So... the final score stuck at 5-1 for the U.S. Wooo! :usa:

In another game today --

Jonathan Bernier shut-out the Czech Republic, giving Canada their first win, 3-0. Steven Stamkos recorded an assist on all 3 goals. :canada:

Can a mod just rename this the WJC Thread?

Canada loses to Sweden, 4-3. It was on XM and I had to run an errand, wasn't really listening other than to hear the USA/Russia score. It was 1-0 when I went into Barnes and Noble and it was 3-2 Sweden when I emerged. Canada tied it up with a few minutes to go and now I see that Sweden won. Musta been an entertaining 3rd period. Apparently they lost in the final 30 seconds from a turnover. Ouch.

The USA beats Russia 3-2. Woo hoo. :usa:

Yay! That's awesome.

I'll have to stay away from this thread once we can get some games in the US. I doubt I'll watching from puck drop to final whistle, but it'll be fun to see/skim them unspoiled.

We were on our way home from various errands and listened to the entire third period and holy cow- what a game.

Our other #12- Brandon Sutter, took a penalty that got the Swedes on the board, and I thought to myself, wouldn't it be insane if Canada lost this game (it was only 2-1 at that point) Then things started to turn. It really was a wild game we finished the game in the house, but could barely get out of the car to run in and turn XM on in the house - lol . I had listened to parts of the Czech v Slovakia game that was on in the morning, but it was actually the TSN feed with Gord Miller & Pierre Maguire which is always entertaining- I just hate that we can't see these preliminary games! The Canada v SWE game was the Fan radio network and those guys are a little dramatic- not that Pierre Maguire isn't- but those two guys, holy cow.

Anyway- good to see the Americans win their 3rd- lookin' good boys.

I'm totally looking forward to the medal rounds on NHL network. I'm still not understanding why they can't show these preliminary rounds on NHL network. What a great opportunity to show off the future and these kids and this big ol tournament that everyone talks about and we have to hope our Americans do something in order to see on TV.

I completely agree with you about this. I'm willing to bet that it would be to expensive to get all of the US games just for the NHL Network but you would figure they could at least simulcast the TSN feeds of the Canadian games. I mean I'm willing to bet that we're going to be getting the TSN feed for the medal rounds, why not pick the earlier games up too.

We are getting the TSN feed for the medal rounds- they talked about it on XM - so it really makes no sense to not at least show all the games- TSN broadcast Czech v Slovakia today, so what would be the problem in feeding that to NHL network since they're affiliated? arggh the frustration.

A couple of exciting games today, it's a shame we haven't gotten to watch more of them.

Spoilers below.

Canada beat Finland 4-2 (3-2 +Empty Netter) I thought Canada looked pretty good and had a lot of great chances, a couple of odd bounces including the Fins scoring a goal from behind the net and the Canadians getting one in off of the Fins D mans stick.

Russia beat the Czechs 4-1 after a slow start (0-0 after one).

So the schedule on the 4th will be Sweden vs Russia at 10am and US vs Canada at 2pm which should be a great game.

Oh and guys I highly recommend sticking around and watching the player of the game presentations, well worth it. :smoke: hehe

you thought Canada looked good? Man ... if not for the Finns average-at-best goaltending, I think they were in trouble. Even in the end, up 3-2, they were playing way too wide open, IMO. I'd say USA is prolly the favorite heading into that one.

I was going to work from home tomorrow, but I think I'm gonna shift it to Friday and take the USA/Can game in live. :D

idk I thought they had some good chances, but I was only half paying attention so maybe not.

I agree the US is the favorite going in to Friday's game. It'll be interesting to see who Canada goes with in net.

best part about Finland's goalie? His name was Harri Sateri ... yes, it rhymes.

So it's Steve Mason for Canada. I'm surprised it's not Bernier

I have a good feeling for our American boys; Let's hope it's a real good one, I'm Tivoing it and real excited we can actually see the feed.

But ya'll know this just means so much to Canada, so while I'm as patriotic as they come; these tourneys, I have this pull to root for Canada- only because I think the whole process they put these kids through the try outs, the phone call to cut the kids when they don't make it "mean everything"; it's heartbreaking to see it- like when MAF let that goal in back in 2004 vs Team USA/Patrick O'Sullivan- it was almost like "don't come home with that silver". So anyway......

Go USA! (and Canada,lol) :usa:

**SPOILER**

Well - nothing to spoil yet. USA/CANADA 0-0 at 1 period.

James Duthie (TSN) said that in Kevyn Adams living room in Chicago there's a rivalry between KAdams, Wisniewski (USA) and Sopel and Toews (CAN) - all former World Jrs players (and all in IR for the Blackhawks).

A whole lot of nothing- unfortunately. We lost 4-2. :(

I spent the morning watching part of this on machines in the gym and then headed home and caught the rest- I found it funny in a wierd way that that loud little man (Pierre Maguire) made a point that for Canada it's gold or nothing- and that "the Americans seem to have that thought and they get beat and there hearts aren't in it for the bronze"

He has a point, but come on. They are kids, got it, but they were sleep walking. Very unfortunate, and wow- after all the chatter about Cheraponov (how many "ov's" in this tourney- Gord Miller did a great job keeping them straight!) when we went to the draft in CLB and him falling down to 17th for the Rags to snatch him, he's quite a player.

I'm enjoying having NHL Network provide the feed of TSN's wall to wall coverage on this- they showed this intro of current NHL stars (Neidermayer, gap-toothed fool & Joe Thornton) with their gold medals they won as junior players, and it was kind of like the same commercial that we all know and love, with Staal, Miller, etc. with the theme of bringing home the gold and what it means to Canada; and that right there validated my earlier statements and assertion on how much it means to Canada. They're all pros now, and you could hear the passion and emotion in their voices about winning gold for Canada.

That says it all for me. Good luck Canada- puck drops in an hour- we're Tivoing as there are errands to run and things to do!

Another great Game for Canada. The Swedes gave them a run for it for sure, but those boys knew what was at stake (2004 wasn't too long ago). I felt so bad for the Swedish goalie he would not get up off his stomach and was just in pieces as the Candians were going bonkers on the ice in celebration.

Just watching post game and the gold medal presentations, the kids singing boisterously during "Oh Canada" , after all that, I finally "get it". Why it matters so much. There had to be at least a few thousand Canadians in the building, and that ginormous Canadian flag!

I thought our Brandon Sutter was going to stay draped in the flag. He was too cute skating around the rink and doing the "woooo" and waving the gold medal around his neck. Tavares and Stampkos (sp?) seemed overwhelmed by the anthem (so teary arm in arm!) and what they helped accomplish. And I loved all the kissing of the helmets and the cheeks. So much passion.

Well done Canada. I would have devastated for them if they lost!:canada:
