Awww, this is a shame.. what a perfect name it was for a Philly arena!
FU Center undergoes name change
Philly's house just won't be the same without that clever acronym for First Union Center.
PHILADELPHIA - The First Union Center, home of the Philadelphia 76ers and Philadelphia Flyers, will be called the Wachovia Center to reflect the name change in the financial institutions.
"As the owners and operators of the arenas, Comcast-Spectator is honoring the contract as it was agreed upon with the bank that the successor shall keep the naming rights of the facility," said Peter Luukko, president of Comcast-Spectator Ventures, which owns the 76ers and Flyers.
The First Union Spectrum, the former home of the Flyers and 76ers, will be called the Wachovia Spectrum. The Philadelphia Phantoms of the American Hockey League and Philadelphia Kixx of the Major Indoor Soccer League play at the Wachovia Spectrum.
