Canucks, Coyotes swap defensemen

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (CP) - The Vancouver Canucks acquired big defenceman Martin Grenier from the Phoenix Coyotes on Friday in exchange for defenceman Bryan Helmer.
Grenier, a six-foot-five, 244-pound native of Laval, Que., spent most of last season with the AHL's Springfield Falcons, where he recorded two goals and 10 assists in 73 games. The 22-year-old was scoreless in three games with the Coyotes.
Last season, the six-foot-one, 200-pound Helmer played 60 games with the AHL's Manitoba Moose, recording seven goals and 24 assists with 82 penalty minutes.
The Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., native has played four seasons in the NHL with Phoenix, St. Louis and Vancouver, recording eight goals and 14 assists with 123 penalty minutes.
