled the Marry A Millionaire thing I think (or some other show) which aired long before Idol.

Don't know if anybody posted it but the two votes for Erica were from two of the three stooges Robert and Justin. Everybody else voted to evict Michelle. The third stooge, Jee, luckily could not vote. As far as favorites. Jack, Dave(although he is a little whacked) and Erica. Dana, Jun and the stooges make me want to vomit!!! Just my 2 cents worth

nccanes
07-25-2003, 11:00 AM
Funny JD - I kind of like the stooges, lol but NOT Dana. I guess it's just because they were at such a disadvantage coming in as the minority exes. I thought Jee was stupid to not put up two from the original 8, but I guess they don't really know that they are all together?

In a warped way I kind of like Jee and Jun. Jun is b*tchy, but she's very smart and I like her smart*ss (yet honest) comments.

I think that all bets are off now that Nathan used the veto and David was put up for eviction. The 2 sides are divided and Dana has positioned herself to be the next to get nominated. Whomever is put up against her should rest easy. Thoughts?

You know, I convince myself I hate this show (or did after the first one or two), but it's much more tolerable when watched via DVR. Between the recap at the beginning and the commercials and some other crap, I've got it down to about 30 mins.

Anyway, regrettably I actually seem to be enjoying this. Save me. ;) What else to watch in the summer!

Okay, now. Answer me this Aaryn. When you win the veto you protect yourself AND whomever you "save" (if you choose to)? Guess so, otherwise no one would ever use it, huh?

Nathan is a little pretty boy dumbass (imo), but I guess he was right that he and Ali  were low men on the totem pole in that group. Problem is, while they ridiculed Dana for switching sides, she at least has 4 new allies. Now he is an island with Ali. And she'll kick him off if she needs to.

I hope Justin wins HOH and puts up Ali and Nathan!

You are correct-ish nccanes. The one who wins the power of veto is immune from being put up if they use it, Nathan is a "little pretty boy dumbass" (doesn't Allie look like about 40 girls you have seen before?), and I still hope Dana gets her ass evicted, just don't like her.

Exactly Aaryn!! I saw Allison and thought "hasn't she been on SOME reality show before" or "do I know her". She seems so familiar. Even her psuedo-hoarse voice!

Anyway, I'm not a Dana fan, but for now I'm kind of rooting for the underdog exes and she's part of the key to their survival. I'm sure they'll do something to piss me off and I'll change my preference.

One of my other guilty pleasures is The Amazing Race. I hated Kelly and John, but that other team (the "virgins") pissed me off so bad that I turned on a dime and wanted them out, meaning I had to pull for the obnoxious duo of Kelly/John.

Kind of impressive that Nathan and Ali won the competitions that they set out too. The rest of the gang may have laughed at them for practicing, but obviously it paid off - perhaps some of them should have tried a little harder.

I imagine there will be no mystery about nominations, I'd expect her to put up Dana and Justin - unless she does something stupid to try and put Dana up against a "pawn" to ensure Dana getting the axe and it backfires.

Two things about BB last night that were classic. Ist and foremost was Dana and Justin's expressions after Alie won HOH. Dana looked like someone had just caught her with her hand in the cookie jar. It was priceless, and I believe she knows that she is done. Good Riddance MANTROLL!!!!!! The second thing is it was refreshing to have a person evicted and not have them boohoo like a blubbering idiot when talking to Julie. It is a game people, you act like you have been kicked out on the street to live a life of panhandling. Gimme a break.

Back on this topic again, I was watching CSI last night (which I love) and actually got disgusted because they showed the coroner cutting open someone's skull with a bone saw and peeling away the skin of his face. It was like I was watching the Discovery Channel or something. I really don't need to see something that graphic, unless i'm watching an R movie. But yet they won't show Cupid. I still don't get it.

The thing I thought was interesting is how po'd the rest of the "original alliance" was about who Ali nominated. She really did do the right thing - and she has the right to get rid of the person that was gunning for her. Are the original alliance people stupid enough to believe that they could woo Dana back into their graces if they got rid of Justin instead?

I can't imagine how psycho Dana has been between the veto thing and the voting.

See what you both must realize is that Dana would go the minute she is put up because everyone hates her even the Stooges. If you put Justin up and get rid of him because he is strong, then you have cut off the head of the Stooges and the other two you can manipulate in any way you see fit. Dana would be voted out no matter who she gets put up against even the turtles, so you save her for a time when one of the people you like might be vulnerable. IMHO

Perhaps you're right JD - and maybe that's what they were thinking and it was lost on the editing room floor. I did hear Jack saying something (pre-noms) about Dana possibly coming back to them to get rid of the rest of the exes. *That* would be foolish to believe.

OK, a moment of silence for Dana... OK, enough of that. Alison will be put up. I think she did nothing to endear herself last night with her post eveiction "I feel awful" speech, and I think she has made herself out to be quite 2 faced with all the flirting "due to strategy" and her messages home to her boyfriend. Nathan will most likely be put up with her IMO so that the remaining house guests will get him and Alison at odds trying to sway people. I am now pulling for Jack to win it all. I think he threw the HOH competition so he couldn't win, and continue his strategy of laying low. Friday should be fun.

Justin was eveicted by a vote of 3-1. Julie came on at the end of the show to let the houseguests know that the game will take a turn beginning tommorow (Thursday), which left the houseguests bewildered. She mentioned that she will reveal the twist on Saturday night. I'm thinking they will re-introduce one of the evicted houseguests, much like they did with Amy last year. My wife is saying she thinks Scott will be brought back. You may remember him as the psycho who was "removed" at the very beginning of Big Brother 4 because of his weird mood swings. Stay tuned.

Justin got the axe, 3-1. Jee asked if he could vote for Robert just out of respect for Justin so it wouldn't be unanimous.

It was interesting in the interview with Julie Chen, Justin was asked if he had any hard feelings that after his HoH week, that Robert left the cage so soon and Jee "cut a deal". Robert said "not at all" and that Jee had been made that offer about 10 minutes after Robert left the cage and he still stood there for 6 hours before finally leaving.

They did a nice piece on the 3 stooges showing each of them talking about how close they'd become and how important their friendships were. It was actually very sweet.

Jee won HoH. I hope that Jee puts up Alison, she purposely didn't win HoH (she admitted it in the diary room) because she presumes she's safe on both sides, but I guess the obvious "alliance" to break up is Jack and Erika.

Oh yeah, forgot about that part.

OMG Aaryn - if they do that with Scott . Going back to when he was pulled out. I know he had that hissy fit where he was throwing crap around, etc. but they didn't yank him then did they? It seemed like it was after his ex got nominated he was really ticked off and then just went into the diary room and never came back. I may have missed a show back then, so maybe I've got that wrong.

I, for one, like the fact that the remaining houseguests are very calm and not screaming at each other constantly, but I don't know if that's what the producers want. I wonder if it will be a new houseguest, or if they will do something that will make their lives more difficult (as Jun was wondering since Julie had said they were "comfortable" in the BB house).

It should be interesting. I think she said the HGs would find out today.

No, Scott told Amanda (his ex) he loved her and blah, blah, blah, and he just started throwing things and yelling at the cameras because he "hated the way he was in the house" and felt he was making himself vulnerable by trying to woo Amanda. He was asked to go to the diary room via the plasma screen, and then the houseguests were informed that Scott would not be coming back. Psycho.

Also, anyone have the inside scoop yet as to the "shakeup"?

I think it's because of the jury sequestering thing. I guess they figured that a family/friend would whisper something in their ear or something.

I think that version 3 was much better than the current BB4. This has become much more corporate (product shots and spots), and now JUN is at the MTV Music Awards? Come on! The twists were intriguing, but now they are a disappointment. Only a few weeks left and Jack (my pick) is gone. Oh well.

I think it was BB2 when one of the people in the house won a trip to the Emmy Awards.

I think they have to do something at this point in the house - we've all grown tired of them sitting around whispering. This group seems to get along pretty well, so they can't rely on conflict to really create any tension/drama (not that I like to watch people ***** at each other).

I have enjoyed seeing the jury house - it's amazing how much more likeable they all seem after they aren't competing against each other.

I thought it was funny that both times Jee was HoH, HIS choice of his two nominees wasn't the one voted out. And Jack was right - they should have gotten rid of Ali.

Anyone know what Erika whispered to Jack just before he left the house?

I don't get it. Why did Jun bother to nominate Ali when she's got the Veto? Was it just to mess with her head - or Robert's? She made the comment about wanting to be the one that dumps her ex (again). She has no guarantee that she'll do that. If it ends up Jee vs. Robert, Ali and Erika could dump Robert, if it's Jee vs. Erika, Ali and Robert could dump Erika. Jun seems like she wants to be the one to cast the tie-breaking vote, but things don't always work the way they are planned.

Alison removed herself from nomination and Jun put Robert up. Both Alison and Erika voted for Jee, so he got the boot.

They did a quiz about comments made from the people on the jury and Erika was winning by 1 until the final question and then missed it and Robert got it right.

Sad thing is the tie-breaker was writing down the number of hours they have been in the BB house so far. Erika did some quick math and came up with 1440 and Robert took a wild ass guess of 800. The correct answer was 1436, so even though Erika was off by only 6 hours, Robert won because he didn't go over.

