Gods I loathe the Wings so much.

Well, all but one of them.

Why dont you put the goalie back in with 20 seconds to go on the faceoff right outside of the zone?

Am I the only person on the planet who thought maybe that puck crossed the line before the net came off the moorings? Did they even review it at all? Seemed damn close to me.

And then Detroit goes right down and scores.

FINALLY showing the overhead view and hell yes, that puck was over before the net was off.:mad::mad:

Poor PJ stock doesn't know a codfish from a catfish. Someone threw a pretty nice sized catfish on the ice in N'ville. Wonder where they stored that one on the way in!

Fantastic finish to this game - 2 incredible shots/goals just seconds apart to tie and then win the game. Sommett Center was incredibly loud, looked like they let the crowd take over (again) when DET took a late TO. They were talking about how the players couldn't hear the whistles in the final minute or so.

Hopefully Arnott didn't hurt himself when he flung himself into the glass and then got slammed by Radulov as he came down. Looked like he was really hurting.

So I guess that leaves the poor Sens with the sole 0-3 deficit.

Yeah Preds!

That was a great finish.

PJ Stock- tool/fool.

I delayed watching the Tivo of Dancing with the Stars to watch the finish. Great gutsy win. Things were so not lookin' good.

I sure hope Jason Arnott is ok- did he knock himself silly or did Radulov get him when he tackled him?

Arnott said in an interview with versus that "I've been hit pretty hard, but that was probably the hardest hit I've ever taken" and said he was a little foggy getting up.

nccanes
04-15-2008, 06:54 AM
Yeah, I think it was the timing of him coming down off the glass and then getting tackled. FWIW, if Vince Gill was there and sitting in the same seats as he was in Feb, the celebration would have been just in front of him.

And as an aside (not sure if we mentioned it when we went in Feb), but the seats on the glass at the ends and in the corners are elevated so that your feet are even with the top of the boards, but your butted up against the glass like regular glass seats (not a distance back or anything). I think it'd be really cool to sit there for a game.

Ok, this is really cheesy- but it makes me laugh everytime I watch a NSH game- that song they play when they score a goal- "I Like it, I love it, I want more of it".... Does anyone know if that is like the "Let's go Canes" song or is that sung by one of the country stars that are Preds fans? I'm not enough of a country music fan to know a distinct sound, but it makes me howl everytime when someone scores and that song comes on.

caneshockeychick

SoCal, that was a hit for Tim McGraw, yes, a country artist.

CHC- thanks! I actually have a few of his songs on my iPod, I just wasn't familiar with the origin of that song.

Oh, they panned the crowd after the Suter goal & I was flipping channels in NSH, and someone had a sign "Hillbilly's LOVE the Preds"

That was an awesome game. When Arnott scored the winner I cheered very loudly. You would have thought it was the Canes scoring

And for the one asking if Vince Gill was there, yes he was. Chris Simpson spoke to him during one of the break in plays.

Thanks 59!

I just read Paul McCann's blog (it'll put a lump in your throat reading about the fans) and he mentions this.

The National Anthem was beautifully sung by Vince Gill last night as he and his wife Amy Grant choose to be at Game 3 and not at the CMT Music Awards happening across town at Belmont University's Curb Center. Vince and Amy have been season ticket holders since day 1.

http://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog.php?post_id=14785

Someone should send the McCann blogs to Pete Soto. I hate it when the insipid music drowns out our crowd when it's actually making a lot of noise.

During the second TV timeout in the second period, the Preds found themselves down one goal but gaining some momentum. A cheer went up as the timeout began... and once again... like in the closing game of the regular season... the Sommet Center crowd would not stop. They just kept getting louder... willing their team on... sharing their heart... telling their team that they could do it and that there was 17,113 folks behind 'em.

Watching the benches during that timeout was fascinating... you saw the Nashville bench pickup, gain strength... you saw the Detroit bench look around and wonder what the heck was going on.

Dan Ellis on the 2nd Preds goal – “They were outstanding tonight (the fans). You listen to that building and you can’t hear a thing. You can’t hear whistles, you can’t hear guys communicating or anything. It was nothing but the fans giving us that little boost. They were outstanding tonight and it is the loudest building I’ve ever played in by far and that win goes straight to them as it does to us.”

