RALEIGH, N.C. – The Carolina Hurricanes’ Kids ‘N Community Foundation will play host on Saturday, Aug. 16 as The Cheesecake Factory celebrates the grand opening of its Raleigh location at Crabtree Valley Mall. The Foundation and The Cheesecake Factory have selected UNC Children’s Hospital as the sole beneficiary for the restaurant chain’s traditional charity event celebrating a location’s grand opening.

The public is invited to take part in the event that will include a sumptuous buffet of The Cheesecake Factory’s famous specialties, delicious appetizers and cheesecake, accompanied by live music. One hundred percent of all ticket sales to The Cheesecake Factory grand opening party will directly support the programs offered at UNC Children’s Hospital.

More than 40,000 children from all 100 North Carolina counties and surrounding states come to North Carolina Children’s Hospital for 128,000 visits for diagnosis and treatment. Nationally and internationally recognized physicians along with an outstanding nursing staff and other health care professionals provide high-quality care for children with complex diseases. Private gifts from individuals, plus grants and support from corporate and community friends like The Cheesecake Factory and the Carolina Hurricanes will help North Carolina Children’s Hospital continue to provide the children of North Carolina the very best quality care.

The Kids ‘N Community Foundation provides much needed funding to children’s charities and education programs throughout North Carolina. With ongoing support from players, annual special events and the corporate community, the Foundation has funded scholarship programs, youth hockey, educational and literacy efforts, children’s health programs, the arts and other children’s related initiatives. Annually, the Foundation provides cash and in-kind contributions totaling nearly $1 million to charitable and educational programs in North Carolina. The players, their families and the team’s staff are actively involved in community activities. The Hurricanes take great pride in the ability to have a positive impact in our state.

Wonder if they have any Atkins-friendly stuff? *ponder*

If they do, it'll be like 20 a slice and taste so fake (like all the Splenda in the regular Atkins stuff) Blah...

Bah. I've never had that problem with Splenda-sweetened stuff (which is certainly a damn sight better (IMO of course) than anything with nasty-ass Equal in it.)

raleighcanesfan

I can agree with that. Splenda just takes so fake (but duh, I guess it is to a point). I just miss good old fashion sugar...that's in cheesecake...

mmmmmm....cheesecake (in best Homer voice)

StormShaman

I miss it too--but then I remember how uber-crabby and out of sorts I was when I used to eat lots and lots of high-carb stuff, and I wind up missing it not so much. :)

(and now the thread has gone off-topic--yay us! :D)

You'd love to think there would be, since it's fifty dollars per person to attend...

I would imagine there would be a token one or two. It's a few weeks away - so I guess a few might be in town and available.

But it's a fundraiser and you're getting a big ol' buffet for your bucks too.

$50/pp for a charity event is cheap. I wouldn't expect anything other than the fantastic food that TCF provides. Though I'm sure there'll be a cane or two there... since their name is attached.

mmmmmm.....TCF. gooooood stuff.

I have never been to one before, but I love cheesecake. Is there such a thing as BAD cheesecake??? and when you add strawberries or blueberries..**Homer drool** :D

The best cheesecake I ever made was an Oreo cheesecake...it was fantastic!! Sorry kind of OT and now I am hungry! ;)

Guyute

it's not just cheesecake though. they have some STELLAR meals. only time I've been to one was a couple of years ago in LA...
but I'm damn glad they're putting one here :D

I believe this is what I had:
SHEILA’S BLACKENED CHICKEN PASTA
A Wonderful Cajun-Creole Pasta Tossed with Tomatoes, Red Onions,
Bell Peppers and Garlic. Topped with Spicy Blackened Chicken Breast

go look around (you thought you were hungry before!? lol)

and, of course, they do have the most Un-believe-able cheesecake. :D

but it goes to a good charity. great deal, imo. damn, now I'm hungry. lol

I still have your posters! I forgot again, I figure that I will get them to you this season. You can have as many as you want. Sorry again, but I have a mental block about mailing stuff for some reason. I actually had to refund about 6 people on E-Bay for something I was selling becasue I never mailed their items. It's weird, but I can't help it! :spin:

Actually, one the incentives that the mall gave to Cheesecake Factory to open there was their own special parking deck so parking shouldn't be that much of a problem. The biggest problem is that there is usually a two hour wait for a table and they don't have beepers to notify you when your table is ready.

That has been the problem with every single Cheesecake Factory I've ever been to. I can't wait to go.....but no matter when I go I'm betting there will be a wait.

I don't know if they take reservations, Mona. They have a great website (http://www.cheesecakefactory.com/) (but I warn you, you'll be starving after looking at it). Maybe it says something on there about reservations.

On the bright side maybe it will cut down the wait time at another of my favorites...PF Changs!

I just checked with them and they do not take reservations, it's a first come first served basis. If you want to eat, you wait for a table.

I just noticed that they do "to go" of everything on the menu. I work almost across the street from Crabtree so I think that I'll try calling in my order and picking it up for lunch just to see if the food is good enough for a 2 hour wait for a table. I haven't found many restaurants that are worth that long of a wait.

Gohllee, even with a two hours wait, the bar would be so crowded too, and you wouldnt even be able to see your cheesecake much less eat it by then (that might just been the old lush I used to be tho), I am sure you guys are much more controlled about drinking... :smoke: ;)

My thoughts about the Cheesecake Factory were that it might be a good place to try AFTER a Canes game (if you're just looking for a Cheesecake fix). Just straight down Edwards Mill.

We did a post-game "snack" at PF Changs one night and "only" had to wait 10 minutes at around 10:00pm.

But who knows, maybe there will still be a wait. So maybe it'll be a shorter wait for "to go" Cheesecake, lol.

And the parking deck isn't done (is it?), so I think you're looking at parking nightmare for now.