I think they were making reference to the eveicted house guests in the Sequester House and they were talking about how Dana sounded like a man. If you remember, they were then talking about the scenery and how tanned everyone looked.

I am glad Robert won HOH, and hope this holds true to my wife's prediction. Before the HOH contest, she said "If Robert wins, it will set the girl's plan all out of whack."

Who are y'all voting for to get the phone call? I think Robert is the sentimental favourite to get it, but Erika might get it on the popular vote since Robert got the letter from his daughter already. However, that being said, I think Alison may be voted to get the call so we can all SEE her get told off by her boyfriend once and for all. Maybe viewers are a little bored with how well everyone is getting along and this would just be too funny to pass up.

Yup. I think Ali is sitting the best. I suspect he'll nom Jun/Erika and presuming neither of them wins veto, then Ali has control (again) by being the lone voter. Funny, in general BB is my least favorite of the main reality shows (but what else to watch in the summer). The Amazing Race is my favorite and Survivor after that. I like the challenges, and them trying to figure out how to live, etc. I hate the backbiting bickering and incessant use of the word "alliance" (in both BB and Survivor), but anytime there is voting involved that's what it boils down to.

That's why I liked the amazing race, simple elimination - last team to arrive each show was gone.

DAMN! First that piece of garbage Alison wins the final veto (GAG), and then she puts up Erika who she then votes off (ERR), and we are supposed to believe she is sincere with that little tear-laden performance after she made her choice?

So, now we have Robert, Jun and Alison  left. I'm going to be cheering for Robert. I hope he wins the HOH to guarantee himself a spot in the final 2, as I think he has the best chance to win against either of the 2 girls.

I finally watched my tape of Wed BB last night. So it's Jun and Ali.

So let's poll the jury - I think it will be a close one. I agree with Ali's presumption that Robert could have beaten either of them.

Nathan - Ali
Dana - Jun
Justin - ?
Jack - Ali?
Jee - Jun?
Erika - Jun?
Robert - Ali

I think Jack, Justin, Robert, and Jee might "respect" Ali's gamesmanship and vote for her.

It's really too hard to predict how people will react. Respect for "outplaying" them, or "po'd that she's caused my eviction"?

Too close to call.

I think it's a total crapshoot, but here's my theory.

Ali and Jun played a very similar game, but Ali was always the one to make the hard decisions in voting or nominating. Jun has always positioned herself into the right spot, but took the leap of faith that it wouldn't backfire AND she would never become the target (and obviously it worked to perfection). Now, will the people that try to judge on 'gamesmanship' go for Ali's overt style or Jun's covert style?

And I wanted to puke when Ali spewed out that farewell to Robert "...you have no flaws...". I think Robert is stupid enough to believe it. She obviously did that to sway his vote - and it could work. But kudos to Ali for including in her eviction speech that Rob told her he would convince everyone not to vote for her (the threat). The jury sees only the HoH comps, the nominations, and the evictions. Good that she was smart enough to head that off at the pass.

Finally, I think the difference between Ali and Jun is that Ali is just plain *****y and Jun is more calculated and clever in her *****iness. She makes me laugh more than Ali, so she gets my vote, lol.

I have to give out major props to all the members of the jury for putting those two weasels in their place. For someone who just won 500k poor Jun looked like she had been beat up when she realized what the other members thought of her. The mere fact that Ali did not win the money was enough but to see her put in her place also did my heart good. It was a far cry from the last two years when both Lisa and Will celebrated because although they had to lie to play the game, they had stayed away from personal attacks on the other houseguests. Now the only other hope i have is that Ali's boyfriend drops her like a bad habit. It would serve the bit*h right.

Well remember the HGs knew that the diary room stuff wouldn't be viewed until after the vote, so I think everyone let it fly in there. So the fact that the jury voted and THEN saw the tapes before the finale had them all smarting from the personal slams.

With the exception of Jack (and to a lesser extent Jee), they ALL slammed each other when given the opportunity (privately to another house guest or in the diary room). Erika was full of CRAP when she tried to say her slams of Dana were for strategy - she was in the freakin diary room.

Last year's finalists were two fairly passive people right? It would be like having Erika and Jack in the finals.

Justin pretty much summed it up when he said "I'd rather be stabbed in the front, than in the back". I also agree with Jack, that Jun was the smartest person in the game (along with him). She was constantly able to asess each houseguest perfectly and know their next move. She didn't back down from the fact that she rags on people to entertain herself.

And a little feminist aside, I think Jun was very smart to bring up the fact that Ali used flirtation and her body, etc. to advance herself in the game.