Ryan Suter – “It was the loudest building I’ve every played in, and at the end of the game it was just as loud as it has ever been.”

Wow to the Gills- I'm pretty sure that the CMT Awards are pretty huge in their business- good for them for setting the example and turning out to root on their team! I love hearing that.

I can't say enough about Paul McCann. That dude is a tireless cheerleader (for lack of a better word) for that team in NSH, he provides so much information, insight and enthusiasm for the team, I don't know how anyone in Nashville could not be a fan of the Predators. Honestly, he's on XM all the time, he seems to have gigs everywhere and he truly loves this team and the fan base. It's really inspiring.

The noise levels in the building, as he said were pretty up there. I had a couple de ja vu's seeing that crowd get completely frenzied after the Suter kid scored and did it seem eerily like that Staal goal vs NJ when Arnott scored? :lol:it sure seemed like the roof was about to come off that building - the fans seem to really love Arnott or really felt for his scoring drought/struggles.

McCann's account of the TV timeout and the players talking about how loud it was- it's always said the players 'drown it out'. No they don't. they're humans. if you don't feel that crazed insanity, you don't have a pulse.

I found this interesting- I guess the DET players aren't used to having people in their building who are actually LOUD. Lots of empty seats in those two games in their rink.

you saw the Detroit bench look around and wonder what the heck was going on.

I'd LOVE to have N'ville in the East in our division and have the choice of a few games to go to. I'm holding out hope that with the new schedule format, the Canes will somehow end up in N'ville again next season. I'd love to go back.

SoCal the CMAs is a huge deal to all the country stars.. shows the dedication that Vince and Amy have to the Preds. Vince's voice is so beautiful.. I would love to hear him sing the anthem.

I wonder if the "hillbillies" made enough noise for good ol Chelios last night?:lol:

While the CMT Awards are pretty big in the business they are aimed towards a more youthful audience and I'm fairly certain Vince Gill wasn't nominated for anything. That being said it is still a big deal and it's cool to see his dedication to the team. (BTW Mona the CMA's are different from the CMT Awards which were last night)

"I like it, I love it" was a really big hit for Tim McGraw back around 95.

And I agree nccanes that it would be nice to have the Preds in the East. If one of the teams in the SE were to move I think it would make sense to move the Preds in to the SE. So with this new schedule we play every Western team either home or on the road plus a few teams we play twice right? I think it would be cool if they set-up a 'regional rivalry' sort of think and had us match up against them home and home every season.

I agree, a home and home with NSH would be awesome and it would be fun to have them in our division if it came to that. Shoot, we've had a couple good preseason games against them, so the real deal would be great. Plus, it is so fun in NSH, I gotta have an excuse to go.

Well, where have I been? Had no clue on Tim McGraw's hit- thanks for the info LT- I'm thinking I need to do a Tim McGraw playlist on my iPod... ;)

Yeah, the CMA awards are THE awards in country music (I don't think Vince would miss those for ANYTHING), but the CMT awards are a different kettle of fish. Vince is one of my favorite people ... does so much for charity, and is known as the nicest guy in the business. Thrilled to see he's a big hockey fan! :)

If we play Nashville there next year, we are going to the game plus "doing Nashville and the Grand Old Opry" as well at the same time, which we've never done.

VandyCane
04-15-2008, 12:03 PM
Vince is a big sports fan. He is a season ticket holder at Vanderbilt (basketball, at least) and of course he supports his alma mater, Belmont. I noticed that he made it to both the Vanderbilt and the Belmont games in the NCAAs , even though they played in different regionals! They always show him during televised Vandy games, dressed in black and gold and definitely watching the games intently and not just there to be seen.

caneshockeychick
04-15-2008, 12:10 PM
Yep, he's a huuuuuge sports nut!!!

Also, the CMT awards are similar to the MTV Video Awards as CMT is a Music Video channel for Country Music.

His last 4 disc set was awesome. He has one of the most beautiful voices out there.

Come to think of it Vince hosted the CMAs for the better part of a decade.

If we play Nashville there next year, we are going to the game plus "doing Nashville and the Grand Old Opry" as well at the same time, which we've never done.

I've been wanting to go see the Opry and the country music hall of fame as well. Hopefully the NHL scheduling people will plan the game accordingly.

