Last night on ESPN they showed what happens behind the cameras. They had one screen showing the broadcast, they showed the producer, the producer's assistant (or something), and these other different people working the video, sound, information, and everything. It seemed almost chaotic, but they put together a great show. It really is an awesome look at just how hard the producer and his staff work in coordination. There is so much that needs to be done, and sometimes it will get done literally seconds before the show gets back on the air, and almost magically, the show always works out. It was really cool.

yeah, tommy, i saw it. i was even thinking about posting something on here myself, i was quite impressed.
as much as a few of the ESPN folks knock the Canes, i have to admit to being a big SportsCenter fan. the show actually started at 10 and had everything leading up to the countdown to the live broadcast at 11:00. the "pre-show" had bloopers, old clips, stuff about their famous ad campaign -- it was really quite good, and knowing ESPN, they will show it again. ;)
the behind-the-scenes stuff during the actual show was absolutely fascinating. if you've never seen what goes on behind the scenes at a live show like that, the work that goes into every little detail you see on the screen...and the timing! and it makes the anchor's job look hard as hell (at least to me). it was so neat to watch the split screens on ESPN (showing the director, the anchors, the producers, the control room), and then flip to ESPN2 where the actual live episode was being broadcast.
anyway, it was truly cool, esp. for a SportsCenter junkie like me. i highly recommend it if they show it again. :D

If anyone happens to know when they'll show that again, please post something. I'd love to see it. :spin:

Darn - I knew that was going to be on, but forgot.
I'd love to see the rebroadcast too!

There was a tv show a few years ago called Sports Night. It was a fictionalized view at SportsCenter by the same guy that does the West Wing. I know it is fiction but that was a great show. I kept expecting to see stuff like that on last night's ESPN show. You can get a DVD with the two seasons that it was on the air.

I've heard lots of good things about Sports Night...a lot of the people I have talked to about that said it was a shame that it went off so quick. I'll definitely try to find that DVD soon.
Also, I'd love to know when an encore presentation of the behind the scenes deal with SportsCenter is...my brother and I were planning to watch that last night, but he got caught up in his darned golf video game (Well, I really shouldn't call it darned...I have gotten quite good at Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2003 lately. If only I can beat that gangster dude for the fifth Tiger Challenge...) and wouldn't quit. Oh well...the show does sound quite interesting. Thanks for the description Tommy and Amanda. :)

Sports Night was the coolest! Seriously!
And I haven't heard anything about a re-broadcast yet, but I'll see if I can find anything, and I'll post if I hear about it.

I got the Sports Night DVDs from a friend as a gift. Haven't opened it yet though.
I enjoyed Sports Night, though it was kind of hit and miss. Obviously Sorkin hit his stride with The West Wing, but Sports Night had that same rapid fire dialogue.
