I want to alert you to a serious threat to this thread :eek2: . It seems that the high level of humidity that we've been experiencing is causing technical issues with hyena's camera. Going from the cold RecZone interior to the balmy air outside (the new exit path for the players is not optimal) fogged not only her outermost lens glass, but layers beneath - far beyond the hyena's reach.

It appears that the length of time for the moisture and humidity to equalize inside her camera is identical to the length of time to shower and dress for the Canes, so bedlam was avoided. Of course, there were some very tense moments. Whew. Rest easy gals.....and hope for drier weather. :laugh: :evil:

i didn't get one of erik....by the time i got my camera ready he was too far away -- he looked like he was in a hurry. i would say his hair is about an 3/4 of an inch, maybe....longer than O's was when he got his. i would say it looks better on him that it would on your average person... ;) but like i said, i'm a hair fan. :evil: i was pissed at the end of the season when bruno got his hair cut and his wasn't really long to begin with. :D

Yes I certainly did see it - I especially liked the part when he invited the camera crew back to his house to check out his "hyper-simulator" computer game, whatever that means. Everything that comes out of his mouth makes me cringe, but I still love him! :crazy:

Warning, I tell LONG stories! I put most of the story under the "Jimmy V" topic, but I figure I can be a little more squeely here. :angel: Everything I said before still applies, because that golf tournament and the V Foundation mean a lot to me. I just had a great weekend for other reasons too and I know you girls would understand! The bonus to this weekend is the time I got to spend on Sunday. The big news is that I carried the standard (those are the big green signs with the golfers' names on them) for Bates!!! :D When I was walking to the hole we started on, about 5 or 6 men stopped me and said, "Wow, my wife/girlfriend would love to be you right now!" Then, it started sinking in. You're really going to meet this guy! You see, I completely blew my first hello several months ago at the RecZone when I was taking learn to skate classes. On some weeks, the Hurricanes practiced before my class, so they were around signing autographs when my class was over. One day I ran into Bates and he smiled and said hello. The only thing I could do was smile. :D So, when I got to our first hole, I thought...just don't throw up on the poor guy's flip flops when he drives up and this day will be a success! :sick: I think it took me until the 2nd hole of the round to even talk to the guy, but I got it mostly together after that. I had a WONDERFUL day considering that I had been up since 4:00am and the round finished around 4:00pm. Bates was awesome with the fans!!! The best part was seeing kids come running up when they saw the standard and asking where Bates was. He was usually behind me stopping the whole way along the cart path to sign autographs and take pictures. He stayed until everyone got those taken care of. :D I knew batesb would be there somewhere, so I kept an eye out for her. Alicia, it was really great to finally meet you. Yes, I was as nervous as nervous could be with Bates, but that was the best way that Sunday could have gone for me for so many reasons!!! Your Bates is a real sweetheart! I'm so glad he supports these tournaments. I started volunteering 3 years ago as a way of paying back the comfort I got from part of Jimmy V's speech at the ESPYs. In 1996, my grandmother died after a short time with lunch cancer. She was like a 2nd mom to me, so I was devistated. I remembered some of the words from Jimmy V's speech: that if you think, laugh, and cry every day then you will have something special. That seemed like a way to get through the day and a terrible loss. I promised that if I ever got through losing my grandmother, that I would repay that kindness to the V Foundation. Five years later, I made good on that promise and the time has been more rewarding than I could have ever imagined. Last summer, I had to call on those words from Jimmy V again when my young cousin passed away from leukemia at 8 just before Labor Day. Because of the timing for the tournament and that inevidible "1 year" mark for Travis' death, I was a little apprehensive about this weekend. I made it through the junior classic earlier in the summer and that was a rough one. The good news is that being a volunteer helps me be a part of something that could help other families not deal with losing more loved ones to cancer and the ways you can support the fight end up being so much fun, you almost feel guilty for having such a good time. Then again, from everything I've heard about Coach V, he wouldn't have this raising money thing any other way but fun! My group was great and they always had each other laughing. That made me have a great time and get more of the laughing than thinking and crying. I got to that later, but the golf course wasn't the time or place!!! :D They played a pretty good round and used a lot of Bates' first shots. In this format, they all hit from the tee and then use the "best ball" shot for the next one. Yes, Bates did dance to some of the music like a silly white boy. He's also really funny. Some of it can't be repeated though! :eek2: :D My squeely girl moment came about 3 holes from the end when the guys were trying to go one more under par. The standards have the "score" on them for the team. Before Bates hit his 2nd shot, he came over, kissed his hand and touched it to the number!!! I think that grin on my face lasted for the rest of the day!!! :D :angel: :D At the end of the round, Bates came over to shake my hand and thank me for walking with their team. I said that I had a favor to ask. I didn't have a #44 jersey yet and since the Avs won't be in Raleigh this season, I asked if he'd sign a jersey at an away game. They are going to Pittsburgh which means I'm going home (and again cheering for the visiting team :crazy: ). He said that he'd absolutely sign the jersey...no problem. :angel: So girls, that was my day!!!
