I caught Tim Brando on 99.9 yesterday morning and he totally called this Vandy win. I thought it was pretty bold, but I know Brando knows his SEC (he used to be a "regular" sports caster for a Baton Rouge station about 20 years ago before going on to do regional and CBS stuff), but he was pretty sure of it.

Nice job Commodores!

I LOVE Memorial Gymnasium. It is such a definite home court advantage with the raised floor and the benches on the end. It throws opposing teams for such a loop. :D Since it seats 14,000 and the levels are stacked right on top of each other it definitely gets loud.

Can't you tell I only missed one home basketball game in my college career?!

Just when I was excited for Vandy you go and mess it up.:lol::p

I have always thought the floor was very different as well. The court is raised on all sides right? Steps down to the bench and the floor seats? or does it just look like that?

Congrats VandyCane!

The sides (where the benches are) are at the same level as the seats. The length of the court is raised several feet over the seats. The student section is right up at floor level so you can bang your hands on the floor all you want. Not that I ever did such a thing . Since you are so close the players and refs can really hear everything that is said. When I went to school the media was stuck way at the top of the arena. I was kind of annoyed when the media got moved courtside (underside?)--although hearing them whine all the time gets kind of funny.

Of course you didn't. :D I think all the students should be courtside.. forget about the stuffy sponsors/contributors that are thinking about anything but the game..and sit in their seats the entire game.

:-p that's what I'm here for!

Yeah, I don't dislike the arena, I just didn't know what the heck the deal was with the sidelines and the coaches being on opposite ends. My roommate did a little research and said that a few years ago, one coach complained about not being able to communicate with players on the far end during an NCAA tournament game, and so they don't host any of those anymore. Which is weak - I actually liked the look of the place once I got used to it.
