So the men's thread finally lured me in. I was afraid I'd get swallowed up by this thing like my lovely wife, so I was skittish about joining. But here I am, having already pissed the night away anyway.

Big Canes fan but not even nearly the biggest or most knowledgeable in my own house. If anyone knows the meaning of my user name, I'll be pleased and impressed.

Well Mr. SHC, I believe your tag refers to the late lead of the punk group Minutemen. Actually I rememeber a cousin telling me about the band (she lives in Phoenix) after I told her I was a big Revolutionary War junkie. Although I couldn't get big in the music, she had a couple records/tapes.

What do I win?

Yeah, a lot of people think the Minutemen's name comes from the brevity of their songs, but I think it's actually more from the Revolutionary War namesake. D. Boon was a real history buff, and filled with impressive left-wing righteous anger. He left us way too soon. Good to see some people know who he is.

Can't believe I never heard of him prior to my cousin mentioning the band. I think they were hq'ed out west somewhere, but if he was a Rev War person. I pretty much focus on New England/PA.

Only a few punk bands come close on leftist ranting, the Clash maybe one of them. They're based out of a little working-class place called San Pedro, actually, not too far from LA. One of their dads was a dockworker, I think, so they got their working-class hero status painfully and honestly, I'd imagine.