The CMHOF is just a few steps away from the Sommet center. And IIRC, the Opry has it's winter schedule at the original, the Ryman, which is also just steps away from the Sommet. When I checked, it seemed like they only had shows on like Thurs-Sat, and of course the Canes game was on a Tuesday. The Ryman is open for tours though.

Guin could tell you anything you need to know as they stayed in N'ville for the extended weekend.

So I guess it's come to this...I'm looking forward to the release of the schedule.....again....only 3 months to go.

nccanes, thanks for the info on Nashville. We're retired, so if we go, we can stay a few days so it won't matter to us when the game is ... we'll just build the rest of our visit around it. :) (A benefit of being OLD!)

Vince is always doing something for somebody so it doesn't surprise me that he's doing the UNC concert free. He's one of those people who gives back all the time! Remember the year he gave either a Grammy or the biggest CMA award to a sick little girl, brought her up on stage (I believe), etc.? :)

NOW ...

I want the Predators to win, but this is playing out exactly like the last time the Wings and Predators met in the playoffs! Let's remember back to 2004.

Games 1 and 2: Detroit wins both with Legace in net. The Predators play hard.
Games 3 and 4: The series shifts to Nashville where Legace plays like crap and the Predators win both games.
Game 5: Goaltending change for Detroit to Cujo. Wings handily defeat Predators. Cujo plays great.
Game 6: I drive to Nasvhille to attend the game. It sucks. The Wings score two goals in the opening minutes of the game. Final score, 2-0. Predators never solve Cujo.

This year:

Games 1 and 2: Detroit wins both with Hasek in net. The Predators play hard.
Games 3 and 4: The series shifts to Nasvhille where Hasek plays like crap and the Predators win both games.
Game 5: Goaltending change to Osgood.

Wierd...

Far be it from me to defend the Detroit Red Wings and their fans, but has anyone actually taken a look at the economy in Michigan right now?

I think some things take on higher priorities than hockey tickets. It's kind of an unfair slap at people who might be lucky right now to even have a job.

Oh yes, Nashville did do themselves proud! Obviously, there is no need to move that team whatsoever! Great job by the Preds and their fans.

Forgive me if the comment was directed around the lack of atomsphere in Detroit. I thought it was about the lack of people in seats. I saw many empty seats at the Joe in the little I watched of that series. I saw a lot of lower level seats empty and couldn't help but think those ticket holders just couldn't afford the seats for the playoffs, and the team couldn't sell them at face value.

I also find it quite humorous that a particular poster finds it far easier to slam someone than understand documented historical evidence about New Jersey fans not attending Devil playoff games and unemployment pushing 8%, and underemployment at close to 25% in Michigan.

As for the attendance comments, they were only based upon what I observed watching the games over the entire season. But, I actually agree with this poster about the lack of atmospehere in the Joe.

As for not cutting them any slack, I certainly understand and remember the crap that was flung in our direction. If I didn't realize just how bad things were up there, I'd be right with y'all on slamming the Detroit fans. However, after a year of working on a Presidential campaign and getting reports on areas and issues affecting those areas, Michigan is hurting severely, worse than what you've probably read.

And those numbers in Newark are.....
Is it easier to ignore that?
A quick Google search tells me it was 12% in 2003. I'm not interested enough in this discussion to go beyond that.

I don't see a slam anywhere in my comment. You hate NJ because they're your team's rival. Excuse me if I find it hard to believe you're totally objective here. If it's a slam to point it out, well, sorry, but it's true. I doubt you've done the same research on the economy in New Jersey before you made those comments. Maybe I'm wrong.

And I'll state again, I was NOT REFERING TO THE ATTENDANCE IN DETROIT so don't lump me in there. I was referring to the slience. They seem to me to get more excited to see a dead sea creature thrown on the ice than they do to see their team play.

I apologize if we missed each other's point.

The figures for Newark in 2003 are irrelevant, because #1 - the Devils didn't play in Newark in '03, and #2 - if the Devils have more than 10 fans who would attend games and live in Newark it would be surprising.

I know you don't think I'm being objective because I'm a Ranger fan, but the truth is, THERE ARE NOT THAT MANY DEVIL FANS, PERIOD! The Devils have NEVER sold out their building(s) for playoff games. It has nothing to do with the economy in Jersey. It has to do with the fact there just aren't that many Devil fans.
